Fungus Creates Foot Frustrations! Many are horrified to find that their toenails are yellow, discolored and thickened after taking off our summer polish! In the majority of cases, the discoloration and thickening is due to a fungal infection of the nail and nail bed. The nails also can become rough and crumbly, or can separate from the nail bed. Twenty three million people are affected by nail fungus in the United States. Many well known therapies are costly with poor results. Laser Light Therapy in now available, and clinical studies show it kills nail fungus for a majority of patients. How does the nail fungus laser work? A toenail fungus laser works by shining a focused beam of light into a toenail infected with fungus. The laser penetrates the toenail and vaporizes fungus embedded in the nail bed and nail plate where toenail fungus exists. Is nail laser treatment painful? The focused, targeted laser light beam will have no effect on healthy tissue and will only target the infected areas. A patient should experience no discomfort. There is no need to suffer. there now is a solution to treating thick, discolored nails, laser light therapy. This treatment has been shown to effectively treat onychomycosis (toenail fungus) in clinical and in-office trials, and uses invisible infrared beams to safely treat fungal nails with no pain or adverse side effects. Unlike current oral medications used to treat nail fungus, laser light therapy requires no liver testing and is safe for most diabetics and pregnant women. July / August 2013

So, Advertisers - IMOO… In my opinion only – Businesses get new and repeat customers through educational advertising...... period. If you do no advertising, you will get no leads. And the type of advertising you do will determine the type of customers that you will attract. Cancer Rehab in the Continuum of Care The program’s specialized services include functional capacity evaluations, a driving screen, nutritional counseling, pain management and therapy for vestibular/balance disorders and memory deficits related to cancer treatment. Another critical component of cancer rehabilitation provided at HealthSouth is Lymphedema Therapy, including Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD); compression bandaging (wrapping); remedial exercise; and patient education. And Medicare and most insurance companies are covering such services.
Cancer, and the treatments for cancer, can have a significant impact on daily life. When we consider cancer care, we think of things like surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. But there’s another critical component – one that can help cancer survivors return to life after treatment: rehabilitation.
In a study of 1,325 cancer patients with the ten most prevalent cancers, 63% reported the need for at least one rehabilitation service, 43% reported the need for physical therapy (most frequently reported need), and 40% reported unmet needs.*
For more information, contact HealthSouth’s Pleasant Gap Outpatient Clinic at (814) 359-5630. You can also learn more by visiting www.nittanyvalleyrehab.com *Thorsen L., et al. Cancer patients’ needs for rehabilitation services. Acta Oncologica (2011).
Lymphedema Services
In the Centre region, HealthSouth Nittany Valley Rehabilitation Hospital is meeting those rehabilitation needs. The hospital’s Outpatient Clinic in Pleasant Gap has an interdisciplinary therapy program that provides compassionate, comprehensive rehabilitation for cancer survivors. “Comprehensive cancer services can help speed recovery, shorten hospital stays and improve quality of life,” says HealthSouth CEO Susan Hartman. “Our program focuses on individual and family needs to improve the patients’ functional abilities, provide ongoing psychosocial support, educate the patient and family/caregivers about the rehabilitation process, and provide follow-up and referrals to other resources which support the patient’s continued recovery.” Those resources may focus on wellness, nutrition, transportation, education and community and caregiver support.
Are Now Here Treatment is now available for lymphedema at our comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation clinic attached to the Nittany Valley Rehabilitation Hospital in Pleasant Gap.

HealthSouth Nittany Valley outpatient therapists are also enrolled in the STAR (Survivorship Training and Rehab) Clinician® Certification, the gold standard in cancer rehab for hospitals that offer multidisciplinary survivorship care. “This certification will enable our therapists to help cancer survivors function at the highest level possible,” says Hartman.

A Very Special 2nd Wednesday NEW Meet a proud member of the 1953 Rockford Peaches women’s professional baseball team, Sarah “Salty” Sands Ferguson, at a very special NEW gathering August 14 at Medlar Field in Lubrano Park. She’s in a “league of her own” – a 78-year-old former Girl’s Professional Baseball League player with plenty of pep and stories to tell. “It was a fantastic opportunity to do what I loved, and get paid for it,” Salty said. “When I was in school, there wasn’t much for us girls – just a year of varsity basketball. How I wish they had girls’ field hockey back then.” Sarah always played sports with the boys and was a bat girl for a men’s team. “If the boys were going to get a game together and couldn’t find me – though I don’t know how that could be in a town with only two streets – they’d go to my house and let my mom know where they’d be playing.” When baseball league owners created the All-American Girls’ Professional Baseball League, Salty was still in grade school. She joined up as soon as she could, accepted as a catcher and right fielder for the Rockford Peaches in 1954 at the age of 19. The league only lasted another year, but Salty is still spreading the word of this historic age in women’s sports. The 1992 movie, A League of their Own, starring Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, and Madonna, was made about this mid-west league of women players – with team names like South Blend Blue Sox, Racine Belles, and Kalamazoo Lassies. “Thank heavens for that movie,” she said, “or no one would know about us.” A Bloomsburg High grad, Salty still lives in her hometown of Orangeville, PA and is active with the Baseball Hall of Fame and spreading the history of the league. Before her August appearance in State College, she’ll be at the dedication of the new stadium in Scranton and making an appearance in Philadelphia. “We did it for the love of the game,” she said, “not the money. It’s not like now, when it’s all about the money. For us, it was a labor of love.”

