Hartenberg Wine Estate Carl graduated as Dux student in 1988 from Elsenburg. He joined Hartenberg Estate as Winemaker in 1994. The Estate first came to prominence in the late 1970s under the "Montagne" label, producing top-end Shiraz. Today the property produces three highly regarded examples of this grape. In 1996 Carl was appointed as a Director of the Estate and invited that year to join the Cape Winemakers Guild. Carl has also previously served as CWG Chairman. Over the past twenty years at Hartenberg, Carl has worked and travelled widely in Australia, France, Italy, Portugal, the United States and Germany, with the aim of expanding his frame of reference and technical knowledge. Today, as Cellarmaster he oversees both viticultural and winemaking production at the Estate. Our underground cellar is the largest privately owned cellar in South Africa. Commissioned in the late 1980's, our cellar plays gallery to twelve artworks by German coppersmith, Karl Heinz Wilhelm. They took two years to complete, and describe each of the twelve phases of cultivating and producing wine.

Morgenster Wine Estate Morgenster Wine & Olive Estate in Somerset West, 35 minutes from Cape Town, is at the gateway to the Western Cape wine-growing region. It is a thriving olive and wine farm dating back to 1711, producing internationally acclaimed Bordeaux-style wines and extra virgin olive oil of astounding quality. The Morning Star within a scallop shell as depicted on the front gable of Morgenster's beautiful manor house, the private home of owner Giulio Bertrand, is the Estate's signature and features on the labels of its fine wines and olive products. Visitors to the Estate's stylish Revel Fox designed tasting room, which is set against the Schaapenberg and overlooks a reed lined dam and the Helderberg, can enjoy a wine tasting experience unique in South Africa. The Estate's philosophy is to release its red Bordeaux style blends only when they have developed and aged to potential and the cellar therefore houses highly awarded earlier vintages under its Morgenster and Lourens River Valley labels. Visitors can also enjoy Giulio Bertrand's three Italian Collection wines from his small sangiovese and nebbiolo vineyards and be guided through an olive oil tasting of intriguing complexity.

Building on the success of his first three established eateries — Chefs Warehouse and Canteen on Bree Street, Thali in Gardens and Chefs Warehouse at Beau Constantia — chef Liam Tomlin has created a taste experience that matches the magnificent setting of the Maison Estate. Under the guidance of Tomlin, dynamic young chef David Schneider uses fresh ingredients, based on seasonal availability, to create a global tapas inspired menu that incorporates a world of different flavours in one, multicoursed meal. Expect the unexpected.
Luke Dale-Roberts of The Test Kitchen fame has partnered in a joint venture with his wife, Sandalene Dale-Roberts, his top chef Wesley Randles and manager Simon Widdison to open The Shortmarket Club in a heritage building just off vibey Bree Street. The excitement around the food and the venue is palpable, and The Shortmarket Club has already created a buzz in the Mother City ahead of its opening on 27 June. Dale-Roberts is justifiably proud of this new venture: Im extremely excited about what this will bring to the City Bowl, he says.

I was born and raised in Addis Ababa, a city located 2300m above sea level, where the sun shines pleasantly and feeds you with warmth, even on chilly days. During my childhood I smelled the aromas and tastes of our traditional food as it was prepared with delicious spices, fresh ingredients and of course Teff - one of the world's oldest grains. Before we milled the Teff’s tiny grains, which provide us with so much of what we need for our daily diet, we would expose it to the sun. It was always a beautiful sight to behold. A part of daily life as a child that I remember vividly. I would admire it with wonder, while at the same time vigilantly keeping an eye out for opportunistic chickens, birds and cows.

