Interesting to note his sire, Royal Impact was bred here, by Cry Havoc x New Dimensions. According to our records this is his third litter whelped here, following one with five dogs and two bitches x Leelicious in November 2016, and a one bitch litter x Dyna Dara, whelped in February 2017. Paul’s litter of four dogs and five bitches are from the well bred bitch, Awesome Amber (February 2012 Cosmic Rumble x Awesomeness), whose dam is by Bond x Dana Esme (Firefly Boy x Runaway Tiger). She is from a litter of ten named, which included Black Ferrari, Charlie Brown, Cosmic Cru, Cowabunga, Double Six, Loose Connection, Papalii, Super Simbi and Telatah Gold. Their dam also has a litter of five named on file, whelped in January 201, by Spring Gun, who all won races, and a November 2013 litter by Bye Bye Bucks. Awesome Amber was lightly raced, with just eight starts, for three wins, two over 520 metres at Nowra (30.38) and the other over 520 metres at Wentworth Park (30.09). Awesome Amber has one previous litter on file, whelped in October 2014, by Outa Credit, with three named, Alderley And Out, Awesome Credit and Dark As Hell.

History Special Anyone remember Coursing at Tynong? Tynong & District Coursing Club Heather Arnold harnold@dcsi.net.au A meeting was held in late August 1941 to form the Tynong & District Coursing Club. The President was Peter Gleeson and the Secretary was Ernest Oram. Peter Gleeson was a farmer at Tynong and Ernest Oram was the storekeeper at Tynong I am unfamiliar with grey hound racing, but apparently a Coursing Club conducts plumpton meetings where two greyhounds compete on a straight track and are released from a set of slips instead of a starting box. In the March of 1942 the newly formed club was allocated the rights to conduct the classic coursing events – the Derby and the Oaks. The report in The Argus, said that the Tynong Club has practically completed the building of a magnificent enclosure on a site distant a mile from the town. The course was on the Gleeson property on the Eleven Mile Road, near the corner of the Nine Mile Road (the Tynong-Cora Lynn Road) near where Gleeson Road adjoins the Eleven Mile Road, today. The opening meeting was held on May 16, 1942. The events included an All aged stakes, two Bitch Puppy stakes, two Dog Puppy stakes and a Maiden stake. The All Aged stake was won by Palm Grove, owned by Rupert Colliver, a neighbour of the Gleesons. Various other meetings were held in 1942, including the Derby in July and the President’s Cup meeting in August. The prize for this event was a Cup plus £25, a fairly substantial prize, the equivalent of about one month’s wages. The Club also raised money for the Red Cross and by October 1942 had raised £200. In 1943, the Tynong Club won the right to host the Waterloo Cup. The first Waterloo Cup was conducted in 1873 and the event is still being held, and is held regularly at the Lang Lang Coursing track, on a rotation system with other coursing clubs in the state. The 1943 event took place over two Saturdays on July 31 and August 7. It was won by Keep Elert, defeating Air Flash, and the prize was £250 pounds, plus a Cup. There are reports about races throughout the 1940s and the Tynong Club appears to have grown in status fairly quickly, in fact it was reported in the Gippsland Times of September 19, 1946 that the Sale Club aims to take some Tynong glory and get a classic such as the St Ledger, Oaks, Derby or the blue ribbon event of plumpton coursing, the Waterloo Cup. It failed to get the Waterloo Cup as Tynong hosted it again in 1947 and also in 1954. The 1954, the Cup was won by Byamee, who is in the Greyhound Hall of Fame for winning the event from 1953 to 1955.
An article in The Argus of February 17, 1954 talked about grey hound racing in general and the fact the Victorian Government was legislating to bring in ‘tin hare racing’. I presume that previous to this, live hares were used as the lure. There had been reports in various papers on Trove http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper about community groups conducting ‘hare drives’ and bagging hares to be sent to the Tynong Coursing Club. The article also said that grey hound racing was at the cross roads and in the doldrums and that it had been unwise to change the venue of classics, such as the Waterloo Cup, and hold it in places that had insufficient accommodation ...or accommodation unfit to house a greyhound, let alone humans. I don’t know if that referred to Tynong, but it was a fairly isolated course, with the nearest accommodation being the Garfield, Nar Nar Goon or Pakenham Hotels. In June 1955, Mr M. A. Cunningham, the treasurer of the Club, collected the major prize money for his four entries at the Tynong Club meeting. In fact, one of his dogs, Belabek, left the crowd flabbergasted, when it won by 12 lengths. The last line in the article was ‘Fielders [bookmakers] said it was one of the worst days they had seen this season’. The Tynong Coursing Club was still going in May 1956, but Dad thinks it didn’t go on for much longer after that. By Heather Arnold, on behalf of the Koo‐Wee‐Rup Swamp Historical Society. The Koo‐Wee‐Rup Swamp Historical Society meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm at Mallow house in Rossiter Road, corner of Henry Street. New members welcome. The Museum is generally open the second and fourth Sundays from 1.30pm until 4.30pm or by appointment. Heather
Photos Both, Heather and Greyhound Weekly editor, Roger Clark and keenly seeking any photos of the Coursing Track at Tynong. In fact we welcome any old greyhound photos you might have stashed away in a cupboard somewhere. Much of our precious history has been lost, and we will endeavor to share here as many memories of days gone by as we can. With all editions of Greyhound Weekly being retained on our website we are hoping it will remain there ‘forever’ as an important part of greyhound racing’s long and proud history. Next week we will have another Historical Feature, related to coursing as well, ‘Remember Jack Baines’.