Never Ignore the Genetics of Breast Cancer Recently, the news was full of talk about breast cancer and the BRCA genes when the actress Angelina Jolie announced that she had a bilateral mastectomy after testing positive for a mutation of this gene. The BRCA 1 and 2 genes when mutated can predict the “hereditary breast-ovarian cancer syndrome” which is associated with an 80% risk of breast cancer in a women’s lifetime. Fortunately, less than 5% of patients with breast cancer have this gene so most don’t need to be tested. To determine who needs to be tested for this gene mutation you must look at the family genetics. The likelihood of having the gene rises with the more first degree relatives who develop breast cancer at an early age. In this setting, the family member with breast cancer should be tested. If positive, the mutated gene sequence is identified and others in the family can be tested by simply looking at the same area on their own DNA. There is a 50% chance of having the mutation if a parent is positive. If you come from a family with a BRCA mutation knowing your gene status is lifesaving! Unfortunately, in my breast cancer surgery practice I have on many occasions had to treat patients for breast cancers when they already knew they had the BRCA mutation or their family had the mutation and the patient just never got tested. Several of the patients have had advanced breast cancer and required aggressive treatment always wondering whether their cancer would come back. In these families, breast cancer can be avoided. Having the simple blood test can be and often is life saving. Patients can undergo prophylactic mastectomy with or without immediate reconstruction and their risk essentially goes away. They also have to decide about the risk of ovarian cancer, but it is not nearly as high as that of breast cancer. Patients should also be aware that the gene mutation can be passed on by either parent. There are also certain ethnic groups who have a very high association with the mutation and this must be considered in clinical decisions. In my surgical practice, the BRCA mutation test is an important clinical tool. If a patient presents at an early age with a breast cancer and has other family members who had the same problem, gene testing will determine the proper approach to their care. Before entertaining radiation therapy, the gene test is performed. If positive, then mastectomy is the only good therapy alternative. If a patient were to have a lumpectomy and radiation therapy and then find out that they are gene positive, reconstruction of the breast becomes must more difficult in the radiated field. My advice to all women with a family with a known BRCA gene mutation is to get tested immediately. Do not ignore this real danger. The test is not expensive because they look at only the specific mutation for the family. If negative you and you children are at no higher risk for breast cancer than the general public. If positive you should see a breast surgeon as soon as possible. If you delay and develop a breast cancer, it is too late. I read it in the Women’s Journal!

Tips From Camille Want that Glow on your Wedding Day? W W W. C R E
DO • Prepare your skin in advance with facials – but avoid any treatments within two weeks of your wedding day. • Consult an aesthetician to create a plan for getting your skin on track based on your specific goals and skin type. • Maintain your health! Beauty comes from the inside out so get adequate sleep, exercise, eat a balanced diet, and watch your stress levels. DON’T • Visit tanning beds! They prematurely damage and age your skin, leaving you with a muddy appearance that doesn’t photograph well. If you want some color on your wedding day, consider self-tanners and bronzers that offer more control. • Experiment with new products close to your wedding day – including detergents, shampoos, makeup – especially if you have sensitive skin to avoid rashes and reactions to ingredients.

areolas when a double mastectomy is necessary. Today many women choose to have nipple/areola tattooing because it is less invasive than tissue grafting, heals quickly and looks most natural when applied by an expert. Soft tissue can be unpredictable and so the breast mounds and/or scars can be constant reminders of cancer. Areola Restoration can create a beautiful, symmetrical and natural-looking nipple-areola complex. Clients feel that Areola Tattooing provides the esthetic "finishing touch" after breast surgery that helps them to focus on "living" giving them a renewed sense of confidence and esteem.

That Just Does Not Make Sense Anymore?
EliminInk Tattoo Removal is a unique system utilizing the latest binding technology for safe removal of unwanted tattoos. There are numerous reasons for the use of EliminInk in removing Tattoos, such as permanent makeup corrections, unwanted name, gang related tattoos, tattoo markings for radiation, tattoo redesign, or impulsive decisions. These are only a few reasons. EliminInk is designed to bond with the original tattoo ink/pigment, and then draw the ink to the surface. DermRenu, a scar inhibitor which is built into the ElininInk solution (as well as being a stand-alone product that is used as part of the after-care program) is designed to minimize or prevent scarring. How it works and will it be painful? The Eliminink Tattoo Removal System works much like the original tattooing process. The EliminInk solution is applied using a tattoo over procedure. However, instead of applying ink or pigment this time, EliminInks specially formulated solution bond with the original tattoo ink, and then draws the ink to the skin's surface. You will have some pain associated with this procedure, no more than when you got the tattoo, so if removing a tattoo is what you want then you will have to endure it.

