28 12 Litters (6.0)

THIS week’s Victorian Litter Registrations list, with 12 litters is dominated by George Dailly’s Dailly Greyhound Farms Syndicate, who have half of the list, six litters, by three different sires. Their first three litters are all by Allen Deed (December 2011 Jarvis Bale x Greta Bale). The first of the three Allen Deed litters, has five dogs and one bitch from the beautifully bred bitch, Fabriola Allen (October 2014 SH Avatar* x Quiz Bale), whose dam is by Dyna Lachlan x Princess Bale (Hallucinate x Gold Rush Bale). Next they have a litter with unfortunately just the two dog pups, by Allen Deed, from the well bred bitch, Fantastic Roxy (September 2013 Goodesy x Light Fantastic), whose dam is by El Galo x Dark Marne (Solve The Puzzle x Twirly Girl). Their other Allen Deed litter has six dogs and one bitch, from the well bred bitch, Polly Bale (July 2012 High Earner x Maple Bale), whose dam is by Spiral Nikita* x Vista Bale (Golden Currency x Luana Bale).

Turning the attention to leading National sire, Barcia Bale (March 2010 Go Wild Teddy x Princess Bale), then have a nice litter of seven pups, from the well bred bitch, Nessa Shim (May 2014 Dyna Tron x Shimaguni), the good producing dam by Primo Uno x Messines (Carnage x Cope Uppance). The Dailly Farm’s final two litters are by Melbourne Cup winner, now highly rated stud prospect, Black Magic Opal (May 2011 Magic Sprite x Awesome Opal). The first of their two Black Magic Opal litters, has three dogs and three bitches, from the well bred bitch, 2015 Group 2 Summer Plate finalist, Big Kat (Bekim Bale x Messines), whose dam is by Carnage x Come Uppance (Burst Asunder x Special Portrait). Their other Black Magic Opal litter, unfortunately has just the one bitch pup, from the well bred bitch, Dyna Gypsy (October 2014 KC And All* x Tonneli Bale), whose good producing dam is by Collision x Ambrosia Bale (Ashom Bale x Daishi Bale). Their six litters produced a total of 29 pups, 20 dogs and nine bitches, at an average of 5 per litter, which is a little down on the national average but a one and a two dragged that down.

Another Barcia Bale litter Barcia Bale March 2010 Go Wild Teddy x Princess Bale MOYSTON breeder, Peter Franklin also has a litter of ten pups on the list this week by leading National sire, Barcia Bale. The seven dogs and three bitches, are from the well bred bitch, Blonde Caviar (February 2011 Where’s Pedro x Lemon Crusier), whose dam is by Awesome Assassin x Empty Schooner (Royal Assassin x Salmazar). She is from a litter of nine named, from which the eight who raced all won, Ceduna Cruiser, Do Tell (unraced) , Ladies Alight, Lando, Mallee Di, Sambuca Siyan, Shot Glass and Where’s Ceduna. Her contribution to the litter’s success, was 45 starts, for nine wins and 17 placings, making her the standout of the litter. She won twice over 525 metres at The Meadows (30.08), where she also won over 600 metres (34.86), won twice over 500 metres at Bendigo (28.31), where she also won over 425 metres (24.11) with single wins over 545 metres at Ballarat (30.88) and 410 metres at Horsham (24.03), where she also won over 570 metres (32.6), then she produced a good first litter of eight by the international stud success, Bella Infrared*. -8-

Pups for Sale Outstanding opportunity to purchase a pup from a Group producing bitch with impeccable bloodlines 3 dogs and 2 bitches

