43 13 Litters (7.2)

Todd Chatwin has a second litter on the list this week, one of two by leading Victorian metropolitan sire, Fernando Bale (March 2013 Kelsos Fusileer x Chloe Allen). The litter has five dogs and four bitches, from the well bred bitch, Tyra Giselle (August 2011 Velocette x Paua To Burn), whose dam is by Awesome Assassin x Alice Dooley (Barrantes x Impish Dancer). She is from a litter of three named, which included Coctail Party, 3 wins and Powerful Girl, 11 wins. She raced 47 times, for 13 wins and 17 placings, winning over 515 metres at Sandown (29.71), 525 metres at The Meadows (30.29), where she also won over 600 metres (34.64), 520 metres at Sale (30.07), where she also won over 440 metres (24.88) and 650 metres )37.27), 520 metres (30.41) and 699 metres (41.53) at Cranbourne and 460 metres at Warragul (26.07). Plenty to like about her strong middle distance form, Todd, and I would imagine this litter will attract plenty of interest.

THIS week’s review of litters selected from the Victorian Litter Registrations list for the week ending 16 May, starts with three litters by outstanding national stud success, Barcia Bale (March 2010 Go Wild Teddy x Princess Bale). Johnsonville breeder, Todd Chatwin has the first of his three litters, which has six dogs and five bitches, from the very well bred, proven producer, Bit Berger (June 2011 Bit Chili x Burning Desire), whose dam is by Token Prince x Miss Megastar (Awesome Assassin x Alice Dooley). She is from a litter of five named, with four winners, although the other one only raced once. She raced 71 times, for 21 wins and 22 placings, with wins over 515 metres at Sandown (29.51), 525 metres at The Meadows (30.19), 388 metres at Angle Park (22.35), 460 metres at Warragul (26.05), 440 metres (25.79) and 530 metres (29.50) at Sale, 513 metres at Traralgon (29.74), 529 metres at Cranbourne (30.06), 400 metres (23.31) and 520 metres (30.21) at Mt Gambier, 410 metres at Horsham (23.47) and 390 metres (22.09) and 450 metres (25.59) at Shepparton. She has winners on file from her December 2015 litter by Djays Octane*.

Talking Breeding - Victoria Certainly plenty to like about this litter George, and with eight bitches, I would suggest there will be plenty of interest from potential buyers with future breeding in mind.

Talking Breeding Victoria

Second Fernando Bale litter NYORA breeder, Simon Mallia has the second Fernando Bale litter, which has two dogs and four bitches, from the well bred bitch, Gawker Bale (October 2013 Taylors Sky* x Zambola Bale), whose dam is by Collision x Maple Bale (Spiral Nikita* x Vista Bale). She is from an excellent litter of eight named, who won 133 races between them. Her share was seven wins and 17 placings, from her 49 starts, with wins over 400 metres at Gawler (23.10), 447 metres at Port Augusta (25.66), 450 metres at Ballarat (25.42), 460 metres at Geelong (26.04) and 525 metres at The Meadows (30.24). Rushforth breeder, Debbie Winter, has the litter of eight dogs and two bitches, who are from the well bred bitch, Opal Valley (March 2014 Spring Gun x Fagus Valley), whose dam is by Give Me Five x Aralakka Valley (County Assassin x Venus Serena). Looking back through her pedigree, it is probably worth recalling, County Assassin is by Awesome Assassin x Star County (Star Title x Short County) and Venus Serena is by Major Fox x Aralack (Arelem x Jacko’s Sister). Opal Valley was the standout in her litter of nine Barcia Bale named, with five of the six who raced, winning. Her race record shows she raced just 18 times, for THIS week’s review of litters from the NSW Whelping the very good record of 12 wins and three placings. report for the week ending 17 March, starts with two She won four times over 307 metres at Bathurst nice litters by outstanding national stud success, Barcia (17.54), three times over 305 metres at Grafton (17.20), Bale (March 2010 Go Wild Teddy x Princess Bale). twice over 287 metres at Lithgow (16.86) and also over Ellalong breeder, Michelle Shambler has the first 318 metres at Dubbo (18.39) and 305 metres at Casino of his two litters, which has five dogs and five bitches, (17.20), where she also won over 411 metres (23.05). from the very well bred, smart city class staying bitch, Melissa’s Pride (June 2014 Magic Sprite x Cindeen Shelby), whose dam is by Bombastic Shiraz x Proper Shelby (Royal Assassin x Proper Angel). Talking Breeding NSW Talking Breeding NSW Kevlarr litter Go Fernando Fernando Bale