Café Amelia’s Cold Beet Soup at the Café on the L Park by Kim Kowalczyk
ooking for something colorful and refreshing this summer that features local produce? Try this summertime treat, chilled beet soup — the Polish version of gazpacho.
The Café owes this recipe to my Polish grandmother, who always served this traditional sweet-and-sour cold “borsht” with steaming hot potatoes and a slices of fresh baked bread
While her recipe calls for canned beets, I prefer to use fresh beets from the farmers’ market! If you opt for fresh beets, I suggest wearing vinyl gloves to protect your hands from turning beet red! I peel and chop the raw beets and add just enough water to cover. Cook for about 30–45 minutes, until fork tender. The resulting beet juice is much darker than store-bought canned beets, and adds a depth of color and flavor you’re sure to enjoy! Beets (1 pint jar or can) • Several small cucumbers • Vinegar — 7 Tablespoons • Sour cream — 1–2 Tablespoons • Ice cubes and cold water Drain beet juice into pan. Cut beets and cucumbers in small squares, and add to pan. Stir in vinegar. Add 1 cup cold water and 1 tray of ice cubes. Put in refrigerator to sit for an hour. Stir in sour cream just before serving.

Pulling It All Together By Judy Loy, ChFC® and CEO of Nestlerode & Loy, Inc.
account returned 8% compounded interest. Without adding any additional funds, the account would grow to $19,109. If you took the opportunity and added $100 a month to the IRA for that same time frame and same compound return, your account would be worth a nice $290,749 at age 65. The power of compounding clearly shows that keeping the money inside a retirement account is the smarter move for the long term. Many larger companies match contributions to retirement accounts or provide profit sharing with company stock. It’s wonderful to get the match and additional funds into retirement accounts but getting overloaded in any one security is a bad idea for retirement planning. Moving the money into an IRA and moving away from an overabundance of employer stock is a common sense objective to saving toward retirement. Pulling together the myriad of retirement accounts into one IRA can help track overall performance, provide the opportunity for a more comprehensive investment plan and just make the upkeep (address changes, investment changes) much easier to manage. You can do this yourself or with the assistance of an advisor. One of the more important things to consider when moving an employer’s retirement account is to move it directly to an IRA or other retirement plan. This keeps the money tax-deferred, which is a major advantage of all qualified retirement accounts. To weigh the pros and cons of Individual Retirement Accounts versus company retirement, consult with an advisor for more details on the best fit for you.
In my 21 years in the business, I have helped to find lost accounts, replaced lost certificates and tracked down old employers to salvage retirement accounts. Many people leave a job and leave behind their retirement accounts. Since the average worker stays at his or her job 4.4 years according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this can add up over the years to many separate retirement accounts. Millennials, the term for our newest working generation, only expect to stay at a job for less than three years. Currently, the average number of jobs in a lifetime is 11.4 for men and 10.7 for women. Many retirement plans, particularly 403b plans, require human resources or the employer to sign to have the account transferred or money sent out from the account. When companies are taken over or go out of business, it can be hard for a plan recipient to obtain custody of their assets at a later date. When you leave a job, it is imperative to move any retirement plans to an IRA or to a new employer’s retirement plan to reduce problems in locating these assets. LIFE AFTER MENOPAUSE By Dr. Farag Salama, Susquehanna Health OB/GYN
What is menopause? Menopause is a common stage of a woman’s life often referred to as “the change of life.” Menopause occurs when a woman’s body produces less estrogen and progesterone. The average age of menopause in the United States is around 51 years old; however it may occur at a younger or older age. Other factors that can affect menopausal age include smoking, exposure to chemotherapy or radiotherapy (especially of the pelvic area) and surgical removal of the ovaries.
How can I stay healthy after menopause? Staying healthy after menopause is important and healthy lifestyle changes can make it easier. Here are some tips for staying healthy after menopause:
not smoke. ■■ Eat a healthy balanced diet. ■■ Make sure you get enough calcium and vitamin D. ■■ Perform weight-bearing exercises three times per week for bone health. ■■ Learn about your healthy weight and try to maintain it. ■■ Get regular screenings including Signs and symptoms of menopause: mammograms, pap smears and bone A woman’s body is estrogendensity tests. dependent. Your heart and bones after menopause: Women tend to lose calcium after menopause which increases the chance of osteoporosis, the thinning of bones. Women are encouraged to talk to their doctors after menopause to see if they are at risk for osteoporosis and to check bone densities. Women may also have abnormally high cholesterol levels after menopause that put them at higher risk for heart attacks and other heart complications. Menopausal women should make sure that both their cholesterol and blood sugar levels are normal and checked regularly.