Coursing SA Coursing Results—Sunday 25 June VADIM ROZ RETURNS TO COURSING Our small band of intrepid coursers returned for yet another good meeting with Vadim Roz providing 3 winners on the day, Kath Johnstone having two, and Ray Fewings and Sharyn Gray providing the others. There were some fast times for the day after the southerly started in on the afternoon session, surprising what a difference a strong tail wind makes. Trevor came to visit for the day and it appears it will be a while before he is able to return to lure driving, so our thanks and appreciation continues to be expressed to John LePoidevin who has assisted the club in this matter. Please note that there has been an increase in the track being left in a rather “pooey” condition. This is not in the agreement you signed when you purchased your key – please clean up after your dogs. Takes a few minutes and will not result in you losing the rights to free gallop. Our next race meeting is scheduled for 9 July. I hope that you have all renewed your membership. Points are counted from when you renew. Our fields are displayed on the GRSA website and I would suggest that you take note of the location of the fields for future reference. More than 500 people attended the recent Greyhound Adoption Day, held at The Meadows greyhound racing club. It was a double adoption day, with a morning session and an afternoon session. With 80 greyhounds on show, there were twice the usual number of dogs looking for their forever home. Sixty-three greyhounds were adopted on the day, bringing the number of dogs adopted this financial year to almost 1300, well above the Greyhound Adoption Program’s anticipated target of 1000 adoptions for 2016 -17. Not all of the greyhounds at the event were adopted on the day, but GAP Adoption Manager Larissa Darragh said she was confident that the dogs that made the ride back to the GAP headquarters at Seymour would be adopted soon. Libby Morris and Tom Thompsett were among those who walked out the door with a greyhound. Libby and Tom, who live in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick, are part of a growing number of inner-city apartment dwellers who are choosing to take a greyhound into their home. Libby said they had been thinking about getting a dog for some time but, with their busy work schedules, they were looking for a dog that would be happy to spend the day in their apartment on his own, before going for a relaxing walk at the end of the day. Fab the three-year -old greyhound fit the bill. “I love dogs, we always had dogs at home and I think greyhounds are beautiful. I wanted a dog that is calm and affectionate, one that likes a cuddle,” Libby said. It’s always adoption day at the GAP headquarters in Seymour, which is open from Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4pm. Saturday by appointment. To see the greyhounds that are available for adoption, visit:

NOW AVAILABLE FOR STUD DUTIES
Our weekly selection of greyhounds to follow, based on their breeding and recent performances. MISS THURSDAY Black bitch, March 2015, Barcia Bale x Mrs. Thursday, raced by Nicholas De La Roche and trained at Lara by Jason Sharp. Placed in all four starts, all over 515 metres at Sandown (SAP) on consecutive Sundays from 4 June, from boxes three, four, twice and six, so hasn’t had much luck in that respect. Beaten six lengths in the most recent run on 25 June, in the race won by Dyna Fabrice (29.96) but is on the improve and not far off breaking through. PREMIER ZED Black Dog, April 2015, Premier Fantasy x Cairnlea Elle, raced by the South Pole Syndicate and trained at Woodford by Jackson Bell. Raced 14 times now for nine placings and has been a model of consistency. Three seconds over 450 metres at Warrnambool then 525 metres at The Meadows, before last start third over 515 metres at Sandown (SAP) on 25 June, from box five in the race won by Dyna Gavin (30.36). 515 metres maiden heats at Sandown are a tough ask for any youngster and this pup’s consistency should see him break through before too long.

Our People Marg Long GRV Hall of Fame
“Margaret oversaw the whole operation at The Meadows; from buying the land to the opening meeting. We built the place from scratch and we had very limited funds, so she did a very good job with the finances. “I think Margaret’s best quality is that she’s brutally honest. She calls a spade a spade and she doesn’t take any rubbish from anyone. She is hard but fair with the staff and I think the longevity of the staff at The Meadows is testament to the respect they have for Margaret.” From humble beginnings The Meadows has gone from strength to strength under Marg’s guidance, with the circuit now host to nine Group 1 events, highlighted by the jewel in the crown, the Topgun, and the lucrative Australian Cup Carnival.
Category: Administration Notable achievements: - Manager, Traralgon Greyhound Racing Club - Manager, Geelong Greyhound Racing Club - General Manager, Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association (Olympic Park & The Meadows) . Hall Of Fame inductee Marg Long has been synonymous with The Meadows’ rise to become one of Australia’s and indeed the world’s most successful greyhound racing venues. After cutting her administrative teeth at Traralgon and Geelong in the 1980s and ’90s, Marg assumed control of the Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association at a pivotal juncture in its history, overseeing the move from Olympic Park and the development of The Meadows, which opened in February 1999. “Margaret has been terrific for us over the last 20 years,” said long-time MGRA Chairman, Eddie Caruana.
“I don’t think even Margaret knew at that time The Meadows was going to grow into the success it has,” MGRA Director, Terry Davis said. “Margaret’s success in regards to The Meadows has been the birth of the nine Group 1 races. “The Australian Cup Carnival, with the Zoom Top, Rookie Rebel and Temlee, plus the Topgun and Hume Cup have all been successful due to Margaret’s relationships, not only with our sponsors but certainly with all patrons at the track. “She has given the Hume Council and ourselves a great partnership, she’s enjoyed bringing young people into the industry and she’s enjoyed employing young people in the industry. “She is a strong-willed woman, she’s very strong in the boardroom and all our directors respect Margaret.
“To see The Meadows grow into a leading Australian “She was there for the ‘Last Bark in the Park’, our final greyhound track has certainly been Margaret’s greatest meeting at Olympic Park in 1996, and there were some moment in the industry.” very difficult times while we raced at Sandown before we eventually decided on the location of The Meadows. http://www.grv.org.au/hall-of-fame/ Everyone thought we were crazy but it ended up being a very good move.