Seafood is the name of the game here, and a very good job they do of it, too. You’ll want to start with some fresh oysters, naked or dressed – and it’s a great opportunity to improve your shellfish education: order a Saldanha and Knysna oyster side by side and compare. They do a popular half-price oyster happy hour twice daily (12-1 and 5-6), which only adds to the appeal. But the starter menu also offers items like hake ceviche, an oyster po’boy, and a tangy little anglefish taco to whet the appetite. Mains range from accessible items like the (very popular) hake and chips, a couple of seafood curries and a SeaBreeze Caesar salad, to more exotic dishes like whole grilled bream, as well as grilled swordfish with a fresh green herby pesto, new potatoes and broccolini.
NGORONGORO SERENA SAFARI LODGE Tanzania‘s prehistoric Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the Eighth Wonder of the World, has yawned heavenward for millennia. Deep within its immense walls is a breath-taking blue-green landscape dotted with plains, lakes and forests; an eerie, otherworldly ―land that time forgot‖ thick with massive bull elephants, rhinos, wildebeests and the highest concentration of lions in Africa. Nestled high above the plains into the Crater‘s jagged rim, cloaked in river stone and indigenous vines, Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is barely visible to the naked eye. Framed by arched stone passages and timbered decks, its torch-lit walls are adorned with stylized cave paintings. At the stone heart of the lodge burns a glowing fire, which is kept constantly alight. Rooms are looped around the Crater rim. Each has its own rock-enclosed balcony, and all enjoy completely uninterrupted views of the volcanic amphitheatre far below. Our Ngorongoro hotel lodge is a place that feels as ancient as the Crater itself, yet no modern comfort has been spared in an effort to bring you the best safari adventure in Africa and one of the most unique travel experiences in the world. Many a childhood would have been spent playing in the world of ‗make-believe‘. Within this imaginary existence many of us will have climbed and played high up in the bows and branches and, for the lucky few, built a ‗palace‘ in the sky. It is this nostalgic sparkle that is all too visible in the eyes of the ‗grown-ups‘ who gaze upon Tarangire Treetops for the first time. Tarangire Treetops sits serenely on the border of the Tarangire National Park Tanzania. A BLAZE OF COLOUR AND SMILES As you arrive at the Lodge, you are immediately greeted by a blaze of colour and a host of smiles all of which belong to the local Maasai tribesmen who have become part of the enchanting story that is Tarangire Treetops. ENCHANTING AND ROMANTIC Centered about a Main Lodge - which itself encases a thousand year-old baobab tree Tarangire Treetops comprises of 20 rooms all of which are elevated above the ground affording views over the tops of surrounding marula and baobab trees. Leopard Mountain In 1997 our family realised their dream of owning and running a Safari Lodge! With no previous experience in hospitality, but a great passion for conservation and a drive to give exceptional service to guests, we embarked on our journey to create an outstanding family-run lodge in Zululand. The lodge was built by the family with stone and locally sourced materials with the help from the community members who were brought in and taught how to build. In 2003 Clive Vivier began sharing his dream of creating a large conservation area with our neighbours. Giving birth to the 56 000 acre Manyoni Private Game Reserve.
The years that followed saw a flurry of exciting introductions creating a haven for the big five and endangered species like black rhino and wild dog. In 2017, we celebrated 20 years of hard work from our dedicated team of 40 incredibly professional staff, led by Ryan and Joe Vivier. Our extended family are passionate about what they do and embrace the values and ethos that Leopard Mountain lives by. We have enjoyed over 20 years of amazing guests that have visited Leopard Mountain time and time again and who appreciate what makes our piece of heaven so unique. Makakatana Bay Lodge Makakatana Bay Lodge is named after a Zulu Chief called "Chief Mhakhakhathana", who lived in the area many years ago. The Makakatana Bay Lodge logo of the crab was used because the land on which the lodge currently lies had an old concrete block house built on it by Hugh's grandfather, John Kemp Morrison (Jock) who used it to store fish and crabs in the early 1900s. The 'crab' house was later left abandoned due to the severe heat of summer and due to the banning of commercial catching of the crabs and when the Lodge was built it was initally used as a wine cellar. We have since put the old building into retirement due to invading fig tree roots. James (Jimmy) & Ursula Morrison lived at Makakatana for 50 years before moving to Ballito, on the KwaZulu Natal north coast, where Ursula Morrison still lives. Ursula Morrison has written some wonderfully rich memoirs of the history behind Makakatana.
On 27 april 1897 St Lucia was declared a game reserve. The conservation area was a 35'000 hectare lake with a 1km strip of land surrounding the lake. At a later stage other conservation areas were added. On 1 December 1999 UNESCO declared the lake and adjacent coastal areas a world heritage site. The 328'000 hectare reserve was South Africa‘s first world heritage site and encompasses 5 five major ecological zones. Makakatana Bay Lodge remains the only privately owned lodge situated within this World Heritage Site.

