In a move to make the Queenstown Lakes a more food resilient community, Wao Aotearoa and the QLDC have launched an online survey to assess the strengths and weaknesses in our local food systems. The results from this survey will contribute to the creation of a district-wide Local Food Network, which will enable action and new initiatives to help our district become more food resilient.

Food resilience is the ability to continue to feed ourselves in the face of disruptive shocks or stresses that our system might face.

The project is championed by food resilience and food systems sustainability expert Julia Blackford.

”The good news is, we don’t live on Mars - the soil beneath our feet can be fertile, and there’s plenty we can do. But we need everybody’s help. The first step is to find out where we are at, as a community, and exactly what holes we have in our food system.” Julie says. The survey only takes two minutes to complete and helps build the roadmap to increase the region’s ability to feed the community in the future.

Whether you buy all your groceries or you are an avid gardener, if you live locally, your input is needed.
