he one thing that stands out about Chief Emeka Anyaoku’s life journey isn’t just his strong commitment to service but how intentional he was about achieving this goal. His is a story of an upright life dedicated to serving his country and the international community. A diplomatic leader known for bringing people together and resolving conflicts, he profoundly impacted the world through his tireless work in diplomacy and politics and built strong relationships with people from different backgrounds and cultures. Talk about an intentional life. Living intentionally! What does that mean to you? Are you typically one who says: ‘’I just go with the flow of life.’’ Or I just do it just because… Don’t get me wrong; spontaneity is not bad; however, everything we do, say, or think should align with a purpose. It is a lifestyle where you learn to shut off ‘auto-pilot mode’ and commit to living a more present life aligned with your core values. Living an intentional life is becoming intentional about what you want and what matters and making daily decisions based on the larger picture of what you want out of life. Intentional living means making conscious choices and taking aligned action that helps you to get closer to where you want to be in life and how you want to show up each day. It’s about defining what you want your life to look like and having a plan to move you towards that life. This may sound lofty, complicated, or just plain confusing. But it’s a way of life you can build with reflection and small shifts. It doesn’t mean you have to have your whole life figured out…But it DOES mean having a purpose behind your actions. Know that you can choose to be intentional about your direction without knowing your final destination. No one has everything figured out, and that’s OK. You’re going to make mistakes, and that’s OK too. Mistakes are proof that you’re truly living. A life welllived is a messy life but in a beautiful way. It won’t always be easy, but it’s better than living on autopilot, merely existing and watching the world from the sidelines. We are pretty much still in the early days of the year when decisions are being made about careers, relationships and life goals in general. Alongside these, please decide to be intentional about everything you do and promise to hold yourself accountable. I promise you; it will be a life-changing experience. All the best. Love,

ne of the key things to focus on in your 40s is your physical health. As you age, it becomes increasingly important to take care

of your body through regular exercise, healthy eating, and getting enough sleep. This means making time for regular physical activity, such as walking, jogging, cycling, or swimming. It also means eating a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats and avoiding processed foods, sugar, and saturated fats. Also getting enough sleep is crucial for maintaining good health, so aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night.

Taking care of your mental and emotional well-being is also key. This means making time for self-care, such as meditating,

reading, journaling, or simply sitting quietly in nature. It also means being mindful of your thoughts and emotions and working to develop a positive outlook on life. It is important to seek help if you need it, whether that means talking to a therapist or counsellor, joining a support group, or taking medication for a mental health condition.

In addition to taking care of your physical and mental health, it’s also important to focus on building a fulfilling and satisfying life. This means setting and working towards goals, whether they

be personal, professional, or financial. It also means spending time with loved ones, developing new friendships, and pursuing hobbies and interests that bring you joy. Keep learning and growing, whether that means taking a class or workshop, reading books, or travelling to new places.

In your 40s, you should definitely work on creating a balance between your personal and professional life. As you get older, you may find that you have more responsibilities in your professional

life that can make it hard to find time for personal pursuits. It’s important to set realistic expectations for yourself and to make time for the things that are important to you. This might mean setting boundaries with work, delegating tasks, or finding ways to be more efficient with your time.

Lastly, have fun and be open to new experiences and possibilities. This means being open to trying

new things, whether that means learning a new skill, taking a trip to a new place, or trying a new type of food. It also means being open to change, whether that means changing your career, relationships, or living situation. By embracing change and taking risks, you can continue growing and evolving.

nyaoku’s early life was marked by a strong commitment to education and public service. Promoting democracy on the African continent has always been his primary focus and an area of concern, which showed when he joined the Commonwealth Development Corporation at the tender age of 26 in 1959. In early 1962, Anyaoku came in contact with the then Prime Minister of Nigeria, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. He had accompanied his visiting boss, Lord Howick, Chairman of the Commonwealth Development Corporation, to a meeting with the Prime Minister on the activities of the corporation in Nigeria and the West African region. The Prime Minister, impressed by Anyaoku’s answers to some of his questions on the projects supported by the CDC in West Africa, took an interest in Anyaoku’s future and persuaded him to consider joining the Nigerian Foreign Service. After a gruelling Federal Civil Service Commission interview, he was offered an appointment in the Foreign Service in April 1962. Within a month of his entry, he was appointed Personal Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for External Affairs. In 1966, he joined the Commonwealth Secretariat as Assistant Director of International Affairs. He quickly made a name for himself as a skilled diplomat, and in 1977 he was elected Deputy Secretary General in charge of international affairs and the administration of the secretariat. His strength in leadership can be seen in his active involvement in issues such as the Gibraltar referendum of 1967, the Nigerian civil war of 1967 to 1970, the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla constitutional crisis of 1969 to 1970, the problems following Commonwealth Games’ boycotts during the 1980s and the process leading to peace and democracy in Zimbabwe, Namibia and, in particular, South Africa. Chief Anyaoku was also closely involved in establishing a joint office in New York for small Commonwealth countries that are thus enabled to be represented at the UN. In early 1997, he organised the first African Commonwealth Heads of Government Roundtable to promote democracy and good governance on the continent. He also worked to promote economic development in the Commonwealth, particularly in trade and investment. MINIMALIST DÉCOR IDEAS FOR YOUR BEDROOM

These days, simple is best, especially when it comes to the interior part of your home, particularly your bedroom. We assure you nothing screams calm and relaxed like a minimalist bedroom space. Still not sure how to achieve this? Here are a few ideas to get that classy minimalist look for your bedroom. By Bukola Amoboye

USING-ART-IN-MINIMALIST-BEDROOMS

MINIMAL IS MINIMAL

MINIMAL IS MINIMAL

LIGHTS

MIRRORS-OPEN-SPACE-MINIMALIST-DESIGN

Go Mono: Monochrome décor is probably one

of the most popular today, but even if you don’t want just one colour, you can have a base colour, white, for example, and then add one or two more colours to make it pop! There’s no need racking up all the rainbow colours in your room.

moderate; go for simpler designs instead.

Storage Space: There are different storage spaces, from bookshelves to wardrobes, bedside cupboards, wine shelves, etc. Depending on the space and your taste, it will be great to have these in your rooms. A wardrobe, your bedside cupboard and an overhead bookshelf work great. Again, go for simpler designs.

Minimal is Minimal: In going for a minimalist look, you want to have only a few objects around the room. You can’t be sentimental about everything. We love pictures/paintings, but except it’s a gallery, you don’t necessarily need to hang more than two to three portraits on your wall.

Décor Art Items: We cannot over-emphasise

Bedside Lamps: These are definitely a musthave. Bedside lamps are not only for reading; they can multitask as lovely décor items when turned off and give your room a warm ambience when turned on at night.

Lights: To crown it all up, light up your space!

Bed/Headboard: You also want your bed to be

the beauty and class that décor items bring to any space, be it an office, your living room or, in this case, your bedroom. Get a couple of décor items like wall art, wine, or candle holder.

Get proper lights that complement the colours and throw in dim or night lights for evening effects! It’s no use putting all of the above together, and your space is not well-lit.

N.B- You don’t need much, nor do you need to break the bank to get a room you will love. Considering all of the above-listed things, you should be full of ideas by now!
