Dating and Single Parent Challenges Dating a single parent comes with it a di erent set of rules and interactions, because children have to be factored in to any decision or play you make. For example, dating usually takes a back seat to the needs of the children, and that can be problematic for single parents as well as for their dates. Single parents may come to that role via di erent scenarios -- personal choice, divorce, separation or death of a partner -- but they all face similar challenges.
Children usually want their parents all to themselves and are often resentful of their parent’s affections for someone else. Do not be too quick to introduce your date to your children. You may date several different people before you find the one with whom you want to build a relationship. But even if you're concerned about your children’s feelings of jealousy, don't let it deter you from seeking companionship. Usually children will acquiesce when they see the other person is making the parent happy, and it may relieve them of the feeling that they must nurture the parent because of the loss of a prior relationship. If they do feel jealousy, it is wise to have some alonetime with them for special activities where the new partner is not included. by Lillian Wade, Demand Media www.motherhood.modernmom.com

Streak Free Windows in 3 Easy Steps
Keeping windows clean can be a challenge, especially in the summer, and doubly so with kids and pets. Sticky fingers, wet noses and everyday dirt and grime can leave windows looking dull and shabby. Make your windows clean and sparkly with this simple DIY cleaning solution and a few pro tips.
Mix one part distilled vinegar to 10 parts warm water into the spray bottle. Wipe down the window with a micro ber cloth or paper towel to remove any residual dust. Next generously spray the entire surface with your DIY cleaning solution.
All you need is an empty spray bottle, some white vinegar and water. The acidic composition of vinegar acts quickly to break down the film and dust that accumulates on glass surfaces ensuring fabulous streak-free results.
Spray window cleaner on the surface of the window, rubbing the vinegar mixture across the window cleaning away spots and smudges. Wipe horizontally on one side and vertically on the other so that you can see and avoid streaks . Use a second clean micro bre cloth to dry your window as thoroughly as possible. You’ll want to do this quickly after cleaning in order to prevent streaks, so clean windows one at a time. If you find that you still have streaks after you’ve cleaned your window, simply rinse with clear water to help remove any of the remaining cleaning solution. Wait for a cloudy day to tackle this task. Direct sunlight will cause cleaners to dry and evaporate too quickly leaving streaks that are hard to buff out. Overcast skies are ideal, your cleaner will be able to do its job and there will be less of a glare on the glass, making streaks easier to find.

Reusable Face Masks 101
The bene ts of wearing a mask in public during the coronavirus outbreak are obvious. It not only keeps you safe, but also those around you. In fact, until we have a vaccine, we need to consider a reusable mask as part of our everyday ensemble. Like shoes, a mask is now a part of everyday life. Â Â Luckily, clothing outlets across the country have embraced this need and given us a wide variety to choose from in a plethora of fancy fabrics.
The main thing to keep in mind when choosing a reusable mask is to pick a breathable, high performance material like cotton, canvas or denim. Most cloth masks can be machine-washed or hand-washed, but a little extra TLC is required. Delicate fabrics, like silk or a synthetic variation can’t be sanitized e ectively. Here’s a few other tips to keep in mind: 1. If your mask has a removable non-woven lter, be sure to remove it before washing. 2. As with laundry, sort masks by colour. Dark and colourful masks should be washed together and separate from light or white masks. 3. Use a mesh bag. It’s a great way to keep masks from becoming tangled, especially if you’re washing them in a load with clothes. 4. Hot water kills germs, so set the washer to hot and use a heavy-duty stainremoving detergent like Tide, Gain or Persil. 5. If you choose to hand-wash masks, ll the sink with hot water adding about 1 teaspoon of detergent (use gloves to protect your hands). 6. Dry on the highest heat cycle of an automatic dryer or in direct sunlight.
PRO TIP: Scarves, neck gaiters and repurposed clothing have been alternatives for people waiting for masks on backorder. Get creative, but be safe!
