The mayor of Orihuela, Carolina Gracia, is another politician who is demanding ‘urgent action’ from the Segura Hydrographic Confederation (CHS) with the clearing of reeds, debris and other obstructions from riverbeds and ravines as the region looks ahead to a period of meteorological instability.

Ángel Noguera, Councillor for Infrastructure, who was also at the meeting, reported that the cleaning of the sewerage network is being intensified.

Following neighbourhood complaints, he also urged the Orihuela Water Court, to clean up the Canal de Reguerón, which in 2019 flooded the district of Molins for six days.

The two parties agreed to sign an unerstanding that allows a more coordinated action between both administrations to reduce the risk of flooding. In Gracia's words, "it will allow some actions to be financed with aid from the confederation, in addition to defining which areas affect the confederation and which affect the City Council."

Indeed, just last week she travelled to the offices of Mario Urrea, the President of the CHS, where she met with the head at the institution's headquarters in Murcia, a gathering that was also attended by the deputy mayor of the municipality, José Aix.

Gracia added that "the City Council has already begun to carry out some cleaning work so that, if there is an episode of heavy rain, it does not catch us unprepared as it did before", in reference to the torrential rains that devastated the region on 12 and 13 September 2019.

The meeting was extremely cordial and although the mayor confirmed that there was no setting of deadlines or actions she did say that “we will know next week in which areas the work will be carried out with some setting of the priorities to be determined by the municipality.”

"We have predefined what is the responsibility of the confederation and what falls on the shoulders of the municipality, as well as what aspects we can work on together," said Aix, who has also called members of the public to be calm despite the possibility of a DANA: “There is nothing at this stage to indicate that we will see a DANA, he said.

The village mayor, Aynara Navarro, who was also present said that she had received three letters delivered to her home with threats, accusing her of not acting on this waterway, although it is not within her responsibility. Neighbors and different municipalities criticized in recent days a certain passivity on the part of the CHS, which finally began to clear the riverbed from Guardamar to Rojales, as well as the cleaning of the Rambla del Derramador as it passes through MeanwhileJacarilla. the PP councillor and former mayor, Emilio Bascuñana, stated at a press conference that "three years after DANA, everything remains the same, or worse, due to the passivity of the Consell and the Government. He said that in 2019 Orihuela suffered damage costing 550 million euros, much of which "has still not been rectified." At the same time that he spoke of the infrastructures that are still to be repaired, such as the channelling of the Rambla de Abanilla, the cleaning of the Segura riverbed, the extension of the Reguerón and the many bottlenecks in Orihuela and Rojales.

LOS PREPARATIONMAYORALCAZARESVISITSFLOODWORKS

The Mayor of Los Alcázares, Mario Pérez Cervera, has visited the completed works of the bypass of the D7 channel together with the president of the Segura Hydrographic Confederation, Mario Urrea, and the delegate of the government of the Region of Murcia, Pepe Vélez. The works began a year ago after the repeated request of the residents of Los Alcázares, and the Stop Floods platform, resulting in “One less black spot that Los Alcázares has to face future torrential rains,”expressed the mayor. During the visit, they have also been able to check the cleaning and clearing work that is being carried out on the D7 channel to minimise the risk of flooding and prevent a possible episode of heavy rains.

The Partido Popular has presented a motion that will be debated in plenary on Tuesday (tomorrow) to demand that the Generalitat render accounts of the actions carried out by the Vega Renhace Plan, President Ximo Puig's star project to reactivate the region following the episode of torrential rains in 2019.

Following the success of the Da Vinci equipment in the General Hospital, through its foundation and together with the University of Valencia, the first Chair in Robotic Surgery of the C. Valenciana was established in February 2021. In addition to these new robotic surgery devices, last July the tender was published, amounting to 3.8 million euros, for three new mobile electron accelerators for the treatment of patients with breast cancer through the technique of intraoperative radiotherapy, which will be installed in the Clinical Hospital of Valencia, the General Hospital of Elche and in the General Hospital of Castellón

The equipment is already being used at hospitals in the Community very successfully

