From the Head of School Dear Friends, I am pleased to share that The Wellington School continues to inspire and empower students for future success. Our school community has raised over $1 million this year in support of fearless learning. Parents, grandparents, teachers, administrators, and alumni have all shown their dedication to providing Wellington students access to unparalleled experiences in academics, athletics, and the arts. One Wellington. One Day. One Goal. and Arts Premiere once again exceeded expectations by raising a combined total of more than $310,000. Funding from these events contributed to campus renovations, the purchase of innovative learning tools, and engagement grants that encouraged faculty members to challenge the traditional educational model. Major gifts from Wellington families also played a large part in our school’s standing at the forefront of independent education. By contributing restricted funds, these donors made it possible for the school to purchase two new vans and a gymnasium sound system, as well as build a “Classroom of the Future” and a Wellington Research Laboratory. Without question, all of these improvements will lead to the lifelong advancement of our students. As you look through the pages of this annual report, you will find examples of the profound impact your donations have had on our school. On May 1, The Wellington School community raised over $136,000 with 262 new gifts, increased parent participation by 20%, and nearly doubled alumni participation in the Annual Fund. Donations to the Wellington Annual Fund go directly to support our students as they discover and develop their unique potential. Wellington’s Grand-est Day A tradition dating back to Wellington’s opening, Grandparents and Special Friends Day gives an insider’s look at student life. Visitors were welcomed in the Borror Gym by Assistant Head of School Laura Cooke ’90 P ’21 ’21 ’24 ’27 and Student Body President Mallory Tannous ’14. The 2014 Grandparents and Special Friends Day Chairs Robert and Susan Thompson shared their favorite Wellington moments with their grandchildren and how much the school has meant to their family. A program highlighting the great work students had done this year was followed by classroom visits where attendees learned more about a day in the life at The Wellington School. | 8

Visiting Guest Artist Experience Funds raised at Wellington’s annual Arts Premiere allow students to have access to collaborative experiences with visiting guest artists. Upper School students worked with OSU professor Todd Slaughter during their class focused on the interdisciplinary nature of contemporary sculpture. Local artist Michael Liscano collaborated with lower and middle school students to create a large outdoor installation depicting The Wellington School’s mission to cultivate each student’s unique potential. Transformative opportunities like these are only possible through the generous support of Arts Premiere donations.

Arts Premiere Steps Into the Past The 2014 Arts Premiere event “Wellington Goes Gatsby” was a fabulous fundraiser, generating more than $175,000 in support of school programs and students. Event chairs Kim Clark P ’21 ’23 ’26 and Jen Thompson P ’22 ’23 ’26 ’28, with the help of many dedicated parent volunteers, brought the classic novel “The Great Gatsby” to life for an evening filled with Jazz Age gaiety and merriment. Presenting sponsors Rick and Sara Mershad P ’12 ‘13 ’15 ’17 helped to make the special night possible. The event was a fantastic opportunity for members of the school community to provide Wellington students a future of their dreams.

Major Gifts Provide for the Future
Major gifts are essential to making The Wellington School a world-class facility for fearless learning. This year, school administrators were able to make great strides in furthering Wellington’s dedication to promoting student engagement with the support of generous donations from likeminded families. A major gift from Brian Kelleher and Barbara Rae P ’18 made it possible for the school to create a “Classroom of the Future” where students will work in an innovative environment that promotes more highly engaged learning. Ted and Carol Manley P ’21 ’24 provided the funding for the furniture in the dynamic space. Scott and Kerstin Humphrys P ’20 ’22 made a major gift that enabled the school to purchase two vans so that small groups of students may travel more efficiently to offsite excursions. The Humphrys’ gift will also help with the construction of the new Wellington Research Laboratory. | 17

Faculty Awarded Engagement Grants Wellington distinguishes itself as a thought leader in education by not only encouraging students to follow their passions but their teachers as well. This year marked a new initiative for faculty members to pursue an area of interest that would also encourage greater student engagement in the learning process. Examples included Outdoor Learning Classroom, Early Childhood Pedagogy, and Measuring Student Engagement in Classrooms. By awarding these grants, Wellington remains dedicated to creating an environment in which teachers and students alike are inspired to push themselves far beyond the commonplace.

Given the economic climate of recent years, it is more important than ever to provide solid financial management. With the experience and knowledge of the business office staff, every dollar is maximized and the school’s financial position remains strong and stable. The Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees works cooperatively with the business office staff to assure prudent fiscal management and to provide focus and assistance to the school in realizing its short-term and long-term financial goals.