Hartford House Peering through one teakwood door at Hartford House, you face the splendour of the 1800s. Opening another, the distant sounds of an ancient people at work lilt across the silent landscape, a country of great space, spectacular mountains and big skies. This place commands a headland between the world of traditional cultures and the gracious style of a bygone era. Hartford is the resolution of all South African safaris, the journey's exclamation point. A retreat from the hubbub where you make sense of a fast life and its senseless details, and where we learn to redress ourselves on a first name basis. There are too many luxury hotels in the world offering the same: a chocolate on the pillow, canned romance, and cuisine called "haut" because it's spelled in French. Hartford stands apart for its authenticity. Its architecture, views, dining, sounds and scents, its racehorses and its people are all exhilarating surprises, unique to this Zululand, this culture, to Africa. Yes, you come here to be pampered, but at Hartford luxury is the journey, not the destination. The truth is, Hartford just happened. A home, and a grand one at that, which grew into a hotel. A community looks to it as its watering hole, its nexus of entertainment, its fountain of gossip. In so many ways, it's gained and regained inspiration from the cultures it celebrates. It is life's exception, a place at the same time comfortable beyond dreams, yet innocent of pretence. Kalamata (Greek: Καλαμάτα Kalamáta) is the second most populous city of the Peloponnese peninsula, after Patras, in southern Greece and the largest city of the homonymous administrative region. The capital and chief port of the Messenia regional unit, it lies along the Nedon River at the head of the Messenian Gulf. Ancient Greek civilization has contributed to many parts of today's society. The teachings and doings of ancient Greeks have remained important lessons that many societies still base their own laws and ethics. The ancient Greeks implemented their values of loyalty, glory, intelligence and hospitality into everyday life. While these values may seem simple, they effectively shaped an entire civilization into a culture that is one of the most referenced in history

INTERNATIONAL SMASH HIT “STOMP” TO BASH AND CRASH ITS WAY BACK TO SA Where rhythm speaks every language … From London and Paris to Las Vegas and New York STOMP makes music with brooms, matchboxes, hands and feet, poles, chairs, sinks, basketballs, newspapers and more, climaxing with the exhilarating trademark bins routine, where metal trashcans become drums and dustbin lids become combat shields. The encore engages the audience in a call and response that proves rhythm is a universal language. This wildly entertaining international show heads to South Africa later this year opening at Montecasino‘s Teatro on Tuesday, 13 August for a four week season ending on Sunday, 08 September 2019. Thereafter STOMP moves to Cape Town, on stage at Artscape from Wednesday, 11 September to Sunday, 22 September 2019. Tickets are available only from Computicket, the show‘s exclusive authorised ticketing agent. The show is brought to this country by leading local show promoter, Showtime Management in association with BBC First. STOMP finds beauty and music in the mundane. It turns brooms into instruments and handclapping into a conversation; the junk and clutter of urban life becomes the source of infectious rhythm and wonder. The highly talented performers take the audience on a journey through sound, where rhythm is the only language. Guaranteed to make your heart pound as the infectious rhythms of 8 brilliantly synchronised STOMP performers beat truck inner tubes, rubber hosing, Zippo lighters, plastic bags, metal dustbins, bin lids, tubs, water butts and, yes, even the kitchen sink! And then there are the brooms that are turned into soft shoe partners. STOMP is a unique combination of percussion, dance and physical comedy: seen by over 12 million people worldwide, there have been long running productions in London, Paris, Las Vegas, Boston and San Francisco, with the flagship New York still running, now celebrating its 25th year. There are up to 4 STOMP productions around the globe at any given time. STOMP has been touring the globe for 26 years, playing over 20 thousand performances in 55 countries on 6 continents. STOMP also performed in London‘s West end for 15 years. Created in Brighton, UK, in the summer of 1991, STOMP was the result of a ten year collaboration between its creators, Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas. The popularity of STOMP continually grew from strength to strength resulting in the cast performing live at the 1996 Academy Awards (the Oscars) to an estimated audience of almost 1 billion worldwide. The largest assembly of STOMP performers ever (40 performers from 12 different countries) was brought together for a specially choreographed appearance at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Matchboxes, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters and more fill the stage with energizing beats at STOMP, the inventive and invigorating stage show that's dance, music and theatrical performance blended together in one electrifying rhythm. The show toured South Africa in 2010 to critical acclaim and sold out performances. ―The sizzling energy of STOMP is beyond infectious‖ says Hazel Feldman of Showtime Management, the show‘s local promoter. ―Almost a decade later we welcome STOMP back this country to share its unique and energetic artform while introducing it to a new generation of theatre-goers.‖

