OXFORD

Delicious bread, baked on your doorstep, using only local ingredients. The Oxford Bread Group (OBG) uses wheat exclusively from the Oxford region, that’s grown in an ecologically sustainable manner. Our bread is baked by master baker Geoff Coleman at the Cornfield Bakery, using a traditional long fermentation process allowing the loaf to rise slowly, and fully develop its natural flavours. So you get a delicious, wholesome, healthy, loaf with a crunchy crust. One taste, and we know you’ll be back for more. Bread made the way it should be.

The difference

Get your loaf

Most of the bread you buy in Oxford is made from imported flour. Few local bakers use locally grown flour, and most of the flour (both conventional and organic) sold in shops as ‘local’ contains only a small proportion of UK-grown wheat.

Anybody can join – or create their own buying group. For example, a group of work colleagues; by delivering in bulk to a membership ‘hub’ (such as an office), we can minimize our carbon footprint.

Our flour is milled from a unique blend of over 150 ‘heritage’ varieties of wheat, rye and oats that are grown organically in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

We know that British wheat makes healthy and tasty bread. Every time you buy from us, you’re championing local produce – and doing your bit to help reduce CO2 emissions.

At present, the ‘Oxford Loaf’ is available only to members who join the Oxford Bread Group, and who are committed to buying our products regularly.

Gradually, we hope to expand – so that we can supply our products to schools, community organisations and selected retail outlets. To join, simply send your name and contact details to order@oxfordlocalbread.org If you’d like to taste our bread before you join, email us at info@oxfordlocalbread.org Prices and delivery: Our large (800g) loaf costs £2.50. Our 400g loaf costs £1.50. Members are asked to join the club for a minimum of three months (12 loaves), which requires payment in advance (with flexibility for holidays). Bread is baked twice a week and delivered to drop-off points (‘hubs’) in Oxford and the region for collection.

Our vision We’d like everyone in the Oxford region to be able to eat tasty, healthy, and sensibly-priced bread that’s grown locally, in an ecologically and sustainable way. All of the profits from the sale of our bread and flour will be used to support our Local Bread From Local Grain project, and to extend the range of our products available to members. Note: All of the profits from the sale of OBG bread and flour will be used to support our ‘local bread from local grain’ project, and extend the range of products available to members.

OBG Activities

The OBG will hold bread tasting evenings, seminars and work parties throughout the year. Members and the public can keep in touch with the club, and follow the progress of the crop from which their bread will be baked, via our website or by frequent newsleters. To register simply email: info@oxfordlocalbread.org
