Shopping & Entertainment

Great new flagship and concept stores open at Canal Walk Shopping Centre Canal Walk Shopping Centre is proving to be the preferred South African location for the flagship and concept stores of some of the world‟s leading brands. Canal Walk was selected to house the largest iStore in Africa. The first and only concept store of its kind on the African continent opened its doors on 10 August. The newly imagined home for all-things Apple takes its entire experience to the next level, offering customers while-you-wait repairs for iPhone and other products. The refreshed iStore Canal Walk is three times bigger than its predecessor and includes a lounge area, product and accessory showcase area, a separate training room, technical support and setup desk. Besides its daily product training, iStore Canal Walk offers an expanded series of informative and inspirational events, training and workshops with an array of industry experts from music, art, illustration, design, video, coding, photography, health and fitness, education and business.

In exciting news for the whole family, LEGO opened in September and soon after that , the famous Smashburger burger joint RocoMamas opened. Some other stores that also joined the Canal Walk family were Urban Grande, Biggie Best, New Era, Memi Jewellery kiosk, Time Watch Specialists, Homemade and Yokico. Added to this, action sports brand VANS will also open a major concept store at Canal Walk in November, only the third such store of its kind in the world and the first for the African continent. The brand‟s other top-tier concept stores are in Milan and Dubai. The new VANS at Canal Walk will include a “custom lab” in which customers will be able to personalise their purchase. Poetry relocated and opened a flagship space offering an immersive experience for its customers. Clarks shoes will help people of all ages to put their best foot forward and Cape Union Mart has taken the next steps in its exciting journey with Canal Walk, and upscaled and revamped while Coricraft has also moved to a new, bigger store with a great new look. Beauty and grooming are also getting a boost at Canal Walk, with the recently opened Dermalogica store, the beautifully renovated EDGE for Men store and the Sorbet Man experience. Kids Emporium also joined Canal Walk‟s line-up. Stores opening soon at Canal Walk include Krispy Kreme, John Craig, The Crazy Store, Cotton On Kids, Bag World and Banbata Clothing. The centre‟s dynamic new tenant mix shows a full appreciation and understanding of the nuances and complexities of operating a retail destination in today‟s modern era. Canal Walk‟s approach to 21st Century retail is reaping rewards for its tenants and its diverse clientele. “Experience will play a central role in how we take the shopping centre forward in an era where it‟s easier for many to click and pay. We are finding exciting new ways of working with innovative brands to create the type of experiences and attractions that will delight our clients for years to come,” says Gavin Wood, CEO of Canal Walk.

He adds, “Shopping centres play a central role in how we connect as humans – whether it is to bring the kids to see a show, enjoy a movie with friends, socialise with family or simply to shop. As a catalyst for human connection, Canal Walk continues to innovate and find great new ways for our customers to enjoy themselves.” Of course, part of the new look and future way of providing for its visitors will include how Canal Walk operates – especially embracing green principles and saving scarce resources. “We strive to give our guests an experience unlike any other, one that is curated especially to their tastes, needs and values. Our impressive and growing fleet of flagship stores amplify the unique experience that is Canal Walk. This, our concept stores and unmatched variety make Canal Walk the first choice for customers who want a thoroughly enjoyable experience,” concludes Wood.

The rich history of Bosman Family Vineyards is a testament to the family‟s commitment to people, the land, and of course, the art of wine-making. Lelienfontein, home of Bosman Family Vineyards was originally issued to French Huguenot, Philip de Royan in 1699. The first generation of the Bosman family arrived on the farm in 1798. The family‟s first ancestor, Hermanus Bosman, was a sieketrooster (caregiver) who worked in the Cape and played a central role in community development and social upliftment. Bosman lived by the motto of the family crest: „faith, hope and love.‟ His progressive thinking, desire to help his fellow man, and deep respect for the harmony of nature informed everything he did, and shaped the both the future of the farm and the generations who followed. The Bosman family produced wine on the estate up until 1957, when the family turned their focus to their vine nursery. In 2007, 8th generation, Petrus Bosman, returned to the long-held family dream and released the first wines from their newly renovated 260year-old cellar. Today, the descendants of Hermanus Bosman are proud custodians of both his land and his legacy, devoted to responsible, handcrafted winemaking.

The Bottega family are proud of their Italian heritage and are active participants in the Italian community in South Africa. Their decision to plant Italian varietals as part of their diversified portfolio of grapes, and actively promote these grape varietals in South Africa, is a celebration of this heritage.

The true inspiration for the farm‟s name was drawn from an unforgettable summer evening back in July 1990. That evening, the ancient Baths of Caracalla in Rome provided the sublime setting for six thousand lucky people to witness the inaugural and original Three Tenors concert. So special was the operatic singing that night, that when Luciano Pavarotti asked the President of Italy which song he should perform as an encore, the reply was simply “Da Capo!” which in Italian means “From the beginning”. As such, Da Capo was an obvious choice when Alberto Bottega named the vineyard some years later.

Kwalucia Private Safari Retreat is nestled in the beautiful village of St Lucia, the only village in Southern Africa to be completely surrounded by a Natural World Heritage Site. St. Lucia was first named in 1554 as "Rio de Arelas de Ouro" ("River of the sands of Gold") by the survivors of the Portuguese ship Saint Benedict. At this stage, only the Tugela River mouth was known as St. Lucia. Later, in 1575, the Tugela River was properly named Tugela. On 13 December 1575, the day of the feast of Saint Lucy, Manuel Peresterello renamed the whole mouth area to Santa Lucia. The 19th century saw extensive hunting for ivory, rhino horn and hippo teeth. Fortunately, the ecological significance of the wildlife and fish resources were recognized and protected by declaring this area a Nature Reserve on 27th April 1897. This reserve included the Lake and some of the surrounding land. The original reserve of 36 826Ha is considered the oldest permanently declared reserve in Africa. Today St Lucia is part of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, covering an area of 332 000 hectares . (Formely the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park). In Zulu iSimangaliso means "Miracle or wonder", the words used by uJeqe, Zulu Emperor uShaka‟s herbalist who entered this region in 1828 and reported seeing “miracles and beauty in the land of the Thonga”. In 1999 the same land that astonished uJeqe was voted the first of the 8 declared World heritage sites in South Africa by United Nations Educational, scientific & cultural organization: UNESCO.