The equipment will see "a great advance" since the Da Vinci robot allows minimally invasive surgeries to be performed, which enables a better and faster recovery of the patient. The Da Vinci robot can be used in surgical interventions in the specialties of Urology, Gynaecology, General Surgery and Traumatology that were normally already performed by keyhole surgery, without completely opening the patient and using only several small incisions and a camera to operate. The improvements that Da Vinci represents is that the tools used for the operation are robotic and controlled remotely by the surgeon. This has the advantage of increased precision and a greater range of motion as the robotic arms can rotate and move in ways that the surgical team cannot in a traditional operation. The equipment could even allow a surgeon to perform operations "from a distance" by operating the robotic arm console from anotherOtherlocation.advantages of minimally invasive surgeries, in addition to the reduction of the complications of each operation, will see shorter stays in the hospital, allowing greater availability and efficient management of healthcare resources. One such module will be purchased for a hospital in each province, but robotic surgery is already being used in Valencian public health. In May 2017 the first robot arrived in Valencia private healthcare with the purchase made by the IMED group. A few months later, the General Hospital of Valencia also began to offer this type of minimally invasive intervention thanks to a research project by its foundation.

Valencian public health is about to make a giant leap into robot-assisted surgery with the purchase three Da Vinci robotic surgery teams that will be installed, one per province, in the General Hospital of Castellón, the General Hospital of Alicante Doctor Balmis and the La Fe hospital in UntilValencia.now, this equipment had only been used in the General Hospital of Valencia where it was installed in 2017, and in several private hospitals such as IMED, Hospital La Salud or TheIVO.cost of the three robots is 9 million euros.

Through their initiative, they acquired a robotic platform "on trial" for an initial period of six months. In November 2017, the General's team performed the first intervention with the Da Vinci: prostate cancer. Two years later, and given the impact that robotic surgery had, the General Hospital of Valencia decided to acquire their own equipment, a Da Vinci dVX, the latest and most advanced of those on the market at the time.

The day of the ‘guzzler’ is gone. Smaller, more fuel-efficient cars are the future; with special emphasise of course on the electric car. But naturally enough, there is still a bit of ego involved in driving a new model car. Much has to do with the fact that Irish number plates loudly proclaim what age of car you are driving. In Canada, you hold onto the same numberplate every time you change your car. I suspect that if we had a similar system in Ireland, a lot less new cars would be sold!

Don’t Forget

Every new car showroom looks so inviting, which makes the thought of ‘changing’ so enticing. The latest gleaming models all lined up and the risk is high that if you drive onto the forecourt, ‘only asking, like’, you are done for! But if your present car is driving like new, why would you need to Ifchange?Ibought a new black car, all that would change is the number-plates and a lightening of my pocket. It’s hard to believe, but my best friend, Beemer, is now only worth about three grand. Just think of what a buyer would be getting for that price – and doing the same performance as a ‘222.’ All the built-in components, electronics, engine, steel, seats, glass, lamps, tools, radio, heater, wheels, tow-bar, wipermotor, mats … and all that for three grand …? New cars and new models hit the market constantly, which means that temptation is only the thickness of a showroom window away; but if you have an old black friend like mine, you might think twice of betraying her for a younger model!

In a nutshell, I drive an old black car which like myself, looks as good as new after a bit of a wash. The instruments are simple to understand and it drives along beautifully. Turn off the radio and you wouldn’t hear a rattle or a knock anywhere. We just glide along as if floating on air and she purrs like a kitten. You wouldn’t know you were moving – so much so, that I am the new owner of three penalty points! (Watch yourself near Tullamore hospital!) Road insurance on a ‘banger’ is lower than if the car was worth say another fifty grand. There is much less risk of an old car being stolen and the fear of getting a scratch or dent is non-existent. Not only that, but when it does get the odd little scratch, I just give her time and I swear it gets better by itself!

The car I currently drive is fourteen years old. When it was 2, 3 and 4 years old, I only taxed it for six months at a time, whilst I contemplated changing it. Now I pay the road-tax for a full year, because old ‘Beemer’ and I have bonded into a close-knit relationship which will remain until either one of us gives up!

Bignonia capreolata - common names Crossvine, Cross Vine Trumpet Flower, a self-clinging, evergreen vine - plays all the right tunes! With leaves glossy green, in cooler climates they take on a reddish-purple colour, with orange, yellow and red flowers. Atropical looking plant that climbs using tendrils to wrap around stems or bark for support, as it grows up tall objects like fences or pine trees. It will grow in many soil types, preferably well drained, it tolerates a wide variety of conditions, including coastal settings.

