This is a poster I designed for a design exhibition in March this year.

I want to go to Tuvalu. Not many people know, but Tuvalu is a tiny island country in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and it is sinking at about 5mm every year because of global warming. The rising ocean and harsher weather is causing Tuvalu to ‘sink’. Chances are, in my lifetime, Tuvalu will have sunk so far it will be uninhabitable (nobody can live there anymore). I want to visit before it disappears forever, and before I die.

I designed the poster (B1 size), showing how much the ocean will rise in the coming years. You can see the yearly rise in the black box at the bottom, with the years marked on the side. I wrote “ツバル行きたい” in the sand and took a photo and put it in the poster.

The reason I want to visit is so that I can make a magazine about Tuvalu. I want to record the voices of the people there, and make it into a book. We cannot stop the rising ocean. Tuvalu will dissappear. This is fixed. I hope that the book I want to make will serve as a reminder of something that will eventually be lost.
