Three litters - 3 different sires THIS week’s review of litters selected from the Victorian Litter Registrations list for the week ending 3 January, starts with three litters registered by Heathcote breeder, Raymond Henness, by three different sires. His first litter has six pups by the well bred, little used sire, Allen Deed (December 2011 Jarvis Bale x Greta Bale), whose dam is by Where’s Pedro x Gold Rush Bale (Lansley Bale x Jindara Bale) and worth recalling, Jindara Bale is by Grove Whisper* x Star Lee). The four dogs and two bitches in the litter are from the beautifully bred bitch, Scarlet Maid (March 2010 Paddy’s Flame x Ice Dancer), whose dam is by Spiral Nikita* x Herron Quay (Black Shiraz x Many Tricks). She is from a litter of eight named, who all won races, with her being the most successful, with 13 wins and 22 placings, from her 78 starts. She won five races over 525 metres at The Meadows (30.21), twice over 515 metres at Sandown (29.45), where she also won twice over 595 metres
EIGHT pups in Raymond’s second litter, by the beautifully bred, young stud prospect, Cutting Edge (October 2013 Barcia Bale x Chasin The Dream*), whose imported dam is by the under-rated, Lonesome Cry* x Dreamy Blossom (Maryville Rumble x Valoris). The six dogs and two bitches in the litter, are from the very well bred bitch, It’s A Wrap (January 2013 Yo My Mediator* x Jet Lag Wrap), whose dam is by Bombastic Shiraz x Zarbo (Bright Ebony x Gold Serenade). She is from a litter of nine named, with four winners from the seve who raced, including her two wins and three placings, from just 19 starts, with wins over 440 metres at Geelong (22.92) and 425 metres at Bendigo (24.10). She already has winners on file, from the five named offspring in her first litter, whelped in October 2015, by My Bro Fabio, then she whelped a litter of four dogs and three bitches, by Allen Deed in May 2016. Unfortunately just the one bitch pup in Raymond’s third litter, by Buck Fever (December 2009 Brett Lee x Kiacatoo Pearl), from the beautifully bred bitch, Phryne (December 2012 Fabregas x Glamorous), whose top producing dam, is by Spiral Nikita* x Leprechaun Yap (Hotshot x Leprechaun Miss). I hope she gets to sleep on the bottom of your bed, Raymond, she would is she was at my house.
Banjo Boy litter HUNTLY breeder, Lynette Anstee, has a nice litter of seven pups on the list this week, by Banjo Boy (April 2011 Vee Man Vane x Off Springer). The four dogs and three bitches, are from the very well bred bitch, Hawkeen (March 2011 Hallucinate x Senza Nome), whose dam is by Southern Champ* x Lucky Penna (Light Of Fire x Paris Match). She is from a litter of five named, which included Latte Lady, Lizzy’s Castle, Robanca and Spock. She raced 43 times, for five wins and 12 placings, winning all five times over 425 metres at Bendigo (24.11) in fact she never raced anywhere but Bendigo. Nicely bred litter, Lynette, as it is worth noting that Southern Champ* is by Phantom Flash x Wise Flyer (HB’s Commander x Wise Memory). Her sire line back through Brett Lee x Elusive Rebel makes the litter even more interesting, so good luck with these well bred youngsters.

Not too many litters by him come through these days, but I have always regarded him very highly as a sire and generally I think he’s been under-rated. Cassandra James, from Woodleigh, registered the litter on behalf of the James Family Syndicate , who always seem to have a well bred litter in the yard.