Having said all of the above; if you deserve a new car and the pleasure that goes with it: If you have earned it and want to treat yourself: If you are like Oscar Wilde and can ‘resist everything except temptation’…. well, then go for it. Tell Jim I sent you …!

Jim Bourke is a fan of YCBS, but he won’t like this one; and chances are he won’t be calling Bridie to read it either! Bourkes are in the business of selling cars, which they do very well - including shifting a lot of new cars. This week we are going to make a case for not buying a new car. Take me for example, (ah Lads … Lads, please, this has nothing to do with that …!) I purchased my first car in 1963 and my first new car in 1973. From ’73 until 2008, I changed to a new car every one to three years. What a waste of money! Money that was often a scarce commodity and could have been put to better use. I would regularly meet cars on the road that I had traded in one or two cars back. As soon as I thought about a new car … I was gone! There is a certain intoxication in the feel and smell of a new gluaisteán, but is it worth it ‘the morning Iafter?’know a wise and wealthy Scotsman who did things differently. What Sam did all his life was to buy a top of the range new car and then drive it until it was about to give up. Even old cars don’t do breakdowns on the road anymore – something which was very different ‘back in the day.’

During the evening they will hope to collect further signatures as the developer seeks approval from the Orihuela City Council, for a resumption of the work that was paralysed in And2007.with that final approval on the horizon, and as Gomiendo seem confident of restarting building work before the end of the year, this could be one of the very last protest rallies where there is any likelihood of effecting a change to the government’s position.

SALVEMOS CALA MOSCA SEEKING YOUR SUPPORT WITH EU BOUND PETI TION

The land was found to accommodate at least two endangered and protected species: la jarilla cabeza de gato and el caracol tudorella mauretanica (the cat-headed jarilla and the tudorella mauretanica snail).

This could be one of the very final opportunities for Salvemos Cala Mosca to influence the Ayuntamiento decision

Cambiemos, one of the political parties that is propping up the current coalition council, is also demanding explanations from the government team, especially from the political leadership of the Department of Urban Planning, which they describe as fickle and inconsistent They have already warned the PSOE and Ciudadanos that the construction on this stretch of the coast is a red line that endangers the agreement that brought the coalition into Now,power.in one final show of defiance, Salvemos Cala Mosca has obtained permission from the Government Sub delegation to hold a demonstration against the development next Saturday, the 10th September at 7:30 p.m. on the Cala de la Mosca promenade.

The association Salvemos Cala Mosca is continuing with its ‘dogged’ campaign to gather signatures objecting to the construction of 2,200 homes by the developer Gomiendo on the last undeveloped kilometre of the Orihuela coast. In 2010, CLARO and other groups that already opposed building on the land, collected over 7,000 signatures, which, at the time forced the postponement of the work, pending an environmental study.

Now, completely saturated by far more properties than it’s feeble infrastructure can support, residents and visitors with second homes in the area, continue to criticise the historical deficit of public services, as well as the precarious state of the roads, deficiencies in the sanitation network and in the refuse collection services, security and parks. The sewerage system can barely meet the needs of the current population, as can be seen all too often with spillages onto local roads and the embarassing closure of ‘blue flag’ beaches. It is hardly surprising that the objections continue to be so widespread and so vocal.

Armed Robbery at JewelleryTorreviejaStore

On Wednesday evening, a man wearing a cap and mask, carrying two large bags, entered the Joyería Hernández jewellery store, located on calle María Parodi in Torrevieja, and pulled a gun on the manager Marta Hernández and her employee, ordering them to open the drawers where the jewellery is displayed. The employee recognised the man, who apparently had come to the jewellery store a few days earlier accompanied by his Thepartner.thief, who had already emptied a large part of the chests of drawers, fled at full speed down Calle Pedro Lorca upon learning that he had been recognised. Customers from nearby businesses came out in pursuit of him trying to stop the vehicle in which he was fleeing by placing containers, which he dodged, although in one of the collisions the number plate of the car was knocked off. An investigation is now underway. The store became famous during Christmas of last year when it won the Torrevieja window dressing competition.

The local archaeologist, MarÌa GarcÌa Samper subseqently inspected the area in search of and further new finds.