Be An Advocate For Your Health in 2020 by Watching for These Key Indicators of an Unbalanced Immune System
It’s no surprise a vast majority of Americans make health and tness their number one New Year’s resolution year after year. By the time we survive the gluttony lled, sleep deprived holiday season, we are ready to give up food all together and hop on a treadmill. The aftermath of the holidays can be even more dangerous for those who su er from primary immune disorders, which makes advocating for their health and well-being in 2020 even more essential. Autoimmunity is caused by dysregulation of the immune system, a ecting up to 50 million people in the United States. Our immune system is what protects us from disease and infection and also works to ght o acquired diseases or infections that have already presented themselves. Immune system dysregulation can result in recurring infections, tumors, organ disorders or malfunction, and development of autoimmune conditions. Since symptoms of immune dysregulation and autoimmune disease (AD) frequently go unnoticed until they progress, many people go undiagnosed. Diagnosis can also be delayed because many of the symptoms can mimic those of other conditions. Following busy and indulgent times, such as the holidays, where the body goes without proper rest and nutrition, the symptoms of immune imbalance can become worse. In order to start the New Year with health and well-being as a top priority, it’s important to pay attention to your body and take action if you exhibit any immune system symptoms.
The following causes and symptoms may indicate that you are su ering from immune system dysregulation: Genetics – Unfortunately for some of us, the apple often doesn’t fall far from the tree when it comes to health conditions. If you have a family history of autoimmune disorders, you should be aware of immune dysregulation indicators and take action if your body exhibits any. Recurrent illnesses – We all get the common cold once in a while. But, recurring serious illnesses such as pneumonia, bronchitis, rhinosinusitis or ear and skin infections can indicate an abnormally imbalanced immune system. Resistance to medications or treatment – If you nd that routine treatment or medications don’t seem to stave o illnesses or symptoms as they should, this can also indicate a problem with your immune system. Especially if the protocols did help at one time, but no longer seem to work. Digestive issues – Frequent nausea, bloating, irritable bowel, cramping, vomiting or diarrhea are not normal. Bloating or swelling of any sort is a sign of in ammation, which is a common symptom of immune system dysregulation.nts with one AD are at risk of developing more. So even if you already know that you are a ected by one type of AD, don’t let it stop you from seeking medical advice to detect other potential condition, especially if any of the abovementioned symptoms seem to present more radically. The immune system is tricky. Scientists and doctors still have a lot to learn about immunode ciency, how autoimmune disorders are acquired and how to treat them. Fortunately, there are many clinical tests that can be used to diagnose immune system dysregulation and AD. One test by Cyrex Laboratories, the GAM – Total Serum IgG/IgG/IgM test, assesses total immunoglobulin production, which can measure one’s general immunity. This can be a strong indicator for the presence of an autoimmune disease or condition. Each New Year, we set out to make positive changes in our lives, trying not to fall back on our resolutions. Make 2020 YOUR year for proactive healthcare and well-being. If you su er from any of these key indicators of immunode ciency, it warrants a discussion with your health care provider. Best wishes for a healthy New Year!

How to Safely Clean Up Broken CFLs Do you use CFLs in your home? Not sure? CFL stands for compact uorescent light. They’re the curly tube light bulbs that use less energy, are cost e cient and eco-friendly. The only downside? Cleaning up a broken CFL bulb can be a bit trickier than sweeping up a regular broken bulb because they contain small amounts of mercury. It doesn’t have to be a big production or require outside help, you just need the right tools and a few additional steps to do it properly. What you need: Cardboard, sti paper or plastic scoop Tape or damp paper towels Plastic bag or glass jar with a lid
STEP 1: Using a piece of cardboard, some sti paper or a plastic scoop, remove as much of the broken CFL glass as you can. STEP 2: Carefully, pick up the smaller shards of glass using pieces of sticky tape, a damp paper towel, or a piece of soft bread. Repeat this step until you’re sure the area is free of broken glass STEP 3: Wipe area with disinfectant wipes. STEP 4: Put all materials (tools and broken glass) into a plastic bag or glass jar, and seal completely. A glass jar with a tight tting metal lid is the best choice as it keeps the mercury vapour sealed inside. STEP 5: Dispose of at your local municipal waste depot, a hazardous waste drop-o event or a business looking to properly dispose of CFL.