COOLABAH breeder, Noelene Walsh has a litter of nine pups on the NSW list this week by phenomenal early stud success, Fernando Bale (March 2013 Kelsos Fusileer* x Chloe Allen). The two dogs and seven pups in the litter are from the well bred bitch, Blue Thunda (July 2012 El Grand Senor x Whinging Wrench), whose dam is by Big Daddy Cool x Tommie’s Placard (Placard x Shy But Sly). She is from a handy litter of nine named, which included Black Tommie, Coolabah Moola, Gut Wrenching, Late Male, Senor Bonka, Senor Laurie, Veetee Dynamite and Veetee Senor, who were all winners, who won 102 races between them. Her contribution to the litter’s success was considerable, with her 23 starts resulting in the great record of 18 wins and three placings. She won five times over 400 metres at The Gardens (22.80), three times over 280 metres at Wentworth Park (15.99), three times over 400 metres at Gosford (22.86), three times over 318 metres at Dubbo (18.08), where she also won three times over 400 metres (22.72) and also won over 400 metres at Maitland (22.77). With seven bitches in the litter, Noelene, I would think there would be considerable interest from prospective buyers, with future breeding in mind. Lets hope she throws a couple who were as consistent on the track as she was. She has one previous litter on file, which produced three dogs and five bitches, whelped in May 2017, by Magic Sprite, who will be worth keeping an eye on when they hit the tracks.

EGLINTON breeder, Richard Board, has our final litter for review this week, which has seven pups by the well bred, little known sire, Kevlarr (June 2012 Spring Gun x Little Blue Gem), whose dam is by Go Wild Teddy x Paris St Germain (Bright Ebony x Gold Serenade). Kevlarr is from a litter of five named, all winners, which included, Derenger, Speeding Bullet, Spring Gem and Spring Ricky. Kevlarr was lightly raced, with just 12 starts from which he recorded five wins and four placings. After private trialling in an unofficial track record time of 22.18 over 400 metres, his career on the track started well there with five wins and a second from his first six starts, four over 400 metres (22.25) and the other over 472 metres (26.29). He was sent to Melbourne in March 2015 where he raced three times for a 515 metres Sandown second, beaten 0.12 lengths in 29.60 after leading almost all the way, then a Healesville 350 metres placing, after which he never raced again. Richards litter of five dogs and two bitches are from the well bred bitch, Angel’s Sing (February 2009 Collision x Rainy Day), whose dam is by November Gandhi x Crystal Gal (Splinter Lad x Polly’s Dream). She is from a litter of seven named, which produced six winners and her record on the track shows she raced 56 times, for the handy record of 15 wins and 19 placings. She started her racing career in New South Wales where she win twice over 520 metres at Bathurst (30.74) and twice over 506 metres at Lithgow (30.10). Transferring to Victoria, in May 2011, she went on to win six times over 513 metres at Traralgon (29.73) and also over 520 metres at Cranbourne (39.72), 460 metres at Warragul (26.13) and 440 metres at Sale (24.82), where she also aon over 520 metres (29.83). She is already a proven producer with winners from her first two litters, both by Spring Gun. Her first litter, whelped in January 2013 included Angel’s First, Armed And Ready, Gunsblaze, Majestic Gun, Misty Gun, Rusty Gun, Secret Gun and Singing Gun. Her second Spring Gun litter, whelped in January 2015, included Humble Mouse, Quick Defence and Ready And Armed.

Greyhounds in the home Friends of Greyhound Adoption Programs (Australia)

http://www.facebook.com/groups/144096608971567/

We adopted our gorgeous girl Siggy 5 weeks ago. She was extremely timid at first but has settled in very well now with our GSP boy. The only issue we’re having is that during the past couple of weeks she has started to pull her jumper off, bark and jump at the hallway door (that separates the open living area where the dogs sleep from the rest of the house) anywhere from 3am onwards. Every day. At first we thought she was signalling for toilet so we have been taking her out before bed to make sure she goes. Even tried letting her out when she would bark but she doesn’t seem to need to go then. Ignoring it doesn’t work. She would hold on all night and wait for us quietly to get up well for the couple of weeks that we had her but now it’s getting ridiculous. So tired! Any suggestions? Could it be the colder weather (we live in southern Victoria)? Steph Southby We got this one . Around $200 from petbarn Kim Danielle

Siggy

A picture of innocence. But if I turn my back for 30 seconds she’ll chew through the neck of the coat Needless to say, outside ‘cleaner is here’ time is closely monitored. #butterwouldntmelt Mel Finch

Who buys pups ? Following a decided lack of interest in the subject from NSW and Vic authorities I am wondering if anyone has ever bothered to check into who actually buys pups. I guess you would have to pick a specific age but I am assuming here it would be whatever an accepted age would be for the first such sale. I imagine the split up would be ...  Other trainers/breeders  Existing dog owners  New owners (individuals)  New owners (syndicates/groups)  Retained by breeder Presumably auction sales would be a different story due to the age of nominees. Either way, this would seem to be important economic information to assist in decision making. The evidence suggests no such checks or information were in use when those authorities made decisions over the past year or two. NSW surveyed licensees about changes to grading while Vic just fiddled with fees. While I am here, can you tell me what most determines the number of pups whelped per litter Or the sex. Bruce Teague.