Alead stock belonging to a Roman anchor was found off Pilar de la Horadada and will be deposited in the Archaeological Museum of the municipality, where cleaning and desalination will be carried out. Like the cannon, the discovery was made by a local resident, who informed the municipal archaeology service so that they could take charge of the discovery.

Well - if I thought the agent was odd, the English notary was …well, incredible! As it was early August and my wife and I wanted to complete the purchase to go out for a holiday on the bank holiday weekend at the end of the month, ‘Mr ‘ sent us the papers to sign and return. Apparently both we, and the UK sellers (also fromYorkshire, as it ‘appened), signed in the wrong Inplaces.order to get the job done in time, we actually had to meet the notary in person on Bedford station of all places, and sign in his presence in the buffet. We met this strange pin-stripedsuited city-type character on the platform and went into the buffet to a table. To say he and my (now ex) wife clashed in personalities was an understatement. Within seconds she said, as usual, exactly what she thought, which was that she thought ‘all this’ was ridiculous, with an elaborate wave of her arm. He took off his half glasses, folded them up and put them down on top of the papers.

I went with Bill to buy the materials and the next morning he started, while we went to the beach. We came back three hours later to find Bill slouched on the front patio, glaring at me. He jerked a thumb toward next door and announced, a tad triumphantly, I thought: ‘You’ve got big trouble! Spanish ‘ere have just come from Madrid, and she’s gone beserk! The police ‘ave bin and they wanna see you!’ With this helpful information he got in his car and went, leaving me to face a lot of aggravation, both domestically internally, and externally via next door - and the Ignoringlaw.

The funny thing was that when you opened this back door, you were about three feet above ground level, due to the slope of the land. The agent had assured me the property came with written planning permission for a full rear patio, and when I completed the purchase back in the UK, a sheaf of Spanish official looking stamped papers were supplied, on the local Town Hall headed paper. I assumed this was the perNomissionone was next door at the time of our holiday, and we had a lovely relaxed time for the first week. Naturally I wanted to get the patio done, and after asking around ended up

Spain 'breached' political rights of formerly jailed independence leaders: UN The United Nations' Human Rights Committee has stated that Spain "violated" the political rights of four formerly jailed leaders, convicted for their roles in organizing the 2017 referendum on independence despite Spain's ban. The report also says that the govt should not have removed the officials from office and stripped them of duties before convicting them.

with a rough – ‘diamond’ is a bit strong – handyman from London, called Bill. I explained what I wanted, nothing elaborate, just three stone steps down from the door, and slabs covering the nine square metres of open ground, to be able to sit out to take advantage of the south facing rear aspect.

The casa was a terraced property, next to the end one which faced alternately to mine, my back was his front, and viceversa. From my front position the land sloped gradually away down to the back of the property, the front being about a metre higher than the back. The galleria at the back had been converted into another room, with an outside door.

To be continued ....…

We made it Spain on time and took over our new property.

‘You think all – what – is ridiculous?’ he demanded, and imitated her elaborate wave. I managed to calm it down, and we all signed. Driving home from Bedford was lively...

the first problem, I went round the back to face the music. Bill’s dire description was spot on, as I walked into a barrage of Spanish abuse from a very small, fierce-looking older lady, plus a small Spanish gathering of onlookers, all murmuring, either nodding or shaking heads, pointing – it all wasn’t looking good.

Bravely ignoring serious internal queries, I went back out to the lynch mob, cockily brandishing my ‘permission’. He examined all the papers one by one carefully, and then shook his head slowly. He pointed out various sentences, which of course meant nothing to me, pointing to date stamps on the papers, which were about a year old. It began to dawn on me that all was not well, perhaps I had been sold a pup. Oh yes, it turned out to be REFUSAL of planning permission!

The next minute two young policeman arrived – Godzilla, the poisoned Spanish dwarf raised her pitch and speed of delivery, giving it hooray to the more senior-looking of the two policemen. He attempted to stop her with little success, attempting meanwhile to speak to me in polite Spanish to indicate that, as some building had started, did I have planning permission? I realised what he wanted and I assured him that I had: he indicated to me to go and get it.