Sire: Allen Deed December 2011 Jarvis Bale x Greta Bale Dam Love To Rock March 2012 Turanza Bale x Flamenco (Litter sister to freak sprinter now stud success, My Bro Fabio) Only 2 dogs and 2 bitches available for sale from litter of 9. Allen Deed was an absolute flying machine that holds the current track record of an unbelievable 29.37 at the Meadows. Allen Deed’s dam line is impeccable! His dam, Greta Bale, is by the amazing Gold Rush Bale, who also produced stud dogs Bartrim Bale, Dyna Tron, Dyna Steal and not to mention Princess Bale who has thrown the number one sire at the moment in Barcia Bale. This makes Greta Bale half-sister to these superstars and amazing producing dogs. His first progeny have commenced racing and most of them are already setting tracks alight: Dyna Forrest (20:7-3-2) most notably a finalist in the 2018 Australia Cup, he’s also had a 29.51 win at Sandown, Dyna Eroll (10:4-0-2) including a flying 25.58 at Geelong and It’s a Bull (5:3-0-0). If his first two litters are any indication of his success at stud, then we are sure to see a lot more of him in the future. Love to Rock is bred in the purple, she is out of Turanza Bale and her dam Flamenco is litter sister to the mighty Mogambo. She is also full sister to up and coming super sire MY BRO FABIO!!! To add to this remarkable CV, she has also thrown gun chaser Matt Machine (47:17-6-8) having amassed nearly $90k in prize money and winning 6 in BON! Including a slick 29.34 at Sandown and has broken 30 secs at the Meadows twice running 29.84 and 29.79. Her first litter to SH Avatar, that produced Matt Machine and Exs and Ohs was an outcross mating. As seen with her brother My Bro Fabio, he has clicked well when mated to an outcross. She has also thrown, Exs and Ohs (30:8-7-4) who has won almost $40k in prize money! She too running very slick times including a 34.21 at Sandown over the 595m and breaking the 30secs at Meadows in 29.95 If you are after a strong and powerful line, these pups certainly have it! This is a rare opportunity to tap into these amazing lines and get yourself a potential group dog. Considering all these facts, these pups stand at amazing value. Young superstar Tritt Tritt (17:11-2-1) including 6 BON! His best times of 34.07 @ Sandown, 34.45 @ Meadows and a flying 27.97 over the 545m at Bendigo. His best is yet to come!! Trumpsta (4:2-1-0). Pandaken (7:2-2-1) who has won in a smart 29.78 @ Sandown.

Sire: Banjo Boy April 2011 Vee Man Vane x Off Springer Dam:Houso Delight April 2013 El Grand Senor x Tenterfield Lil (Gable Lafourche* x Paw Nomaw Banjo Boy is producing up and coming stars and one that throws strength into his litters through the mighty Flying Penske*. This is Houso Delight's second litter. Her first litter to Fabregas are currently at the breakers with good reports coming back! This mating was chosen due to the close line breeding with superstars Big Flood, Brueghelino, Petadale etc. When Banjo boy was mated to Easy Baby, it produced Big Flood, Brughelino and Petadale, not to mention the rest of this successful, group producing litter. Easy Baby, a bitch out of the mighty El Grand Senor, has given these greyhounds great early speed and stamina to produce quality dogs that are quick early but can stay all day! Houso Delight, also a bitch by El Grand Senor is an exact replica of these traits! Making these superb pups ¾ in blood to Big Flood, Brughelino, Petadale etc. With El Grand Senor and Vee Man Vane prominent in the breeding, this is a recipe for explosive early speed! And as stated previously, Banjo Boy, having Offspringer as his dam, introduces the strength we have come to see through Group 1 champions Echelon, Granduer and Sweet It Is! Offspringer, when mated to Where’s Pedro's superstar son Mogambo produced such ultimate staying qualities and as El Grand Senor is also out of the mighty Where’s Pedro, we believe this mating with replicate those staying qualities! And it is for this reason that we believe these pups should have huge success on the race track.