Thyroid Problem Myths Do you suffer from: • • • • • • • •
Many patients have symptoms of low thyroid for 10-20 years before being diagnosed because we are using lab values based on a sick population and not optimal ranges.
Fatigue? Cold hands/feet? Weight gain? Depression/lack of motivation? Thinning hair and eyebrows? Dryness of the skin or scalp? Difficult/infrequent bowel movements? Mental sluggishness?
Myth#2: Your thyroid is the only problem. Every cell in the body has receptors for thyroid hormone. The thyroid influences and is affected by the pituitary gland, adrenal glands, liver function, gut function, brain and nervous system, neurotransmitters, blood sugar levels and other hormones. Myth#1: You just need to learn how to live with it, The most dangerous myth of all. For many, this simply isn’t true.
Whether you have been diagnosed and treated for a thyroid problem or have long suspected that you have one, the following are some of the myths that may be preventing you from getting better.
So, what is the solution? Address the cause and in order to do that more complete testing needs to be done.
Myth #5: TSH alone is an adequate measure of thyroid function. There is NOT one study that says having a "normal" TSH rules out thyroid dysfunction. In fact, there is massive amounts of literature that demonstrate this NOT to be the case. Conservative estimates suggest that as high as 50% of hypothyroid sufferers go undiagnosed.
Why don't most doctors do more thorough testing? Because it does not affect their treatment. The only option they have is hormone replacement as dictated by your TSH (some times T4 or T3). This is the reason why many still suffer from symptoms of low thyroid.
Myth #4: Thyroid replacement (Synthroid,Levoxyl etc.) is all that is needed to address a thyroid problem. For a lot of people it does NOTHING to help their symptoms. Their TSH is up, it's down they still feel awful and they just can't get it figured out. They are made to feel like its all in their head or that how they feel is just a normal part of aging and they need to learn to "live with it". Often, each individual symptom is medicated-prilosec,anti-depressant, statin. etc.
If you want your health and quality of life to improve, you need to take a different approach from what you have done to this point.
To schedule an initial consultation/case review, call (814) 238-0232. Visit www.drthaddiehl.com to learn more about his practice. NOW ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS IN BOTH LOCATIONS.
Myth #3: Your blood work is "fine" then you are fine. Doctors have fallen into habit of treating labs instead of patients.