In 1995 I arrived in Spain for a holiday plus a bit of house-hunting, staying in a friend’s apartment. By the time I left two weeks later I had found my dream house, but only on the last day and not without problems. I had been shown different houses by different agents, but I also had a sheaf of faxed copies of similar properties sent earlier whilst in the UK. One in particular had taken my eye, but it was a bad copy and I couldn’t find the property. At the last minute I discovered it, and eventually found someone who had a key who showed me round it – perfect! I headed home, as the casa was being sold by a UK agent, who turned out to be an off-hand Yorkshireman. We eventually agreed the price, he assured me I had a bargain, and it certainly seemed that way to me as it included all the decent furniture: internally it was first-class. He then surprised me by telling me I could do all the necessary administration and payment in the UK, via an English notary, which was news to me. I had been reading up on the seemibly-complicated Spanish way of buying and was determined not to let anyone ‘get the better of me’ as per the horror stories.

In statements to journalists, the mayor of

Elche,Carlos González, said that Elche will "always" claim the return of the Iberian bust to "the city where it was sculpted and found" 125 years ago now. He went on to say, that with the departure of the Vuelta Ciclista from Elche, the aim is to "project to the world" the heritage values ??of the city,"and say that we are the city of the Lady and we consider it’s placement in Madrid as only temporary".

ELCHE DEMANDS RETURN OF THE LADY AT START OF LA VUELTA TIME TRIAL

During the start of the tenth stage of the Vuelta Ciclista a España, the mayor of Elche has demanded the return of the bust of the Lady of Elche to its city of origin as currently it remains in the National Archaeological Museum (MAN) of Madrid. A large bust of the Lady presided over the Altamira Palace,in the historic centre, from where the individual time trial of the Vuelta Ciclista started last Tuesday, travelling from Elche itself to the city of Alicante.

The mayor also highlighted the joy from the emotional and sporting point of view of hosting the time trial because Elche is today "world capital of cycling". He said that beyond the social and economic impact of the Vuelta, the departure from Elche provides "national and international visibility",a showcase,he said, for the promotion of the Meanwhile, incity. the time trial itself,Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) took the stage win he was looking for with an impressive performance in the individual time trial from Elche to Alicante. At 55.7km/h,the Belgian star dominated everyone, including Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma),2nd on the day with a gap of 48’’ after 30.9km.

So, it is hot! We are hearing all sorts of stories of how records are being broken. Someone has even said it is 116 years since ‘something’ happened. We have just passed into our twenty third year of living in Spain, staying in the one house in the same village. It was August two thousand when we moved to this stunning part of the World. We were privileged when we first arrived in this charming country to see the end of what we were told at the time was a fouryear drought.

MOTORING:

The Mayor explained that the predictions of a possible DANA in the Mediterranean during the month of September, and the GVA prevention campaigns "have seen us activate all available resources to ensure that we are on alert for a rapid Heresponse."further stated that all official information on such incidents would be published on the Council's social networks and website.

On Wednesday, Mayor José María Pérez Sánchez held a preventive meeting of the CECOPAL (Municipal Operational Coordination Centre) where he met with all the technicians and municipal services involved, in addition to the cleaning, water, emergency, Civil Protection and Local Police to update the #DANA2022 prevention and protection plan.

The Council, after some time, managed to have all the frontal signs removed from the shop and replaced with blank black glass.

And yet we did build with approval, we took the grass up turf by turf and built his gym underground with a tunnel leading to it from the house.

Vega Baja fears a new DANA as Pilar de la Horadada prepares for floods

THE TATTOO MAN The Town Council in Hanham in East Bristol were disturbed. Exactly opposite a junior school a Tattoo Shop had opened, we are talking the mid-eighties. The shop also sold bondage and sexual items, some of which were displayed in its windows, along with a large sign advertising the inking business.

The Council has subsequently issued a statement addressed to the entire community, especially to farmers, in which it requests their collaboration to alleviate the adverse weather effects that could occur in the municipality, urging them to maintain the areas of crops and greenhouses free of material that could hinder the passage of water, as well as removing plastics, materials or waste from roads in order to avoid blockages that prevent the normal run off of rainwater.

The heavens broke open just a few months later in that October when a frightening ‘Gota Fria’ came tumbling down from the North, severe in its intensity, with continuous lightning strikes, strong winds and rain. It went on for two days.

On the very day following a severe crash, when a test BMW car in Germany with selfdriving abilities, moved into the traffic on the opposite side of the carriageway, causing a head on crash and carnage with many vehicles in a massive collision, and killing eight people, the United Kingdom have agreed that type of vehicle can be used on the country’s roads as from 2023, and cars with full self-driving abilities will be allowed on the roads two years later. Then it will be possible to hurtle down the motorway at seventy miles an hour reading the newspaper or watching TV.

