ADULTS 55+ MONTHLY OUTLOOK

I was also blessed to visit a longtime ministry partner, Agape in Action, a ministry started by a member of TWMC many years ago. This ministry is now operated by Guatemalans, and they administer quality medical care to the indigent people of very remote, rural villages.

Honduras

Summer brings vacations for some, family reunions for others, and for the lucky few, lazy days of relaxing. For me, summer OUTWARD FOCUS through participation in mission trips. I am filled to the center of my soul when I am able to witness how God is working around the world through the people of The Woodlands Methodist Church. In June and July, we had multiple teams traveling to

We had a group that traveled to Casa Aleluya to love on the children who have been removed from their homes due to severe abuse and neglect. It was also a blessing to visit a Mayan village called Uspantán where a group of TWMC guys called “The Savior’s Sons” have been working for decades to provide a Christian school for Mayan children who are often denied a quality education.

The Rule Of Life

by Rev. Chris McLain, Pastor of Caring and Adults 55+ Ministry

During the summer of 2023, we are talking about the General Rules of John Wesley.

• Do No Harm.

• Do Good.

• Adhere to All the Ordinances of God.

August brings our final rule: Adhere to All the Ordinances of God.

As we have walked through the first two rules, we have talked about thinking of the needs of others, seeing the big picture and ushering God’s goodness into the world.

Philippians 2:12 says, “So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” Now, if you are a good Sunday school student, your ears probably just perked up and you said,

In Honduras, I was able to visit multiple partner ministries. A group of TWMC men who originally went to Honduras with our Quest men have now named their ongoing ministry group “The Four Amigos,” and they have been engaged in community development throughout central Honduras for almost 10 years now. They have accomplished amazing Kingdom work. In addition to building churches and homes, they helped establish a village banking endeavor that boosted the economy of the working class, helped establish a medical clinic, and built a much-needed addition to a school so that students could attend grades beyond elementary school without having to travel long, unsafe distances from their homes.

Our medical mission team saw almost 1,000 patients in two different remote villages. Our Hope for Honduras Team was able to provide needed items for many children and families along with hosting a VBS for some very deserving children. Additionally, we sent a team to partner with Living Water to bring sustainable water to a village in need.

Not everyone can travel to another country to share the love of Christ, but those who do travel could not go without your generous support and prayers for our ministry partners who are on the ground working to help others know the saving grace of Jesus. Thank you for being a church who will go, and pray, and love others…until the whole world knows!

“Wait, wait, wait… we believe in salvation by grace through faith.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

That’s why we shouldn’t leave out verse 13: “For it is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”

John Wesley calls for us to do this work by participating in the “means of grace.” He listed them as reading Scripture, praying in public and private, worshipping communally, fasting, partaking of Holy

Communion and participating in baptisms.

The work we do to see how the Holy Spirit is working perpetuates a life of encounter with God and ensures that we continue to Do No Harm and Do Good. If we lean on God for the power and guidance to do this work of carrying out His will, then we shall live into a rule of life which enhances our faithfulness, compassion and holiness.

A Fond Farewell From Jackie Martini

I began my journey in Jazzercise at The Woodlands Methodist Church 15 years ago and approximately five years later was asked if I would lead the senior program. This group truly loves exercise, has fun meeting so many people, and loves doing what is good for them.

TWMC has been so inspiring in bringing people in from the community to join for free. The instructors who have joined me in teaching this program could not be more loving and caring. Because of these wonderful and talented people, I am stepping down and will be teaching occasionally. I give all the glory to God who put me on this path with the best human beings to work among and teach.

Meet Kim Mccarty

I was born in Ozark, Alabama, and raised in the lifestyle of the military. Dancing and being active was simply a way of life for me growing up. I took numerous dance classes throughout my school years, and in high school I was the head of the dance team. I took my first Jazzercise class in 1992 when I was 35 years old. Fast forward 31 years later, and I’m still teaching classes. In 2003, I decided to add personal training to my certifications.

More than a few years back, I began teaching the Seniors/55+ fitness classes, and I was amazed at what the students in these classes were capable of accomplishing. We all know the importance of staying active, but these students live it!

A Study In Friendship

Pat Yarbrough, pictured with the Disciple 1 Bible study members, talks about the bond they formed during their study: “A few times in life we find ourselves around a person or group with whom we bond. This happened with this special group that God brought together for the Disciple 1 Bible study. We have continued to meet for lunch, Prime Timers events and other church activities even though the class has ended.”

Dinner and the Theater

Elphaba, Glinda and a lively cast of characters presented Wicked, the story of the Wicked Witch of the West based on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, at the Hobby Center. The musical was outstanding. Attendees dined at The Original Ninfa’s Mexican Restaurant in Houston after the show.

Just Cast Fishing Excursion

In June, two groups went fishing off the Galveston jetties. They caught a Black Tip shark and rockfish. Stay tuned for a second fishing opportunity in the fall.