Dogs $3000 Bitches $2500 These pups will not disappoint! Get in quick! At these prices, these pups will not last. To purchase or for more information, contact: Luke 0433250511 or Matt 0422490106

THIS week’s NSW Whelping Report, for the week ending 21 December, is dominated by five litters by leading national sire, Barcia Bale (March 2010 Go Wild Teddy x Princess Bale). The five litters, all from different sires, produced 15 dogs and 18 bitches, with two litters from proven producers. As leading national sire, this week’s Barcia Bale litters, provide opportunities for potential buyers, with future breeding in mind, especially those looking to start a foundation line. Nine pups, six dogs and three bitches, in the first litter, from Allan Woods at Nabiac, from the well bred bitch, Born Lightning (December 2010 Velocette x Born Princess, whose dam is by Whisky Assassin x Born Lucky (Big Ginger Boy x Magic Gairn). Next, Kevin Gordon has a litter of two dogs and nine bitches, from the beautifully bred, Elcee Jay (November 2013 Collision x Lochinvar Vogue), whose dam is by Bombastic Shiraz x Sensation Lee (Brett Lee x Grigorieva). Ernest Borg has a litter of two dogs and four bitches, from the well bred bitch Gate Juan (December 2012 Spring Gun x Queen’s Gate), whose dam is by Late Late Show* x Juicy Lucy (Brett Lee Goodoo Magic). ETTRICK BREEDER Paul Supple has his hands full at the moment with a litter of 14 pups on the ground, by veteran stud success, Collision (August 2001 Awesome Assassin x Rumble Spirit). The two dogs and twelve bitches, are from the beautifully bred, 2015 Damsels Dash winner, Banjo Bewdy (April 2013 Magic Sprite x Mary Lou Cargo), whose dam is by Premier Fantasy* x Best Of Diablo (Just The Best x Thai Magic) and worth recalling, Thai Magic is by Grove Whisper* x Lauren’s Desire. This litter, with twelve bitches represents an ideal opportunity for prospective buyers, with future breeding in mind. Banjo Bewdy is from a litter of seven named, which has four winners and she was the standout with her 31 starts producing the consistent record of ten wins and nine placings. She won three times over 525 metres at The Meadows (30.04), twice over 515 metres at Sandown (29.62), where she also won over 595 metres (34.31), twice over 520 metres at Dapto (29.82), and also over 520 metres at Cranbourne (30.08) and 600 metres at Albion Park (35.27). Eight for Fabio

Three Double One litters THREE litters on the list this week by under-rated stud prospect, Dyna Double One (March 2013 Barcia Bale x Crystin Bale), who lives in the shadow of his star sire, Barcia Bale, and former kennel mate, Fernando Bale. In any other era, breeders would have been beating a path to his door but in the modern age, like many outstanding stud prospects, their opportunities are limited. Terry Guymer has the first of his three litters, which has five dogs and four bitches, from the well bred bitch, Bay Of Sprite (May 2013 Magic Sprite x Bay Of Pearls), whose dam is by Go Wild Teddy x Kath’s A Star (Waterview Star x Isa Brown). Next, Kevin Smith has his litter of five dogs and one bitch, from the well bred bitch, Flyin’ Finley (May 2012 Bit Chili x Ruby Rock), whose dam is by Droopys Marco x Diamond Limbo (Fortified Speed* x Campus Miss). Darren Mines has the final Dyna Double One litter, which has five dogs and two bitches, from the well bred, Super Bronie (June 2012 Superman x Bronie Blue Bell), whose dam is by Primo Uno x Royal Footprints (Royal Assassin x Fiery Footprints).

Fernando Bale litter

Fernando Bale

QUEANBEYAN’S Silver Galah’s Syndicate has a nice litter of eight dogs on the list this week by Fernando Bale (March 2013 Kelsos Fusileer* x Chloe Allen). The three dogs and five bitches are from the well bred bitch, Sailaway Jackie (February 2014 Dyna Lachlan x Walkaway Jackie), whose dam is by Bombastic Shiraz x Walkaway Tiny (Collision x Walkaway Best). She is from a litter of seven named, which produced six winners, including Walkaway Annie, 51-12-10-4 and Walkaway Bonnie, 34-9-5-4. She raced 31 times for eleven wins and seven placings, winning four times over 440 metres at Canberra (25.27) at her first four starts, with single wins over, 525 metres at The Meadows (30.22), 515 metres at Sandown (29.66), 460 metres at Geelong (25.77), 425 metres at Bendigo (23.85), 450 metres at Ballarat (25.36) and 390 metres at Warrnambool (22.20). Fernando Bale topped our list of metropolitan winners from the six states last week, with an amazing 28 wins, eleven more than his nearest rival Barcia Bale, who had 17 wins, with Fabregas 16. (See pages 4-7).