Landscaping
Gardening with Purpose
By Melody Aumiller of Fox Hill Gardens
you visit a nursery and get ideas, and then come up with a plant list. This will avoid unnecessary plant purchases and save your funds for choices that will really make your landscape stand out. For establishing curb appeal, this homeowner should look for colorful selections with varied texture to draw attention to their entrance area. Low maintenance plants will assure the area stays neat and attractive. A plant list that would compliment this particular home front, with symmetrical plantings on each side of the main entrance, could include these selections: Plant List FOR SUN Plant List FOR SHADE
It’s that time of year when most gardens have turned green, but they sure won’t make neighbors green with envy. “No color!” you think, as you survey your landscape that has only a few flowers left after the bulbs and spring flowers have faded. “No design!” friends notice as they visit your house. “Too much work!” thinks your husband as he goes out into the summer heat to trim the remnant hedge of pervious homeowners – again. There’s a way to have the landscape you want, but to reach that goal, you have to have a plan. Like a room in your home – kitchen or bedroom- your outdoor space serves a purpose. It’s up to you to decide what that purpose is! Do you want a butterfly garden or one that attracts hummingbirds? How about improving your biggest investment with a gorgeous landscape for shear curb appeal, to increase salability and value, or simply for your own enjoyment and satisfaction. Do you crave a private outdoor room for entertaining and family time, or a calming, tranquil place to unwind with a book and a cup of tea? Establish a purpose for your yard and then make a plan to reach that goal. Here’s an example of one homeowner’s action plan to increase curb appeal.
2 Dwarf Alberta Spruce 6 ‘Knockout Double Red’ Rose shrubs 6 ‘Elijah Blue’ Fescue 6 ‘Blue Star’ Juniper 10 ‘Stella D’oro’ Lily 10 ‘Pistache’ Heuchera 6 ‘Munstead’ English Lavender
PURPOSE: Make property look more attractive and inviting from the street. Add more color and highlight the traditional symmetrical Georgian architecture, contrast with white painted brick exterior.
‘Quickfire’ Hydrangea ‘Honeymaid’ Holly ‘Rainbow’ Leucothoe ‘Aureola’ Japanese Forest Grass ‘Fanal’ Astilbe ‘Blue Angel’ Hosta ‘Blue Clips’ Campanula
Add a few charming accents such as a garden bench, bird bath, arbor or pots of colorful perennials near the front door and the end result is an entrance to be proud of! Does this type of project still seem overwhelming? Full service garden centers like Fox Hill Gardens are the best place to find the expertise you can rely on. Ask about an on site consultation, custom design, or partial or complete landscape installation. It’s never too late to enjoy your yard and have the outdoor living space you’ve always dreamed of, and Fox Hill Gardens is here to help.
CHALLENGES: Overgrown bushes hide 1st story of house. No color, no variety. PLAN OF ACTION: Step1 – Severely trim or remove overgrown shrubs and other plantings. Step 2 – Shape and crisply edge planting area, amend soil for new plantings Step 3 – Visit nursery and research plant material. Include evergreens for winter interest. Choose low maintenance shrubs and perennial for color/texture all summer. Allow for plants to grow and take note of maximum size the plants will reach. Make plant list. Step 4 – Sketch entrance garden where plants will be situated, finalize plant list. Step 5 – Purchase plants, arrange where they will be planted. Adjust as needed. Step 6 – Install plantings and mulch, keep watered until established.
Visit Fox Hill Gardens for all of your planting needs! We are a full service plant nursery and landscaping business providing consultation, design, installation and maintenance for over 23 years. We specialize in shade and native plants, and have a wide selection of Japanese maples and unusual evergreens, trees, shrubs, perennials and select fruit trees and plants, herbs, vegetable seedlings, pond plants, annuals…mulch and fertilizers, too. In this example, you see how to logically address a landscape challenge and implement a plan. Making a list will help you streamline the process that gets you from point A (a disappointing landscape) to point B (one that fulfills your needs). Moving? What Next? You have a good job with a national company. However, your company decides that they want to shut down your office or manufacturing plant and move you to another state. Or maybe, your new boyfriend or current husband has already decided that he wants to move out of state to maintain his job or take advantage of a promising new career opportunity. The father of your only children has a stable job and he is not moving. And his parenting time with the children is about one-half of the time and most certainly has no desire to give up his parenting time. You must decide: Do you leave the state and the children behind with their father? Or do you look for a new job and/or lose your current partner? It is lose-lose situations like this that make “relocation” cases one of the most difficult and acrimonious issues in a divorce.
nearly all their summer and vacations away from their primary home. Preteens and teens especially balk at leaving friends, sports teams or jobs, while young children may be homesick. Ultimately, the parent whose children are allowed to move sacrifices not only quantity of time, but the more casual, day-to-day interactions such as sports games and school visits. Conversely, a moving parent should expect to give up most of a child's vacation time, as well as share transportation costs if not bear all of the transportation costs. Relocation of minor children is something that cannot be taken lightly. The potential impact on the children must be examined from every possible perspective before jumping into the murky waters of relocation cases. Call the Law Offices of Lance T. Marshall at 814308-8439 or e-mail me at ltm@statcollegefamilylawyer.com for an experienced, professional and understanding analysis of your case.
Pennsylvania law sets forth that a parent may relocate to another state with the minor children if the Court determines the move is in the best interests of the minor children. This is where things get murky – as there are twenty plus factors that a judge must consider in determining whether or not such move is in the best interest of the minor children. This includes the strength of the child's relationship with both parents, the financial impact and the child's quality of life in Pennsylvania versus their proposed new location.
We are committed to the thorough understanding of your legal goals. With this understanding, we can develop a practical strategy and provide sound advice so that the impact of these events will be minimized and you can go on with your life with the least amount of obstacles blocking your new path.
The burden of proof is upon the moving parent to prove that such a move is in the best interest of the child – not solely the parent. This is often a difficult burden to overcome – especially when the kids have been living in Pennsylvania for quite some time and have developed a peer network and are doing well in their current school. Relocation cases are amongst the hardest cases for judges to decide as there is often no right answer. In the usual custody case, when arguing over parenting time or a parenting plan, one or two overnights per month is not going to have a huge impact on the overall case. But when a judge says, 'Yes, you can move,' or 'No, you can't,' that impacts the Mother or Father significantly – as well as the minor children. The outcome of these cases are hard to predict. You can give the courts a number of factors to consider, but you never know how it’s going to strike a particular judge.
Do You Have More Questions? Contact the Law Offices of Lance T. Marshall at 814-308-8439 or e-mail ltm@statecollegefamilylawyer.com
If a move is challenged, parents may face an intensive court hearing with battling research and comparisons of school districts and neighborhoods. In many respects, this becomes like a second custody trial.
Child Custody • Paternity • Child & Spousal Support Protection From Abuse • Grandparents Rights Adoption • Equitable Distribution • And More
Any parent should give pause before moving ahead with a relocation case. Whether allowed or not, children may have to deal with extensive travel, awkward transitions to the other parent's home and spending

A. L. went to Dr. Robert Louton for an upper-arm lift, which removed much of the sagging skin on the underside of her upper arms. Nearly two months after the surgery, A. L. says she is happy with the way her arms look, and she can finally wear shirts without long sleeves.

In 2000, only 300 American women had an upper-arm lift — typically an outpatient surgical procedure known as brachioplasty — but the operation's popularity has skyrocketed in recent years. According to new statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 15,000 women got the surgery in 2012, an increase of more than 4,000 percent. A recent poll by the society suggested that a desire for the toned, sleek arms of some celebrities, such as Michelle Obama and Jennifer Aniston is fueling this trend. But Dr. Louton and his patients cite other reasons for the surgery, namely shaping saggy arms after significant weight loss.
Although upper-arm lifts aren't nearly as common as tummy tucks and breast surgeries, Louton says he is doing many more brachioplasties than several years ago and patients are delighted with their results. "It's very rewarding for me to see my patients smiling and wearing tank tops or sleeveless shirts at their return appointments . “The majority of brachioplasty patients have lost large amounts of weight, whether on their own or through bariatric surgery”, says Dr. Robert Louton, board certified plastic surgeon of Blair Plastic Surgery in Altoona and State College. “After being heavy for so long, the skin loses its elastic properties, and will not remodel well.” The upper arms often contain extra skin and can be a pocket for body fat. Tricep exercises can help tone and eliminate fat in that area, but it can't eliminate extra skin. The best candidates for this surgery are close to their ideal body weight, are realistic in their expectations and just want to look the best they can. About 90 percent of brachioplasty patients are female, ranging from 20 to 70s — which the majority between the ages of 30 to 50.

