DIRECTOR'S NOTE
We are so happy to be celebrating our 19th year of "Giving the Gift of Music" as of March 2022! Thank you for reading our 10th issue of The YMU Collective as we transition away from an email newsletter format into a digital magazine format! This publication highlights YMU Students, Staff, and other subjects of interest with contributions from our staff as well as YMU student writers. If you are a YMU student interested in contributing and being a part of the YMU Collective Team, please send me a message through the YMU Portal. I would love to speak with you and get your insight. Please know that you do not have to be a local student to participate, we will have virtual connect meetings to discuss upcoming events and content. I hope that you enjoy this publication of the YMU Collective!

Joshua Adams has been a YMU student since he was 5 years old. He is now entering his junior year in high school and was recently hired as the pianist at a local church. Joshua is currently enrolled in YMU Ear Training Essentials 3 under the tutelage of Mr. Gray, and one of his aspirations is to become a film composer for movies and commercials. Joshua said, "Being a student at YMU has helped me all the way through this musical journey and they even recommended me for the job." He encourages other students to keep practicing and working hard until they receive their reward.
"I am grateful to be here at YMU and will never forget all of the kindness they've shown me."

YMU COMMUNITY KARAOKE A HIT! The Young Musician's University teamed up with The Lake Carolina Farmers Market and hosted community karaoke at the market on July 7th. It was lots of fun watching people of all ages sing their favorite songs on stage in front of an audience. The youngest singer was 3 years old and sang his rendition of "Old Town Road". YMU plans on bringing other musical events in partnership with the Lake Carolina Farmers Market, including the upcoming "Back-To-School Talent Showcase" for students ages 4-18 on July 28th from 4 pm - 6:30 pm. The last day to register is July 25th. Parents can register online at www.ymunow.com/events. 8

Patriotic Orchestra Performance at Doko Park
YMU Students Performance Highlight
Photos By: Mikell Snooks, YMU Alum
YMU students, Jaden and Joshua Campbell participated in this year's Patriotic Orchestra for a community performance at the Palmetto Citizens Amphitheater. The free event was held on June 26th at Doko Park in Blythewood, SC. Full of patriotic classics, the music ranged from “America the Beautiful” to the “Star Spangled Banner”. The orchestra also performed a memorable rendition of “Taps,” the distinctive bugle melody played as a lights-out signal to soldiers at night as well as at U.S. military funerals and memorials. There were songs that touched on America’s long and enduring faith as the land of the free and the home of the brave, as well as familiar inspirational favorites and patriotic selections. This was the first time since the pandemic that the annual event has been held. This event was orchestrated by Rick McCollum, Minister of Music and Worship at Spring Valley Baptist Church located in Northeast Columbia. Mr. McCollum had only great things to say about working with Jaden and Joshua.
