Christo V. Javacheff - Bulgarian-American ( 1935 - )

Christo’s early experiments in assemblage led to his trademark device of wrapping familiar objects in cloth and other materials, giving them an artificial skin that simultaneously conceals, reveals, and transforms them. In his printed editions, Christo often includes collage, and ‘wraps’ objects. Christo’s print work has been included in museum exhibitions and are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Tate Gallery in London, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Sam Nhlengethwa - South Africn ( 1955 - ) Sam Nhlengethwa studied at Rorkes Drift and the Johannesburg Art Foundation and was awarded the Standard Bank Young Artist of the Year award in 1994. In his prints and paintings Sam Nhlengethwa uses overlays of techniques such as collage, painting, drawing and photography.


Paul Blomkamp - South Africn ( 1949 - ) At age ten Blomkamp’s’s hero was Paul Klee. Not so much because of his beautiful paintings but because of a few simple words he said: “I am here to make the invisible visible”. His paintings are about energy, invisible energy which he sees move and sparkle around him, just as surely as he sees the sun dancing on the surface of the sea.

Norman Catherine - South African ( 1949 - )

Norman Catherine is one of South Africa’s leading contemporary artists, having earned a solid reputation as critic of the apartheid regime, and educator and promoter of black artists As both a sculptor and painter, Catherine works in an assortment of media, often incorporating surrealistic elements into his work, using humour with a dark overtone to confront the horrors of apartheid.