For several days the municipal services and other companies, including public street cleaning services and water and sanitation services, have been working on cleaning gutters, scuppers and any means providing a passage of water to facilitate its flow and avoid stagnation, and during the meeting the participants reviewed the critical points against the risk of floods.

The Local Police will ensure that the information is passed to farmers and supervise their compliance with the provisions of the request.

Flooding of the AP7 tunnel at Pilar de la Horadada in September 2019

It was a welcome sight and people stood in wonder looking at the water rushing down gullies, whilst those on the coast, who had mistakenly made camp or parked their vehicles in the dry water ravines, were washed out to sea by the volume of water gushing down from the mountains. Is it really any different now from previous years when temperature readings were logged down? I don’t think so! This warm weather we are constantly told, is because of global warming - but looking at it logically, it was in the sixteenth century when scientists first played with the idea of using a thermometer type instrument to measure temperature, however it was not until 1848 when a recognised standard scale was introduced, which means, before that time, any history of a renowned measuring of heat cannot be possible or comparable. Therefore, we know very little about weather patterns before then, going back thousands of years. Even after the introduction of a standard scale, records are questionable, recorded at separate locations by individuals on instruments we know very little of, as to their Itcorrectness.wasnotuntil the overview of the satellite system of the last twenty years, that we found any accuracy. My view, it is not possible to compare the history of weather patterns!

QUESTIONABLE READINGS

As we move into September, torrential rains become increasingly possible causing Pilar de la Horadada Town Hall to increase it’s preparations for inclement weather.

In a debate the members were concerned about the bad influence on the children, as they would pass this shop on their way to and from school. Although as Chairman I declined to be involved, as I would have a conflict of interest, as the owner had instructed me to design a man type cave/gym at his house.

I had a different problem, his house was detached, old and a listed building with a huge garage to one side which would originally have accommodated a large carriage with room for the horses.

DANCING GIRLS: During the period of the War the ‘Tiller Girls’ (1889 -2011) danced at various venues throughout the land to help in the cheering up of the population, which was under terrible strain. Later they appeared regularly on television – who remembers ‘Saturday Night at the London Palladium’? They continued dancing, some into their fifties and sixties and older, for charitable events, until 2011. Times and attitudes move on, and I read that such events are seen as demeaning to women with their high kicking routine. Unlike tattoos which are seen everywhere - such shows are a rarity because they are seen by some, as belittling of the female form, and yet we see from day to day, semi naked adult females going about their daily business showing more than the Tiller Girls ever did, as if that does not lower standards. At the same time the NHS has decided in its ‘woke’ management that ladies do not exist as they are ‘people who bleed with chest milk’. So, there we have it, the younger generation think dancing girls lower their esteem but dressing revealingly and poorly in the street doesn’t, anyway, as we are supposed to be all equal there is no such thing as a www.facebook.com/percyfemale. chattey - author

To the rear, overlooking a valley, a beautiful, tailored lawn, where he wanted the project to go. The planning officer when approached about the scheme smiled and shook his head, so there was no way were we going to build.

I did not think it was necessary, but the building inspector insisted on a fire exit, so I added it so it could not be seen, to please the planning officer, I brought it up, so it exited through the garage. We then replaced the grass turf by turf.

The valley was brown in colour due to the lack of rain with the trees looking sad, their branches sagging towards the ground as if trying to seek out additional water.

TREVOR IMMELMAN's International team will be hoping for something like a miracle when The Presidents Cup (22nd-25th Sept) is held at Quail Hollow Club, Charlotte, Nth. Carolina and they come up against the USA team of Davis Love III. Since the USAhave won every match since 2003, and Gary Player's International team could only manage a tie on that occasion, there is some excuse for America feeing cocky. In 2019 Tiger Woods captained the U.S. in Melbourne when they beat Ernie Els' team 16-14.

Whilst Real Madrid made history in the summer by sealing their 14th European Cup/Champions League triumph, there can be no dispute that English Premier League clubs have had a hold on the Champions League over the past couple of Liverpoolseasons.fought off Tottenham in the 2019 final to clinch their 6th Champions League trophy, with Manchester City reaching the last 8 in 2020 before going on to be beaten by Chelsea in the final in 2021.