1.5 lengths x 1.5 lengths 29.86. Raw Ability ANTHONY AZZOPARDI claimed his third Paws of Thunder (520m) title when Raw Ability ($3) (Barcia Bale x Bugatti Flyer Mar ’15) scored a thrilling win in the Group 1 feature at Wentworth Park on Saturday night. Drawn in box four, Raw Ability began well, matching motors early with Topgun heroine Up Hill Jill ($3.40) (Premier Fantasy x Where’s Demonica Feb ’15) which was drawn beside him in the five. Luckily, Raw Ability was able to push up on his rivals inside on Saturday night and from there it was game, set, match as he charged to the line to defeat the fast-finishing Slick ($2.90) (Dyna Lachlan x Pearl Za Zinger Apr ’15) by one and a half lengths in 29.86. Up Hill Jill was far from disgraced when running third, just under three lengths off the winner. It was the second group 1 win of Raw Ability’s career, having also won the Adelaide Cup last October and that win was also from box four.

Focus on….South Australia Coleraine couple’s first Tara Raceway win
busy after the Dyna Villa mating produced a litter of 11 with four ultimately being kept by them. “When we first moved to Coleraine we didn’t have a lot of room so we purchased a Tara Raceway slipping track key and made frequent trips to Mount Gambier in order that the pups could get plenty of galloping as they were growing up,” Sindy Colpoys said. Three other members of the litter, now racing as Ebonique, Yelredda Saint and Kimani (the Colpoys have retained an interest in this one), are being trained by Jeanette Imlach of Pearcedale. Viva Maldini has had one start since, for a fifth, on 7 January, beaten 7.5 lengths in the race won by Jam Lady (24.11).
By Mt G Greyhounds
Mike Kemp (left) and Steve Colpoys with Villa Maldini after his maiden win at Tara Raceway. REGULAR 100 kilometre trips from Coleraine over to Mount Gambier to exercise greyhound pups at the Tara Raceway slipping track finally paid off for Steve and Sindy Colpoys when Villa Maldini was successful at Mt Gambier’s end of year race meeting on 31 December. Lining up for start number three, the 21-month old black dog led all the way from box two in the Metal Worx Maiden Stake (400 metres), eventually defeating Hard Call by two lengths in the handy time of 23.69 seconds. This was the first win at Tara Raceway for the Colpoys who have been based at Coleraine for the past 15 months. Also on track to enjoy his first win with his first dog was Villa Maldini’s owner, Melbourne-based Mike Kemp, Sindy Colpoys’ son. By Group 1 winning Australian sire Dyna Villa, Villa Maldini is out of four-race Victorian winner Mizzy Maldini, a daughter of Group 1 winning Irish sire Droopys Maldini and Latin Sal who traces back to the prolific producer Wee Sal. This is Mizzy Maldini’s second litter, the first being by Fear Zafonic and producing five individual winners, including Sloan Ranger who long-time participant Steve Colpoys has no hesitation in naming as the best dog he has been associated with. “We had a lot of fun with him, winning races at Shepparton, Bendigo, Sale, Geelong, Ballarat, Warragul and Warrnambool,” he recalled. The second time round, the Colpoys were kept
The litter’s record to date has been: (updated 23/1) Dynamic Ross 3 0-0-0 Ebonique 2 0-0-0 Ima Maldini 3 0-0-0 Kimani 3 0-2-0 Piparae 9 0-1-1 Urban Bourbon 11 1-2-2 Urban Shiraz 9 1-2-0 Villa Maldini 4 1-0-0 Yelredda Saint 2 0-0-0 Might be worth keeping an eye on them as Dyna Villa is starting to get a few winners around the country. Which can be followed through our Metropolitan winners segment. The winners of all metropolitan races run in the six states, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, West Australia and Tasmania, first appear on our facebook page, as soon as we can manage, every morning, seven days a week. https://www.facebook.com/Victorian-GreyhoundWeekly-1781809112100364/?ref=bookmarks Greyhound Racing at Tara Raceway - Mt Gambier Sundays and alternate Friday afternoons

Focus on ….. South Australia Two litters for Judy POPULAR South Australian breeder, trainer, and Coursing Club Secretary, Judy Hurley has just bred another two litters! Judy writes to say “This silly woman keeps on keeping on! Just had another two litters. The first is by Humdrum x Emerley Avenue, 3 dogs/3 bitches (all brindle) whelped 20 November. I was looking for a “sane and Sensible” sire and hopefully with a bit of strength to compensate for her “stupidness” – 18 months will tell the tale.
Judy has also sent us a story on the Dynasty of Emerley Park. She said “You just don’t realise how much bloodlines contribute to the success or otherwise of a breeding program. Everything is related – either Auntie, mother, daughter, grand daughter, nephew, niece, you name it I’ve got it. We will have Judy’s “Dynasty of Emerley Park” in this segment next week.