DID YOU KNOW? There is no curbside pick up for these bulbs. Even an intact but burnt out CFL needs to be recycled. Thankfully, many businesses will accept your CFLs and do the recycling for you, like Ikea, Rona, Canadian Tire and Lowe’s.

Helpful Hacks for the Cottage Heading up to the cottage this weekend for a little sun and relaxation? These summertime hacks are sure to help.
HOMEMADE FIRE STARTERS Reconnect with your inner girl guide, boy scout or sea cadet to make the best homemade re starter around. The main ingredient of this DIY is dryer lint. So, this hack will be cleaning out your dryer vent at the same time! Simply ll an empty cardboard egg carton with lint. Now, melt some old candles and pour the wax over the lint and let it dry. Once the wax has dried, cut the individual carton cups to use for your next bon re. ALOE VERA ICE CUBES You’ll have to make these up at the cottage, but it will be well worth it! Aloe vera is proven to help the skin heal from sun burns, which is why so many apressun creams include it in their list of ingredients. To make your own solution, simply freeze some aloe vera lotion in an ice tray and pop them out when you need to soothe your skin.
PRO TIP: Ice cube trays have become the way of the dinosaur for many, but the dollar store still has a variety of shapes and sizes to choose from. If you’re able to dig up an old ice tray, a little scrub with a baking soda paste will make it like new in minutes. FROZEN GRAPES Cool drinks on a hot sunny dock are essential, especially if you’ve worked up a sweat kayaking around the lake or going on a hike. There’s absolutely no e ort required. All you need is a bunch of grapes thrown in the freezer upon arrival. Once frozen they make a super fancy ice alternative. White wine-lovers will especially love this trick as it will keep wine icy cold without diluting it.
Sidewalk Chalk: So Joyful, So Easy to Clean!
Looking for a family-friendly, low-mess, and inexpensive summer activity? Think chalk art! Getting creative with sidewalk chalk is fun for kids young and old, all you need is a bit of sidewalk, interlocking bricks or playground space. Popular designs include owers, rainbows, butter ies, smiley faces and hopscotch courts, like this Crayola pattern. If you’re more artistically inclined, consider loftier projects like a favourite cartoon character, a beautiful landscape, or consider recreating famous paintings like the Mona Lisa or Picasso’s Sun owers. During quarantine, people across Canada have taken to using sidewalk chalk to spread beautiful messages of encouragement, as well as thanks for healthcare heroes and essential care workers helping us through this pandemic.
Ready to join the movement and spread joy within your community? Keep in mind that sidewalk chalk stains are impossible to avoid, but don’t worry, the stains and smudges on your clothing are temporary. Here’s how to easily clean chalk o your clothes: Step 1: Using a micro bre cloth, blot the chalk stain with rubbing alcohol. Keep blotting until no more colour comes away. Rinse thoroughly with water. * Rubbing alcohol can remove the colour from fabrics so it’s always a good idea to test an interior seam before cleaning the entire garment. Step 2: If stain persists, apply a little liquid laundry detergent or dishwashing liquid to the stain before washing. Wait at least 10-15 minutes for the soap to e ectively penetrate bres. Step 3: Wash stained item in the hottest temperature the fabric will allow (make sure to follow care label instructions). Step 4: Air dry clothing instead of using the dryer. Drying in the dryer may set the stain and make it permanent, or very di cult to remove. Once dry, if the stain is still visible, repeat the steps above until stain is gone.
3 Easy Ways to Get Rid of the Mommy Pooch
For most women, being pregnant and having a baby (or more) is one of the greatest blessings in her life. Sure, there are many (many, many) challenges and struggles, but the entire experience, and of course, the baby, are miracles from God. The mommy pooch, on the other hand, does not feel like a miracle. It’s tough. Sometimes women still look pregnant years after they’ve had children, never feel completely t and lean, and struggle with a lack of results despite dieting and exercise. But there’s hope: Keto Zone can help you get rid of mommy pooch.
