Greyhound Weekly Victoria’s only independent greyhound publication Volume 1
Number 50
Friday 15 September 2017
Nominations now open for Ready 2 Race Greyhound Sales Do you own a greyhound that was born in Victoria between 1st July 2015 and 30th June 2016 that you are thinking about selling? There are sure to be plenty of cashed-up bidders at GRV’s 2017 Ready 2 Race Greyhound Sales in November. Buyers invested a total of $355,600 at the 2016 R2R Greyhound Sales – an average of $4,284 among the 83 greyhounds sold. And with fewer greyhounds in the specified age bracket this time around compared to previous years, bidding is expected to be more competitive than ever. Walter Love, who purchased Lucky Love for a Ready 2 Race record $31,000 at last year’s event, says owning a race dog brings an
exhilarating experience that buyers are prepared to pay good money for. “The anticipation of knowing your greyhound is about to race makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck,” Love said. “If your dog is leading in a race or is close to the lead it brings you overwhelming emotion. I’ll definitely be back to buy another greyhound this year and I have spoken to a few buyers from last year who have told me they’ll also be back to buy another dog.” Lucky Love has won seven races and more than $18,000 in prize money from 24 starts so far, including victory in the $7,250 MidYear Ready 2 Race Bonus event for the top eight prize money earners from the 2016 sales.
The 2017 Ready 2 Race Greyhound Sales will again be held at Lords Raceway in Bendigo, with GRV to market to local sporting clubs about the excitement of greyhound ownership and the expectations and responsibilities that come with it.

WATCH THE WASP STINGS OPPOSITION IN BOB PAYNE By Jeff Collerson GRNSW Website for GCA
The Dean Swain-trained Watch The Wasp ($12) took advantage of a good start to take out the Group 2 Bob Payne Spring Sprint (520m) at Wentworth Park on Saturday night. Starting from box two, Watch The Wasp jumped better than usual to be fourth at the first turn before rushing into second position leaving the back straight. But at that point Watch The Wasp was still several lengths behind tearaway leader Up Hill Jill, who seemed to be about to break through for her first NSW group victory in her fifth final. However, Watch The Wasp virtually sprouted wings in the home straight to win the feature by just over a length from Up Hill Jill ($2.70) in 29.99, with favourite Mister Twister ($2.30), who had been inconvenienced at the first turn, a distant third. “I wasn't too popular at home when I drew box two for Watch The Wasp and box six for our other finalist, Techno, because he wanted them drawn the other way around,” Swain’s wife, Danielle, said after the race. “But Watch The Wasp handled the inside draw well and although Robert Jones, his owner, is overseas at present, he will be over the moon to win a Group 2 race.” The win was owner Robert Jones’ first at group level, and is remarkable given Watch The Wasp is the first venture into greyhound ownership for the well known thoroughbred owner.
For Up Hill Jill, it was the third time she has finished second in a group race at Wentworth Park. David Geall, Up Hill Jill's trainer, was disappointed at how easily Watch The Wasp overhauled his greyhound. “I was thinking of bringing her back to NSW for the up-coming Dapto Megastar but I'm having second thoughts, maybe all the travelling is taking its toll of Up Hill Jill.” Watch The Wasp is a Black dog whelped January 2015 by Shakey Jackey from Midnight News (Bombastic Shiraz x Midnight Movie). He is raced by Robert Jones and trained by Dean Swain from Vineyard in New South Wales. Watch The Wasp has raced 17 times for eight wins and six placings with his win in the Spring Sprint the $40,000 first prize took his current stake earnings to $95,050. After the placed runners the field finished in the following order Techno ($31), Flying Mikayla ($31), Little Nangar ($10), Bekin Street ($9) and Chevy King ($13). First run in 1964 the Winter Stake is a time honoured GBOTA feature sprint event. It was sponsored for many years commencing in the early 80’s by Bradshaw’s Waste one of Greyhound racings major contributors during that period. The company shared a long affiliation with former GBOTA Chairman of eight years (1978-1985) Bob Payne and following his retirement from that position Bradshaw’s requested the Winter Stake be named after Payne to commemorate his massive contribution to Greyhound racing in New South Wales and in particular the GBOTA, he had first joined as a member in 1943. The feature race has remained named in his honour and is now held as a memorial following Bob Payne’s passing 13 years ago. listed below is the honour roll.