Mother and Daughter Say Their Permanent Makeup Results Are Worth the Travel
Permanent makeup is the unique art of applying pigment into the dermal layer of skin, simulating conventional cosmetics with a very natural look and a long lasting effect. This procedure also known as cosmetic tattooing has been around for decades and Lorie Litzinger, owner of Secrets by Lorie knows her business well and is committed to being among the best in the field. See what a few of her clients say below: I can’t begin to tell you how pleased I am with my permanent cosmetics. I have always been so self conscious of my minimal eyebrows and in my lifetime I have spent more time using an eye brow pencil than I care to think about. The ultimate decision to have permanent eyebrows done came after much research. I want to let you know that you have changed my life, as a Registered Nurse I come into contact with so many patients and have never felt more confident in my appearance. The compliments from co-workers and friends are truly amazing...which led me to have my eyeliner done...so very pleased and happy, would recommend you to anyone considering permanent cosmetics! Thank you again for all you have done for me, I feel amazing. — Donna, Middleburg, PA

I had been wanting to have permanent makeup applied for quite a while but didn’t know where to go. I was referred to Lorie Litzinger by a former patient, who in her 70s, had perfect eyeliner done by Lorie. I checked the website, www.secretsbylorie. com, and was immediately sold by her education, experience and most importantly the quality of work, . When I mentioned this to my mom, she was interested, too. So as we plotted the 3 hour trip up to her salon, we did realize that there were plenty of places closer to our homes in Maryland. After doing additional research, I could not find a place that was comparable to Lorie’s work. I am quite particular and I can say her work is extraordinary and I’m thrilled with the decision I made for my mom and myself to travel to Bellefonte PA. She was great to work with and coordinated an appointment time to accommodate our schedules and traveling, When we arrived we were even more amazed at the warm welcome that we received, the professionalism and cleanliness of the salon. Our results are amazing and this secret is one to be shared...and I do. I receive so many compliments on my permanent makeup and I hope she has receives just as many new clients. I cannot say enough good things about the entire experience we had and Lorie is a complete joy of a person. — Trish T., Fallston, Maryland Consultations are FREE!
If your daily makeup routine is getting old or getting difficult, if you find yourself checking your makeup throughout the day, the solution could be permanent cosmetics. It’s common, it’s safe and looks much better than an eyebrow or eyeliner pencil. It’s not just for the stars anymore. It’s affordable. Professionally applied permanent eyeliner, eyebrows, or lip color costs between $300 and $600, and will last for years. A refresh in a few years will keep your makeup crisp and looking good for even more years. It’s a small price to pay for something so lasting and convenient to your everyday life. Real Estate
Summer Heat Things are heating up in central Pennsylvania, including the local real estate market. Apparently people have been noticing what a good time it is for real estate and deciding to act as things have been getting hot.
consider so it is clearly a good time to buy. If you are considering any kind of real estate transaction purchase, sell, investment, upscale, down-size, build - conditions now are as hot as they are going to get. Local conditions will vary so you will want to talk with a local Realtor to assess your situation, but these are very good times for real estate in central Pennsylvania.
Last year the market stabilized and began to build some momentum. This year the trend is continuing and the financial institutions are becoming more willing to make loans at rates that are still incredibly low. Buying or selling real estate at this time makes a lot of sense (cents?).
•- from CCAR MLS statistics
The number of properties sold so far this year is up 10% from last year’s rising figures, as well as a significant increase in the number of homes under an agreement of sale. The ratio of sale price vs. list price is very strong throughout Centre County.* This has led many to claim that this is a Seller’s market. However, it is also a good time to be a Buyer.
Please call or email me if you want to talk about your situation.

Interest rates are very low and should remain so for a while. They are beginning to creep up and will continue to for some time, but it is not likely that we will see large jumps. Prices have increased from last year and should continue to do so for the foreseeable future. We have begun to see properties going quickly and having multiple offers to

