LOS ANGELES (AP)-A mysterious object will fly near Earth next month, and scientists don't know if it's a new type of asteroid or a 20-yearold Apollo rocket that shot past the moon and is now coming home.

The object, which measures one yard to 11 yards wide, is one of the smallest asteroids ever discovered, an astronomer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena said.

Whatever it is, it will fly within 290,000 miles of Earth at about 2 a.m. or 3 a.m. PST on Dec. 5, but is not expected to hit the Earth or the moon.
