A Special Youth in Philanthropy Celebration 2020/2021
1
United by Resilience When I think of our 2021 theme, “United by Resilience,” my mind wanders to my experiences earlier this year, which taught me the true meaning of this phrase. I was in the presence of community leaders, people who have refused to allow a pandemic to stop them from fulfilling their missions. Asking representatives from charitable organizations across Winnipeg questions about their successes, struggles, and goals shed light on the charity’s unique initiatives. The quality that each of these people shared, however, was an everlasting determination to continue to help our city flourish. Exhibiting resilience is a powerful tool in itself, but when individuals use their resilience to connect with others, that is when unity is achieved. And unity is precisely what is needed right now. I am left in awe at the thought that while my priority during the past year has been the safety of myself and my family, there are selfless individuals in our communities who recognize the needs of others before their own. For this reason, the people that I have met through Youth in Philanthropy are the most compelling embodiments of united by resilience. To say that YiP has taught me about the work of organizations in the city would be an understatement; it has inspired me to better my community and has opened my eyes to the urgency with which we must take action. – Rhea Gupta, St. John’s-Ravenscourt YiPper –

2020 Endowment Fund Values Did you know each committee has its own endowment fund invested with The Winnipeg Foundation? In addition to the base $5,000 your committee has to grant each year, you can grant even more by growing your endowment fund. When you give to your school’s endowment, The Foundation will match that gift dollar-for-dollar (for a total match of up to $500 each year). The more you give to your endowment fund, the more grants you can make, and the more you help our community. Fund Name

About YiP The Winnipeg Foundation’s Youth in Philanthropy (YiP) program is made possible thanks to the generosity of donors from all walks of life who make gifts through The Foundation. YiP was established in 1999 to introduce local high school students to philanthropy and community development. The program provides hands-on experience that benefits participating students and local charities alike. It also brings valuable
