There’s just something about the seasoned grilled chicken at this unassuming cafe that makes us cry out in the middle of the night for a sweet-smelling poultry apparition named Rosalena. And apparently we’re not the only ones. During lunchtime, a line of faithful followers can be seen snaking out the door of Café Rosalena, as if they’re waiting to see an image of the Virgin Mary seared onto a decadent slice of chicken. Although Caesar Cardini is credited with creating the Caesar salad in the early 1920s, it’s Café Rosalena who is henceforth credited with making it the best in Silicon Valley. Wait a second. Cardini had a daughter named Rosa. They grew up in San Diego and Tijuana. What if Rosalena of Café Rosalena is the direct descendant of the original Caesar salad recipe? We doubt it.