REGULAR Swan Bay breeder, Alexander Verhagen has a nice litter of eight pups on the list this My Bro Fabio week by emerging sire, My Bro Fabio (March 2012 Turanza Bale x Flamenco). The two dogs and six bitches, are from the well bred bitch, To See Merry (December 2014 Barcia Bale x To See You), whose dam is by Elite And Classy x Where Are You (Hallucinate x Duel’s Me Mum). She is from a litter of eight named, which produced five winners, although it should be noted, the three that did not win, only had the starts between them. The winners were Lisa’s Pick, Miss Brae, Mulwee Red, Orphan Annie and To See Merry. She raced 24 times for six wins and nine placings, winning twice over 328 metres at Muswellbrook (19.06), where she also won twice over 429 metres (24.90) and twice over 310 metres at Canberra (17.93). Interesting times at the moment, for keen students of breeding and those looking to buy with future breeding in mind. There are bitches like this, daughters of the dominant Barcia Bale starting to whelp, and also of interest I find are daughters of some of the internationally successful sires who have done so well here in recent years, like Kinloch Brae*, Djays Octane*, College Causeway* and others.

Windy Millar*

August 2006 Honcho Classic (Head Honcho x Sure Lass) x Any Time Soon (Staplers Jo x Toss Spirit) 52 Starts 14 wins 23 placings Won 2009 Group 1 Belfred Stakes, and 2008 Group 3 Kasco Stakes, with placings at Group level. 10 Barcia Bale. THIS week’s Sons at Stud profile is the outstanding sprinter, four time track record holder, Whisky 7 Fernando Bale. Assassin. 6 Banjo Boy. Next week we should have the NSW Stud Services Disorderly (February 2006 x Must Command). for January 2018 Scarlett Girl (October 2007 x Scarlett Soy). Also noticed a couple of very good brood bitches, just outside that bracket, Naomi Cambaz and Cho Chang. He is still on the registered Sires list and has only one son with him and that is Black Houdini (October 2006 x Zanes’s Girl), which surprised me when I was doing the research. I always thought he was an under-rated sire, but there were a lot of good ones around at that time for him to compete with. You still see his name in reviews quite often. - 16 -

Coursing Results - South Australia SEASON GETS UNDERWAY In true coursing weather (windy, wet and cool), the 2018 season got underway with 42 nominations. As the first two meetings are only 4-dog events, we had an 11 race program with some keen coursing finals being witnessed. The meeting was delayed by an hour whilst a few teething problems were sorted out – but overall, once we got started things progressed well. It was welcome back to Trevor Whelan (lure driver) who returned after a 12 month absence from a knee operation. Our slipper, whilst a year older, performed magnificently as usual, coping with newcomers who hadn’t been in slips before and the older, more keen concentrated eye ball dogs who weren’t going to wait for anybody. Most of the coursing stalwarts appeared for their day out and everybody enjoyed the start of the season. Winners were spread amongst the participants with Race 1 being taken out by Ray Barkla with Nerolina from Gary Pidgeon’s Tricky Trixie; Race 2 saw Michael Taylor successful with Rhynstone Rocky who defeated Ray Fewing’s Ticklebelly Flat (that moniker would ring a few bells with our older participants). Race 3 saw Don Turner back in the winner’s circle with Able defeating Charlie Adcock’s Garfield Cloud and Race 4 provided Judi Hurley with a winner in Emerley Again who defeated Rob Seipp’s Hollow Point. Vadim Roz returned to coursing with Lektra Stroll who defeated Optic Angel in the 5th. Raye Kelly continued her coursing participation when Click Here defeated Judi Hurley’s Emerley Giggler. Race 7 provided Don Turner with a double when Roxy Rolla defeated Stuart Ellis’ Rhystone Teddy and Race 8 saw the return of Carole Scott’s Lonely Cowboy when he defeated Charlie Adcock’s Bangor Springs. The first Novice event saw the evergreen Sikem Dash return to the winner’s circle when defeating Peter Wilton’s Senni Amber and the other Novice saw Peter Smith’s Harbison Miss defeat Les Carraill’s Dinah Palms. The final event of the day was a 2-dog Free for All event who saw Ray Fewing’s Michele Quick defeat Nathan Hughes 2017 Coursing GOY Gangalla Fury. Our next event is in a fortnight 29 April – all grades catered for – still only 4dog events – give your dogs a treat and enjoy a morning at Virginia. Yes there’s raincoats for greys (Mandy Davis) We have an awesome orange one that we bought from After the walk Annie's Coats, and it is totally perfect. (Pip McDonald) There sure is! Nostalgia If you have a Nostalgia contribution email to editor@victoriangreyhoundweekly.com.au

