No matter how cynical we have become as a people with the daily rudiments and challenges of living in a climate as tough as ours, there is still something that lingers in our system that makes our lives just a tad more bearable. It is called LOVE. We receive and give love to those we hold dear. Our families. Our friends. Our co-workers and basically anyone that crosses our path at some point in time in this journey of ours called Life. Some have it in abundance to give and collect while others have it in small doses. Whatever the case, Love is one of the most cherished gifts known to man. It comes as no surprise then, that in the month of February, we are dedicating an edition or two to Love. And as we all know, Red is the colour of Love. A colour so hot it consumes the room when worn by women. A colour that awakens and ignites at the same time. Red…represents fire. It’s hot. It’s dangerous. It’s as alluring as it is intimidating. There’s a particular bounce to a woman’s step when she is in a red dress…hence the coin phrase; Women In Red! This is the Love season. Let us learn to share it more. Life might not be the way you want it, but you have it to make the best of it. We might not love certain people because of their flaws, but we must learn to love them regardless of these flaws. We might not have the type of love we crave or yearn for, we might not be in a good place emotionally, mentally, physically or even financially, but we have the power to control our minds and decide to remain happy regardless of where we are in the aforementioned categories. We can choose to see the cup as half full instead of half empty. Love is a very powerful tool. If you do not have it all, treasure what you do have because simply put…life is too short! One of the easiest ways add accent to your image is to infuse a fashionable bright contrasting coloured handbag. Carrying a yellow bag is an easy effortless task to do. You must however, consider what you are pairing with it and carry it with so much confidence.

PAIR WITH A BLACK DRESS

A white midi dress and a yellow mini bag are great items to have in your daily off-duty fashion mix. Complement your outfit with a pair of strappy sandals.

Do not shy away from vibrant hues like red when carrying a yellow bag. These statement pieces can look fantastic together when paired correctly and worn confidently.

Go monochrome, wear all round yellow. This combination looks fabulous matched together. Complete this getup with a yellow low heel slippers to spice things up.

For a look that offers function and style, a black fitted dress with a yellow bag. For a more sophisticated touch, introduce a pair of gold strappy knee sandals to the mix.

Wearing your contact BY USIADE

Lens Right

A lot of people wear contact lenses to be fashionable but many others are turning to them instead of medicated glasses. Here are a few tips to ensure that you’re wearing those contacts properly and safely:

JESSICA NWOKEJI

A P P LY L E N S E S W I T H CLEAN FINGERS

A P P LY M A K E U P W I T H CARE

Wash your hands thoroughly. Avoid using products that are oily, contain fragrance, dyes, hand lotions or anything that will adhere to lenses.

Gently apply eyeliner and eye shadow, so that you don’t jostle the lenses.

“It’s best to avoid oil-based products around the eyes and use mascara that is easily removed with non-oily makeup removers.

BE CAREFUL WITH EYELINER

WEAR CONTACT BEFORE A P P LYI N G M A K E U P

SKIP THE LASH BUILDING MASCARAS

Contact lens wearers should avoid applying liner to the inside of the lash line. It can block and cause infection of the important oil producing tear glands, which can lead to dry eyes, filmy lenses and even sties.

Avoid mascaras that contain fibres that will flake into the eyes rather use water resistant mascara.

Some people suggest wearing contacts after applying makeup to avoid damaging or scratching the lenses, but there’s more chance of getting makeup onto your fingers and on the contacts, causing discomfort and possible infection. U S E P RO D U C TS T H AT ARE SAFE

Look for makeup products that are hypoallergenic, ophthalmologist-tested for contact lenses or are safe for contact lens and sensitive eyes.

16

USE CREAM EYE SHADOWS INSTEAD OF POWDER

Though both types of eye shadow can get into the eyes when being applied, it is easier to control the dust from cream shadows. Using an eye shadow primer can help the shadow adhere to the lids. AVOID OIL-BASED PRODUCTS

RED ALERT

Don’t wear eye makeup or put in lenses when your eyes are swollen, red or infected. USE DISPOSABLE CONTACTS

Contact lens technology has made it a lot easier for makeup wearers to use lens safely. If you have allergies or wear eye makeup, you can solve problems by using one-time disposable contact lens.

USE A WAT E R BA S E D F O U N DAT I O N

Cream makeup can be irritating if it gets into the eyes, so instead use a waterbased, hypoallergenic liquid foundation. BE CAREFUL WHEN USING POWDER MAKEUP

Use pressed powder instead of loose powder and avoid the eye area. When using powders try to keep the eyes closed during application.

Even if you use a gentle eye makeup remover and gently wipe off makeup from the lids, there is a chance of contaminating the lenses or damaging them.

Pick Your Pattern

Basic plaid is fine, an understated polka-dot or striped is workable. Houndstooth or checked patterns might make the cut. Three colours are often the rule to abide by.

WISDOM KAYE

Stay Simple

For a formal business day, your scarf should be a plain colour or a simple pattern with a combination of very few hues. A flashy scarf reduces your professional estimation in the eyes of others. NEO MOBOR AKPOFURE.

Don’t Fear Flair

Simplicity and masculinity do not mean being boring. If you’re wearing a lot of gray and black, a scarf made of a rich burgundy breaks up your tired banker appearance. A basic flash of colour can sure brighten up your look.

18

Wear with another piece

You can wear all kinds of accessories with scarves like caps, sunglasses, wristbands and of course gadgets too.

Maintain Masculinity Unlike ties, which are simple neck adornments, scarves are utilitarian and should generally look like it. You can pair it up with the simpler outfits like denim. Drape a plain or patterned scarf into a loop over a denim jacket and rock that scarf look.

TERRY

Favor the Right Fabrics

There’s not really a bad time to wear a scarf. Get yourself a lightweight linen or silk scarf. Play around the colours of the scarf and tie or drape it the way you want to.

Wear It Right

If you are looking for an eye-catching way to wear a scarf, never tie it around your neck. This is an effortless feel to your outfit. Simply let the scarf fall in front of your outfit.