The eponymous NCW is housed in a renovated Edwardian building that gives it rustic charm with a sense of history, while the stylish mid-century furniture and contemporary art collection adorning the interior keep it fresh and modern. From the grand piano and wine cellar in the parquet-floored entrance hall, NCW is broken up into three broad areas: the restaurant space seating 30 people, an inter-leading lounge area that includes two private dining rooms, and an enclosed patio that‘s perfect for alfresco dining on warm Joburg nights. These different spaces make NCW versatile enough to be a high-end restaurant as well as a relaxed venue for private events, parties, corporate functions and pop-up groups After a three-year hiatus from the food industry, chef Ence Willemse has returned to the game with his new venture NCW, a contemporary restaurant and private art/lounge space in a newly renovated house on the edge of Melville.

Pablo Eggs-Go-Bar This one is for early bird and late risers. Order your eggs your way, get your health on with any of our fresh pressed juices and enjoy the rustic decor that Pablos offers in the buzzing community on 7th. Really enjoyed the food here. A plethora of playful interpretations of eggs benedict. Packed full of flavour. Prepared to precise texture. Impressive! Good service. The only criticism would be the lack of temperature control (got quite hot especially with midday breakfast being served). Otherwise superb! This place after 3 years still has queues outside at 11am on a Saturday morning, so that should be good enough reason to give 5 stars. It is an institution by now, top of main street Melville. The eggs are as good as ever and with a name like Eggs-go-bar, what else do you expect but egg dishes. The long communal tables inside are a nice touch if you cannot get table seating. The staff are attentive and the service good. Will be back again.

Our menu options cater to vegetarians, vegans and meat lovers alike at reasonable prices. Our dishes are freshly prepared from quality spices imported from Ethiopia and locally sourced naturally grown ingredients, raised and grown without pesticides or antibiotics. We aim to introduce Ethiopian food to the broader public like other mainstream food that anyone can come in and eat at any time. Ask anybody, ―What does Africa mean to you?‖ and you‘re likely to provoke a strong response – good or bad. The truth is, Africa is not a continent that plays small or goes halfway, it is bold, unapologetic and wonderfully diverse. The world in a continent, Africa is many things to many people, but ultimately it is home when we acknowledge its significance as the birthplace of civilisation.

Tulia Zanzibar Unique Beach Resort Our independent resort was opened in 2015 however, the story begins in 2005, when the Czech owners decided to start their Zanzibar adventure with one goal in mind: to offer accommodation and service that will set the standard for luxury and elegance on Zanzibar Island. When personally designing the resort, they decided to build only 16 villas, to ensure maximum privacy and individual service. Their wish was to incorporate traditional Zanzibari pavilions with chic, modern elements, garden and ocean views, all filled with soft, natural light. When buiding the resort, the owners' wish was to give people jobs, instead of using machines. They have used as much local material, resources and manpower as possible. Some of the people working on the construction site are still working with us today. Tulia Zanzibar Unique Beach Resort * is located on the East coast of Zanzibar Island, at the famous Pongwe Beach, 39 km away from Zanzibar City. The resort was opened in 2015 and during it's only 2 years of activity, it was granted important awards in the Hotel Industry. In 2017, the resort was awarded the title of TripAdvisor Excellency based on our Guests' reviews.