For those wondering if sandpits help curb digging. We have found it very successful. To the point we removed the old one as I think fur and human children got upset tummies from it. Plastic starting to degrade a little too. Without it, the digging has restarted. Except today when I found evidence in HC’s sand pit. Definitely not human child. Stacey Ackland

Greyhounds in the home FOSTER A GREYHOUND: There are many greyhounds who need a little more assistance to help them settle into pet life They fall into two categories Greyhounds who are transitioning from the track and need help to pass their GAP assessment OR Those dogs who have been a marginal fail at their GAP assessment These dogs are just gorgeous happy greyhounds, the only difference is that need a little more help to transition into pet life The reality is that without foster carers some of these dogs are at risk If you would like to change the life of beautiful dog contact Rebecca and join her team ____________________________________________ Prince Fargo the Wonder Dog! Our weekly selection of greyhounds to follow, based on their breeding and recent performances ZANZEEDOO Black dog, October 2014 Bella Infrared* x Mepunga Lana. Owner: Jessica Row. Trainer: Deb Carr (Mininera). Lightly raced with just six starts to date, for two placings. Second from box seven over 450 metres at Warrnambool on 21 December, then unplaced there and Horsham. Sharp rise and distance to 515 metres at Sandown (SAP) on 21 January, when fifth, beaten 11.93 lengths, from box four in the race won by Dyna Oscar (29.69). Not bad run when you consider the winner won by 9.89 lengths and look at the time. SPLISH SPLASH Black dog, September 2015 Head Bound x Shine. Owner: Ross Farmer. Trainer: Peter Trim (Devon Meadows). Five starts now for two placings, 460 metres at Geelong and 450 metres at Ballarat. Unplaced over 520 metres at Sale (Box 4) and 525 metres at Traralgon (Box 5) before stepping up in class at Sandown (SAP) on 21 January. Had box four again and beaten 4.93 lengths when fourth in the race won by Wise Piquet (Box 1) who ran 30.16. Overdue for a decent box and could do better next start if he gets one. CANTERBURY Black dog, January 2016 Bella Infrared* x Paris Montana. Owner/trainer: Steven Toner (Bunyip). Nicely bred and didn’t do too bad when first start fourth from box three over 515 metres at Sandown (SAP) on 21 January. Beaten 8.06 lengths in the raced won by the more experienced Mepunga Molly (29.87) on that occasion and should improve with more racing.

Chief Havoc White and Fawn Dog (Trion x Thelma's Mate) Whelped September 1944 Owner-Trainer: J.Millerd Year of Induction into the Hall of Fame 2000 Feature Career Wins Included: 1946 NCA Stake Harold Park 1947 800 Yards Championship Harold Park Track Records: Chief Havoc attempted to set six track records times 440 yards – 23.5 sec 500 yards – 26.8 sec equalled track record 660 yards – 36.9 sec 700 yards – 38.7 sec 750 yards – 41.4 sec 800 yards – 44.3 sec
When Chief Havoc made his first appearance at Harold Park in November 1946, he blitzed his contender by six lengths and the time was 27, 2/5 th of a second outside the course record. This race attracted more than 16,000 race goers to the course, with several thousand leaving immediately after the big race. Chief Havoc's brilliant career was showcased when he won the 800 yards Championship at Harold Park in 1947,in a time of 44 seconds, beating Electronic by six lengths. Chief Havoc's time, which was actually a world record, unfortunately was not recognised in the official English register as the race was “manually clocked”.
