“Schizophrenia 2” is part of a set of works made around the issues of “man” and “technology”. In this particular case it is a work of moving images through which the artist intends to make the viewer question him/herself about the relationship between man and technology. We live in a markedly technological era, enveloped in large economic interests. On the one hand it is synonymous with progress, showing all the creativity and ingenuity of man, but on the other hand, it generates social exclusion as soon as it has a closing effect on the individual user of the technology. Does technology override the nature of the one who uses it?

“Schizophrenia 3” is part of a series of works created around the issues most discussed in today’s society and have enormous difficulty in generating a broad consensus in favor of a concrete and relevant. This difficulty of converting thought collective action tends to create spaces where thought is round, airtight and sterile. In this particular case, it is a work in motion pictures through which the artist intends to lead the viewer to think about the issue of weight art education and art history on the creative act. Synopsis: In this work moving images it is possible to visualize at first the action of a hand holding a graphite coloring random image Titi (cartoon character). This action will continue until the image disappears covered by graphite giving way to the image of a figure of a famous painting. “Qui suis-je?” 2011, 1’38’’, Pal. See vídeo

In the video “Qui suis-je?” I explore issues concerning identity through a game of images in motion, within separately framed shots, and their respective sounds. In this video, the images serve the purpose of fixating the spectator on a visual identity, forcing the recognition of one single individual, despite the fact that it is presented in four shots, initially alternated and later simultaneous, and speaks in two languages: Portuguese and French.. Read + Synopsis: “Qui suis-je?” | 2011 | 1’38’’ | Pal | Presents a set of images in motion with color and sound. In this video one can see, in a first stage, four unfocused framed close-up shots of a mouth that alternate, appearing one at a time. In a second stage, the four shots appear side by side and remain so until, at the end of the video, they disappear one by one. In each shot, a blurry mouth repeats a phrase, different from the ones spoken by the other mouths.

Series of 14 photographs Archival Inkjet printing 24x16 cm

Thierry Ferreira’s photographic series “Pursuit of Radioactive Cloud” emerged as observation and spontaneous capture by the artist of a cloud that, along a way, stayed omnipresent. The choice to face it as a metaphor for an imminent radioactive threat, concrete and real, is due to the events that were highlighted in the news at the time that the photographic series was made, namely the radioactivity leak from nuclear plants in Japan in the aftermath of the great earthquake of March 2011 in that country. BOOK Thierry Ferreira what is art?

Thierry Ferreira has been developing, since 2006, a vast body of work that has the “House as its main theme. His work explores the relationship between Man and his House, trying to establish connections between the construction of the contemporary Man and its archaic equivalent in that same construction, in architectural-anthropological terms. The artist primarily seeks to show evidence that memories are imprinted in the structure of the house through various techniques, supports and materials.. Read +

Thierry Ferreira presents us a slow video, abstract and difficult to decipher at a first sight. Smooth and strange forms slowly evolve, gradually gaining volume and presence. It is the soundtrack that, laid over the images, creates a stratum of meanings that guides our reading of the abstract forms. The video may in fact be read in several ways, inverting the beginning and the end, combining construction and destruction, abstraction and figuration. The artist explores the relationship between the human being and its habitat, seeking to establish connections between the building of the contemporary man and its archaic equivalent both on an anthropological level and on an architectural level.

Thierry Ferreira’s video seems to occur in a tale of Jorge Luis Borges. The fixed shot frames a landscape with no reference, where a volume disintegrates very slowly. Thus calling for the sensation of the Fantastic where the notion of time ceases to present itself as systematized between past, present and future, to be condensed into one single sensation of non-time. The return to a certain beginning – to the desert, the ruin or to the void – reveals itself as an eternal present of the future. The video’s progress transports the observer to a zone of strangeness, to a reality that only appears in dreams. The House – the great theme that the artist has been dedicated to – is perhaps the last possible symbol in which to anchor a utopia of this size. It is about the minimum structure that demarcates us, temporarily, from a whole in perpetual motion. Like Borges’ The Book of Sand, the abyss that its infinitude caused coincides with the reader’s (passenger’s) impossibility to confirm it.

This installation is composed of a series of red objects (images) placed randomly in the middle of a jungle. The group of composition gives us the idea of an abandoned camp raising in us the following question: Is it that man has abandoned his own nature not knowing how to incorporate nature in himself.