The winner was Ian Hamilton and the runner up Lynne Armitage, well done to both. Thank you to Diane and John for organising another successful and enjoyable competition.

The English Premier League continues to be the most sought after competition for players and managers alike, due to the competitive nature of the league and that appears to be rubbing off across the continent too.

Manchester City are the reigning Premier League champions and they once again look to be the team to beat in 2022/23, especially after acquiring the services of Erling Haaland.

It was Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool who made the final once again in 2022 and they, along with Chelsea and Manchester City, were perceived by many to be rather unfortunate in their defeats to Real Madrid this term.

The Champions League however remains the trophy that is still elusive to Pep Guardiola’s side and how they would love to rectify that this year.

As it stands, City are the favourites to lift the trophy in Istanbul next May but as we see every season, absolutely anything can happen.

Liverpool have endured a slow start in the Premier League by their very high standards but they can never be written off in any competition, this is also confirmed by the current odds.

FRIDAY SUNSET LEAGUE

Spurs complete the list of Premier League sides playing in the Champions League this term and how Antonio Conte would love to end their trophy drought with the big one. Their run to the 2019 Champions League final was ultimately in vain but Spurs are a high quality outfit, who never know when they are beaten and they could sneak under the radar this Awayterm. from the Premier League, all eyes will once again be on the defending Champions League winners Real Madrid, who defied all expectations last season to life the title. The footballing Gods were clearly on their side in 2022 and Carlo Ancelotti’s side is packed with experience and young talent, a potent recipe for success Elsewhere, generally. Paris Saint Germain will be looking to break their Champions League duck, following another summer of elaborate expense and 2020 winners Bayern Munich will be hoping to build on the monotony of winning the Bundesliga every season and win yet another UEFA Champions League title. Neither, of course can we write off Barcelona, particularly in view of their financial windfall Whether it be an English Premier League side or a team from mainland Europe, 2022/23 promises to be another incredible season of Champions League football.

Their defeat to Real Madrid in the final last May will still be a sore point for the reds faithful and how they would love to go all the way and win the competition in Chelsea2023.lastlifted the trophy back in 2021 and Thomas Tuchel has forged a reputation as one of the best cup managers in the world. But the blues are another team that has struggled in the early part of the Premier League season.

A big thank you to team Captain Sheila Roberts and Vice Captain Ian Hamilton. It was it was good to be back with competitive bowling once again, we can now look forward to the winter leagues.

Saudi Arabia - Colombia

As expected, the game became somewhat heated, so much so that Rosquin was the next man in the brand-new blue & white strip to see yellow. A rare strike on goal from Berni, produced a save at the foot of the post on 67 mins, as the hosts were going hell for leather to produce the all important 2nd goal. But, and there's always a but, the unexpected happened on 83 mins.A deep left wing cross to the far post, required Amine to produce a superb save from a firm Ivan header, only for Gomed to stab home the rebound. So, the 10 men of Carrus had earned what looked like being an unlikely point, which could have been 3 had the cross bar not come to Thader's rescue on 88 Havingmins.said that, the drama was far from over, for following another Thader booking, when Jony spoke out of turn, substitute Calderon was denied what seemed a nailedon penalty for a blatant push in the box during stoppage time.

DISAPPOINTING

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation has once again chosen Pinatar Arena to prepare for the World Cup in Qatar that will begin in less than 3 monthsítime.

Rafal on October 2 in another derby fixture.

Raul Mora has not only recruited wisely, but has also been able to retain the services of key players within the squad. So, an opening day visit of Carrus Ilicitana to Moi Gomez stadium shouldn't have presented too many problems, especially as the Elche based team finished in 11th place last season. But, having strengthened their squad, Carrus will certainly be no push overs this season. With Quino unavailable through work commitments, and Javi serving the first of a 6match ban for a post-match incident at Patacona, other squad players were given a chance to shine. It took until the 16th min before either side had a shot on goal, which befell to Thader's Rulo, forcing a fine low save from Miguel in the visitor's goal.An early injury to veteran Ruben, saw Juanlu take his place in Thader's midfield.A nasty looking foul by Dori on Rosquin, resulting in a booking for the Carrus defender, which would later prove costly.
