The Rumah Lawan Kuda adapted for a modern living inhabits the 100-year-old enclave. Bagas Zakariah is a sanctuary to disengage from the fast paced urban living and emboldens the ecologically sustainable living at Gopeng, Perak.

The Origin •/
Tempat berhimpun sanak-saudara, Tempat berunding cerdik-pandai, Tempat bercakap alim-ulama, Tempat beradat berketurunan.
“The Origin” is de�ined as the traditional Malay dwelling house that represents the wisdom of traditional ways of building of sharing a habitat with others and living sustainably with nature. The name Origin also “house” represent the life of the owner’s son, Encik Abdul Aziz bin Zakariah who usually work and live at Kuala Lumpur and often stay and maintaining the house during the visit. No matter how far he go, he will always remember the origin place where he was born, raised and taking care by their family.

With the rapid changes in the built environment, preserving buildings becomes necessary to safeguard each nation’s character and identity. Heritage buildings should be documented as a reference for future generations. In architecture studies, buildings are like vessels containing the stories of national pride.
For future generations, architectural history must be preserved. The compilation of reconstructing physical measurements to produce a 2D and 3D design of Rumah Perak that retained all of its important elements is displayed in this magazine as part of the effort in heritage conservation.

Perak Traditional Malay House Architecture
The house is designed with different levels with �loor covering with timber is to:
/ Allow natural ventilation circulate the house
/ Give a panoramic view with the site surrounding
/ Give a double-volume view when entering the house
/ Allow visual connectivity between the indoor and outdoor (barbeque area)

The house design is timber frame structure system with three elevated �loor above ground level. The house method of structural assembly is applying a more modern method of timber construction. The components assembly found in the Rumah Lawan Kuda are normally can be found the similar construction in traditional Malay House.
/ Minimize the use of fan (active design)
Timber vent panel and timber louvers around the house for light penetration and natural ventilation.
The design of mezzanize �loor allow double-volume or triple-volume view from Anjung or Ground �loor when entering the house.

High roof allow hot air ventilate upwards and cool air ventilate from elevated ground �loor.
Anjung, Balcony 1 and 2 are all install with timber balustrade to prevent users from failing of the clif.
Red in colour and bold column giving a contrast with the surrounding site. The red is actually not painted by is red stain.
The roof structure are also using timber joineries without using modern construction of using nails, bolts and nut.

A type of decorative that use at the end of decoration to tumpu kasau or papan meleh. There are two style of Kepala cicik which are “L” type and “I”. For Rumah Lawan Kuda, the type of kepala cicak uses is “L” type with the end timber pieces positioned abutting to one another at corners.

Known as ‘hanging bees’. A style of hanging column that support the gerbang. It is a round shape size of the local water vessel (labu air) looking very similar to bees nest.