You’ve Heard Of The Extreme Makeover… This is The Extreme Makeover For Your Smile In Yes……..As Little As 3 Months Fa s t b r a c e s Technology allows for movement of the roots of the teeth towards their final positions from the beginning of treatment by torquing them from the very first appointment. Patients can Nicole now get results often with less sensitivity, in about Carnicella DMD, MAGD a year, and in some cases, just a few months. It has been developed and tested over the past 20 years and is now becoming available in countries around the world. Fastbraces Technology is fast, safe, easy and affordable treatment that comes with a lifetime satisfaction commitment from the doctor providers. With the patented triangular design of the braces, cutting edge techniques and a special heat-activated wire, this new technology is revolutionizing the field of orthodontics. Traditional braces move teeth into position two stages, usually over a period of about two years. In the first year, the crown of the tooth is moved into alignment. In the second year, treatment addresses the position of the root of the tooth. However, the brackets used with Fastbraces work on a different mechanical principle altogether. The patented system uses an innovative bracket and a specially-shaped wire to correct the position of the root of the tooth, from the beginning of treatment. This combination is key in realigning the root and crown simultaneously. The Fastbraces Technology brackets have an elevated slot and a unique elbow design. The shape of the bracket is critical because it literally changes the force-flexibility equation. The square shape of conventional brackets defines the distance between the brackets and that distance determines the flexibility of the wire. However, the triangular shape of the Fastbraces patented bracket, with its elevated slot, typically increases the distance between the individual brackets, which increases the flexibility of the wire. Additionally, the “elbows” of the bracket help deliver torquing and tipping forces to the root from the beginning of treatment. These fundamental differences allow treatment to be completed in about a year, or as little as 3 months in select cases. For the consumer looking for an aesthetic cosmetic solution, Fastbraces Clear ceramic brackets are also available and offer the same technology advantages of moving teeth as the Fastbraces metal brackets. Twenty (20) years of history, thousands of consecutively treated I read it in the Women’s Journal!
patients and university research have shown that Fastbraces are not only safe but offer many additional benefits. Patients oftentimes experience less discomfort and these are no more risks with Fastbraces than those associated with traditional braces. Additionally, the fact that the braces are on for less time means that there is possibly less chance of tooth decay due to improper oral hygiene. Treatment with Fastbraces Technology improves the patient’s lifestyle because treatment typically takes just a few visits at the doctor’s office. Less doctor visits mean less money spent, less gas used getting to and from the doctor’s office and less time off school or work. Another remarkable benefit is the reduction of retainer usage. When the braces come off one needs to wear the retainers only 15 minutes a day in the shower, cleverly described as Fastbraces “Tooth Shampoo”. Results may vary for each patient.

Summertime Calls For Bold Jewelry! • Keep your jewelry in a fabric-lined jewelry case, or in a box with compartments and dividers to prevent pieces from scratching each other.
Think turquoise, citrine, or amethyst pieces with a crisp white shirt! However, it is important to protect your jewelry during these warm summer months. Here are some simple tips that will keep your jewelry sparkling all summer long:
• After the season bring it in to Miska’s and we will clean it to maintain the luster and sparkle of your precious baubles.
• Remove all jewelry before going into a hot tub or swimming pool. The chlorine can damage and discolor metals such as gold and platinum and can slowly erode the finish and polish of gemstones. • Remove all jewelry before entering salt water as it can have the same effect as chlorine on your fine jewelry. • After wearing your fine jewelry, wipe it down with a clean, soft, slightly damp cloth. This will enhance the jewelry’s luster and will ensure that it is clean before storage. • Remove all jewelry before showering, cleaning, applying lotions, and sunscreen. These products cause a film to form on your jewelry, making it appear dull and dingy.

’50s – an interesting chapter in baseball history chronicled in film-maker Penny Marshall’s 1992 movie, “A League of Their Own.” With America's entry into World War II, several major league baseball executives started a new professional league with women players in order to maintain baseball in the public eye while the majority of able men were away. Initial tryouts were held at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was founded by Philip K. Wrigley and existed from 1943 to 1954. During the league's history, over 600 women played ball. Salty was one of those legendary players. Entering the league in 1953, just a year before it closed, Salty was a right fielder and catcher for the Rockford Peaches. A native of central PA and Bloomsburg-high grad, Salty played on the Illinois team coached by Johnny Rawlings, whose last appearance on the men’s diamond was with the Pirates. Active in the historic preservation of the women’s professional league and the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY, Salty still lives in her central PA hometown, Orangeville. Swimwear Care
Chlorine, sand, salt, sweat, sun and lotions all eat away at the fabric and/or fade the color of swimsuits, which is why suits need to be replaced so often. To make a bathing suit last as long as possible, rinse it with mild soap and cold water directly after each wear, then let it drip-dry, but never in the sun. Avoid harsh detergents (which make the suit stiff(, hot water (which fades the color) and dryers (which break down the Lycra and ruin the fit.

“I Have Never” pattern into a soft, tousled finish. And… She loved it! My client is now in a hair design place she has never been before, and she looks great. I’m delighted that I was able to take her there. In most cases when a client says “I have never,” it’s in relation to something that is possible, if properly done. Sometimes a client can go to her “I have never” place directly. But sometimes the change must be approached gradually. Whatever the case, “I have never” is a place a client should try at least once. What’s your “I have never” hair design place?
A new client came in the other day. She had thick mid-length hair with a strong wave formation. As we chatted she related all the things she was told she couldn’t do with her hair. She was told she couldn’t wear particular styles because of her face shape, her forehead, the thickness of her hair, the natural wave, and most recently, because of her age. Hers is not an unusual story. I began to explain all the many styles that were possible with her hair, facial shape, and bone structure. Then she hit me with my favorite phrase, “I have never.” I’ve heard “I have never” in relation to just about every conceivable aspect of hair design, cut, color, perms, etc. In this client’s case she said “I have never had short hair.” Well, that was enough for me! I just love taking clients to hair design places they have never been before. In this situation it was easy. I didn’t have to take much length off the top and sides. We did agree to bring her back length up to her hair line. I designed a close feathery area at the nape of her neck. Then, following the shape of her skull, I graduated the back up into the length on the top and sides. I shaped her top and sides to her bone structure. Finally, I texturized her hair throughout in order to break up the wave