Remembering one of the great contributors.

He

The late Dr. Alex Hauler. When a vet has weekly appointments with greyhound trainers of the ilk of Kelvyn Greenough, Darren McDonald and Jason Thompson he must be doing something right. For many years, assisting trainers in preparing greyhounds to win races was a major part of the working life of the late Dr. Alex Hauler, a veterinarian who specialised in greyhound racing who passed away from brain cancer in 2004, aged just 58.

befriended a number of greyhound trainers, perhaps none more so than multiple Group 1 winning mentor, Kelvyn Greenough.

After being diagnosed with brain cancer, Dr. Hauler made it a priority to pass down as much of his Dr. Hauler initially learned the craft of treating racing greyhound knowledge as he could. As such he spent the greyhounds by a man 17 years his senior, the late Dr. Jim Gannon, himself a GRV Hall of Fame inductee who last three months of his life having intense one on one sessions with a select few people, including Greenough. pioneered greyhound medicine. “In the last three months before he died he spent about It is fitting that the man many regard as Dr. Gannon’s one and a half hours a week teaching me anything I number one student has followed him into the Hall of wasn’t sure about,” Greenough recalled. Fame, and elite trainers insist that Dr. Hauler took the treatment of racing greyhounds into a new stratosphere. “After Alex died I was working about 30 hours per Dr. Hauler broke new ground when it came to a number week checking people’s greyhounds as well as of areas of greyhound medicine including chiropractic continuing to train a few myself. It was great in a way because I was making a good earn out of it, but the manipulation, acupuncture and liver treatment. bottom line was that I didn’t have a qualification, so the odd person would question my diagnosis and I just didn’t need the headaches,” he said. “A few of us trainers called him god. He was my idol.” Dr. Alex Hauler is one of two veterinarians to have been inducted into GRV’s Hall of Fame.

GRV News

Andrew Copley

Based in Devon Meadows, Leek also has an outstanding reputation as a commercial rearer, having reared my champions in years gone by including Brokenwood, Godsend, Moreira and Nolen along with present-day stars Bewildering and Extreme Magic. Speaking on SEN’s The Sporting Capital last month, Leek told listeners that anyone thinking about purchasing a greyhound pup should first organise a reputable rearer. “If you’re going to buy a pup and you’ve got your eye on a litter, try to find someone to rear your pup before you purchase it,” Leek said. “it’s important you don’t have it reared by just anyone because the rearing phase is such an integral part of a greyhound’s life and can be the difference between winning races and not making it to the racetrack at all. Speak to people that are successful and ask where they get their pups reared, and go from there.” Booking an educator to break-in your pup is something you may also want to do well in advance, as there can be a 12 month waiting list in some instances.

Highly respected greyhound racing all-rounder Karen Leek is enjoying the fruits of a talented litter she bred in mid-2015 sired by Djays Octane out of Lady Deedee. The litter of six has produced five winners, four of which are trained by Leek. The best of them is Trouper, who won the Horsham Cup Consolation (485m) last month, along with talented stayers Sir Jay Jay and Lady Ceecee plus Savannah Ash, who has won at Sandown Park in the impressive time of 29.67sec.