News from our country tracks Healesville Cup finish
ZINZAN BROOKE WINS HEALESVILLE CUP
Local groups join celebrations for official opening of $800,000 upgraded Horsham BEAUTIFULLY bred sprinter Zinzan Brooke (January Greyhound Racing Track 2014 Knocka Norris x All Fired Up), whose dam is by Gable Lafourche* x Bankers Blitz (Just The Best x Summer Blitz), won his second Group final, in last Sunday’s Group 3 Healesville Cup. Starting $2.70 favourite, from box two, he beat probably the best Healesville Cup field ever assembled, Stopping the clock at 18.88. $4.70 second favourite, Aston Dee Bee, finished 0.93 lengths from the winner, with Burn Like Fire, who was next in line in the betting at $5.40 finishing third, just behind the first two, in fact there was less than five lengths between the first six runners, and less than eight lengths from first to last. Raced by Wayne Thomson and trained at Lara , by Brooke Ennis, Zinzan Brooke is from a very good litter which includes, Back To Business, Fired Up Again, Funky Town, Judicial Man, Knocka On Fire, Missionary Man and South Bridge, 63 races between them to date. Zinzan Brooke has raced 35 times now, for 25 wins and three placings, with stake earnings of $137,189. Judicial Man has won 22 of his 36 starts, with stake earnings of $78,372. He also won the Group 2 Shepparton Cup earlier this year, and was a finalist in the Group 2 Ballarat Cup, Group Warrnambool Cup, and Group 2 Bendigo. He has PB winning times of 29.79 at The Meadows, 29.94 at Sandown, 24.92 at Shepparton, 19.30 at Capalaba, 25.11 at Ipswich, 25.28 at Ballarat, 23.50 at Bendigo and 24.97 at Warrnambool. With 25 wins from 35 starts to date, and not three years of age until January he has plenty more wins in him, and looks a likely type, and has the pedigree, for a future stud career.
Horsham’s redeveloped greyhound racing track showcases design features that put greyhound safety first, Greyhound Racing Victoria CEO Alan Clayton said today. Mr Clayton said GRV was working with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) to develop innovations that would improve track safety in Victoria. There has been significant national interest in these innovative developments, he said. “Good track design is important for the greyhounds’ safety. By reducing major risk factors we reduce the chance for incidents and interference so dogs can race more safely,” he said. “At Horsham, every aspect of this redevelopment has a science overlay to it, with animal welfare as the overriding priority.” In addition to the $800,000 project, upgrades totalling $400,000 have been carried out at the track as part of GRV’s five-year capital works program. The 43-year-old track was closed last October to bring it up to an appropriate standard. Using GRV data, UTS modelling pinpointed the hot spots for dogs on the old track, identifying potential causes for interference and crowding. Racing resumed on 1 August, with racing now conducted over 410m and 485m. A 675m start may be introduced later. The Mayor of Horsham Rural City Council Cr Pam Clarke will officially open the track at a ceremony on Tuesday afternoon which has been combined with the annual TAB Great Chase Community Day for local disability organisations. The majority of the work was carried out by local contractors including civil construction, electricians, irrigation experts, builders and fencing contractors, providing valuable jobs and investment for the local community.

Accell Therapy Accell Therapy is gaining popularity in greyhound recovery and performance, however many people do not realise the benefits of utilising this therapy with their breeding animals. Firstly though, a little bit of information maybe beneficial in explaining how the therapy works and the benefits in using it with your breeding stock.Accell therapy is Australian owned and Australian made by CT Healthcare in Brisbane. It has a long history in human therapy spanning over 67 years. The therapy is used extensively in the older generations of our population for joint mobility, muscle issues and circulation problems. It is also widely used by major sporting clubs, Australian army, Australian Institute of sport and many more. This therapy has been tested and registered by the TGA as a Class 2a medical device. The benefits of this therapy include improving circulation and lymphatic drainage, relaxing muscles and improving nerve muscle communication, and Enhancing joint mobility and enabling a natural analgesic effect. This cycling vibration therapy travels very gently and very deeply through 4 feet of bone and 2 to 3 feet of tissue. This enables a very deeply penetrative benefit to all cells through muscles and joints to receive these benefits. This creates momentum in the bloodflow which does not peak until approximately 5 to 8 hours post treatment, giving ongoing benefits well after the therapy session has been completed. Once it has peaked, the benefits will slowly drop back over the following 24 to 48 hours so regular daily sessions are most beneficial. There are many benefits in relation to breeding that can be gained from using AccellTherapy. When a bitch is cycling the benefits of increasing the circulation and lymphatic drainage enhance the natural efficiency of all systems in the body and thereby improving hormone levels and regularity in cycling and all facets of the reproductive system function. We have found that many bitches that are proving difficult becoming pregnant, suddenly become more balanced and able to be impregnated. And additional benefit that is derived from the body working more efficiently and having higher levels of oxygen and nutrients supply through greater blood flow, is the health and well-being of the beach during the pregnancy term. Her ability to feed the foetus during the pregnancy is greatly improved her to her higher levels of health and well-being, making the gestation much more supported by her body. These benefits flow

through to the quality of the milk the bitch produces, to feed after whelping. Anxiety can be an issue leading up to whelping and the Tranquillsage setting on the therapy can be very calming at this time. It lowers the alpha rhythms in the brain to resting levels, thereby calming the bitch naturally. In the event of an Cesarean section being necessary, Accell therapy can be used to generate faster recovery times for the bitch and improve internal circulation and thereby internal warmth of the pups. This reduces the reliance upon heat mats for pups. The Tranquillsage setting can also be used for the ongoing recovery of the bitch whilst feeding to keep her calm and relaxed during this time. We all know how much benefit a calm mother is for raising young. However, it's not all about the girls. You can look after your dog using Accell also The same benefits from improving circulation and lymphatic drainage, flows through to sperm motility and quality from enhanced health and well-being and improved nutrients and oxygen levels. Any muscle soreness or back issues that the dog makes experience during mating can be alleviated and recovered using the therapy to best effect There is a wonderful opportunity to improve the overall quality of your breeding program using this Australian made therapy and dogs can be treated using a therapy mat without needing to sit with each animal during treatment. Due to the depth of therapy penetration through 4 feet of bone and 2 feet of tissue, simply placing a crate on top of the mat will allow transmission of the therapy through this structure to the dog. It works a bit like a conductor. This lets you get on with your jobs while your dog is receiving premium care. It also protects your medical equipment from a chewer or any damage. I offer free consultations to discuss your specific needs so please do not hesitate to contact me for an appointment Leanne Masters-Accell Therapy National Development Manager