Jezebel's Central PA's Bra Fitting Experts
Jezebel’s Boutique is located in the heart of Downtown State College and offers professional bra fitting seven days a week. We carry one of the largest selections of bras in Central PA! At Jezebel’s, we are passionate about providing excellent customer service. This is why our customers come back time and time again. In fact, women visit our store from all over the state…and many still order their bras from us by mail when they move far away. Lastly, you don’t have to feel shy or embarrassed during a bra fitting. Our friendly trained staff takes the utmost care to protect your privacy and honor your feelings. At Jezebel’s—it’s all about you. Many of our customers ask questions and we thought we would share some of them with you…
What is the best way to take care of my new bras?
Ideally, hand wash with cool water in lingerie wash. Hang or lay flat to dry. The cool water helps the fabric bounce back into shape, so more frequent washings will help the bra last. Heat will damage the fibers! Do not put your bra in the dryer! Also, avoid Woolite because it breaks down the elasticity in the bras. Forever New is a wonderfully scented powder for handwashing. Hanky Panky lingerie wash powder is also great and is not scented.
How many bras should I have and how do I know when I need new ones?
The more the merrier! Everyone should have at least three to wear regularly. One to wear, one to wash and one to rest. Wearing the same bra over and over every day means it's not going to last nearly as long as you would like it to. If you're in love with a certain style there is nothing wrong with owning more than one of them. When your bra becomes too loose after you have moved it to the tightest hook you may notice it starting to ride up in the back. You may start adjusting it as it moves around throughout the day. The straps may also become too loose and fall off your shoulders. Now is the time for a new bra.

Professional fitters know the bras they’re selling an different styles and and they’ll be able to give you bras to try on that will flatter you. This can save you a lot of time. One of the big benefits of a professional bra fitting is that you also get style advice. Some bra styles look better on certain sizes, and a professional can help you choose the one that will look best on you. They can identify problems with the way a bra fits and suggest different styles that help remedy the issue.
> > > ! E E R F >>>
How often should I be professionally fitted?
Most women should get professionally fitted once every year or so. As your body ages, and as you lose or gain weight, your shape changes. This usually affects your bra size along with everything else. It can also affect what style of bra flatters you most, so remember to always keep an open mind. July / August 2013

Treating Hearing Loss Can Improve Quality of Life The decision to get hearing help is often delayed because many are unaware that receiving early treatment for hearing loss can literally transform their lives. Research by the National Council on the Aging showed that hearing aids are clearly associated with improvements in the social, emotional, psychological, and physical well-being of people with any degree of hearing loss. Hearing loss treatment was shown to improve these quality of life issues: • Communication in relationships • Sense of control over life events • Perception of mental functioning • Warmth in family relationships • Ease in communication • Emotional stability • Physical health • Group social participation • Earning power Hearing loss treatment was shown to reduce: • Anger and frustration in relationships • Anxiety • Hearing loss compensation behaviors (i.e. pretending you hear) • Depression • Discrimination toward the person with the hearing loss
• Feelings of paranoia • Social phobias • Self-criticism
Information taken from Sergei Kochkin, Ph.D. - Better Hearing Institute, Washington, DC
If you have hearing loss, consider all the benefits of hearing aids. Hearing aids hold such great potential to positively change your life. Visit your local audiologist to see what can be done for you or your loved one.

What are Essential Oils? Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds that are found in nature within the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and leaves of plants. These oils are non-water based phytochemicals. They are very clean and absorbed quickly by the skin for medicinal purposes. Essential oils can also be used in a diffuser or as a dietary supplement. The essential oils we use in our office are from a company called doTERRA. Any additional information can also be found on their website www.doterra.com. Each aroma touch session lasts between 25-30 minutes. If you would like to schedule an appointment for aroma touch therapy or have any questions, please call our office, Hands in Health. We have been getting wonderful results. We are excited to help you feel better! One of our patients has suffered from migraine headaches for years. She is excited to report that she feels much better after having the therapy. She has been able to achieve pain relief without the strong pain medicine she was using. What is the Process of Aroma Touch Therapy? This technique is different than a deep muscle massage because the purpose is to get the oils into the skin. Oils are placed on the back and on the bottoms of the feet to be absorbed quickly. Step 1-Stress Management: Balance & Lavender Oils are used to help

calm the nervous system and to promote relaxation. Step 2-Immune Support: Melaleuca (Tea Tree) & On Guard Oils are used to help assist the immune function of the body. Step 3-Inflammatory Response: Aromatouch & Deep Blue Oils are well known to increase circulation and to soothe irritated tissues such as muscles and joints. Step 4-Homeostasis: Wild Orange & Peppermint Oils are used to help stimulate body tissues and to elevate your mood and your senses. They help to balance and to re-energize the body.