Why Mommy Pooch Happens You know the story. For about 40 weeks, a baby grows inside and all your midsection seems to get rearranged. Part of the deal is that you must eat enough to nourish yourself and your growing baby, and part of it is that your body automatically stores fat (needed for pregnancy and breastfeeding). Once you deliver your baby, much of your body rebounds. But, a mom’s midsection is not so accommodating. Typically, it continues to “pooch out” and carry extra fat. And, it is so stubborn. What’s more, a mom’s abdominal muscles may weaken and separate during pregnancy, as she gains centimeters outward each month. This, combined with extra fat accumulation equals the famed mommy pooch.
Why Get Rid of Mommy Pooch While many women simply don’t like how it looks, mommy pooch goes beyond vanity. Abdominal fat is a dangerous type of fat storage. In fact, studies show a signi cant link between lower belly fat and diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and heart attacks (1). What’s more, there is now evidence that belly fat also increases your risk of cancer and brain diseases.
Unfortunately, many eating plans simply can’t budge the belly fat. Even if using a low-calorie, high-carbohydrate diet, you may find that you lose fat everywhere but your belly. This is why the Keto Zone is so amazing. It targets belly fat so you can finally get rid of belly fat
3 Easy Ways to Get Rid of the Mommy Pooch 1. Omits Most of the Carbohydrates Carbohydrates, and especially re ned sugars and starches, are part of the myriad of culprits in mommy pooch. In fact, their fructose sugar causes the formation and accumulation of visceral fat (a type of fat that lines your organs in your mid-section) (2) and causes mommy pooch. What’s more, visceral fat is also associated with increased risk of disease and type II diabetes (3). All carbohydrates, whether whole-grain or re ned, promote fat gain (4). Until you remove most of the carbohydrates from your diet, you will likely struggle with belly fat. But, there’s great news. Dr. Colbert’s Keto Zone Diet will walk you through the exact steps of omitting carbohydrates to enter the Keto Zone, safely and e ectively. 2. Add a Lot of Healthy Fat If you grew up in the 80s or 90s, you were likely taught that fat was bad. You were taught that dietary fat actually caused fat gain and many diseases. Unfortunately, this was incorrect teaching. Recent studies have found that eating a low-carb, high-fat diet is the most e ective way to lose weight, body fat (5), and improve cardiovascular, blood sugar, and in ammation numbers.
In fact, when you replace most of your carbohydrates with healthy fats, you will feel fuller, more satis ed, lose weight, and get rid of your mommy pooch! One of the best fats it adds is medium-chain triglycerides. These special fats are great for entering the Keto Zone, improving energy and mental clarity and losing fat. Best of all, Dr. Colbert’s Keto Zone MCT Oil Powder is easy to consume and tastes great in co ee.
Try Intermittent Fasting Intermittent fasting (IF) is a vital part of the Keto Zone for many. And, it’s much easier than it sounds. It simply means abstaining from foods for about 15-18 hours per 24-hour day (you use overnight as part of your fast). And, you can actually consume many drinks while intermittent fasting, and it works very well for busy moms-on-the-go.
How? If you simply stop eating in the evening by 6:30 or 7:00 after dinner, and then drink Keto Zone Lastly, if you’re especially short Co ee (co ee with Keto Zone on time and want an automatic MCT Oil Powder and Keto Zone way to way to drastically omit carbs and add healthy fats in the Hydrolyzed Collagen), you can extend your “fasting time” into right balance, you can replace a meal with the delicious Keto Zone late morning. Shake. Then, if you use a Keto Zone Shake around 10:00 or 11:00 am, and wait to eat solids until afternoon, you’ll have use IF for 16-18 hours. This is perfect IF, and will help you get rid of mom pooch. Studies show that IF reduces body fat and does not cause muscle loss (6, 7). It also promotes whole-body health, may reduce risk of cancer, and more!
