Mike Adenuga, the Nigerian business magnate and founder of several corporations, has reached a major milestone: his 70th birthday. But this is no ordinary celebration. Adenuga’s life has been a remarkable journey of struggle, perseverance, and triumph. Born into a humble family in Ibadan, Nigeria, Adenuga is said to have started as a small business owner, venturing into the business world when he was barely out of his teens.
Embracing Resilience
In recent years, Nigeria has been at the forefront of business development in Africa, and that’s because our dear country is home to some of the most successful entrepreneurs on the continent. One of the name that stands out among these entrepreneurs is Michael Adenuga, who yesterday turned 70. His is a story of resilience, determination, and hard work. When you read about his journey, you can’t help but be inspired by the strength of character that he embodies. This right here is a lesson that I believe every Nigerian youth should learn – the importance of resilience.
In today’s world, being resilient cannot be overstated. I tell you. Particularly here in Nigeria. We live in a fast-paced, ever-changing, challenging, unpredictable environment. So adapting and persevering in the face of adversity is critical for success in any field.
For this reason, it is essential to cultivate the ability to adapt and bounce back from setbacks.
DEPUTY
The great thing about this is that it is a trait that can be developed over time. It starts with having a clear vision of what you want to achieve and a willingness to work hard towards your goals. It also requires a positive mindset and staying focused on the end goal, even when faced with setbacks. Let’s not forget to add having a growth mindset. You know, just recognising that setbacks and failures are opportunities for learning and growth rather than reasons to give up. It also means focusing on the things within our control rather than worrying about things outside our control.
There’s also the importance of building a support system that works. Be it friends, family members, mentors, or colleagues, who do you go to when you need guidance, encouragement, and support? This right here is also very important. Surrounding yourself with positive and supportive people. I know, given the current situation in the country, this is easier said than done, but hey, we can at least try, right? So today, let’s all take this as our cue to embrace resilience and continue to strive for success, knowing that we have the strength and determination to overcome any obstacle that comes our way. Yes, we can.

EFE IRELE; SHINING A LIGHT ON AUTISM
Known for her roles in movies like “Hey You “ and “Devil in Agbada,” Efe Irele has been open about her personal connection to Autism and her commitment to helping others affected by the condition. She was inspired to create her Autism foundation, the Efe Irele Autism Foundation, from her experience growing up with an Autistic brother. She witnessed firsthand the challenges that families face when dealing with the condition and wanted to do something to make a difference. Through her Foundation, Efe has worked tirelessly to create greater awareness and understanding of Autism in Nigeria. She has organised events and seminars, worked with healthcare professionals and educators, and provided support and resources to families affected by Autism. “I want people to know that Autism is not a disease or a curse,” she says. “It’s just a different way of experiencing the world. We need to create a society that is more accepting of this difference and provides the support and resources that people with Autism need to thrive.”
In this interview, she lets us in on what it’s like living with an Autistic sibling and doing her part to help erase the stigma surrounding Autism.
Can you tell us about your journey as an actress in Nigeria and how you got started in the entertainment industry?
I have always loved the entertainment industry and have been intrigued by being on camera from a very young age. I have been in various advertisements even as a teenager. I then ventured to modelling in music videos. I think I realised I had a knack for acting when I appeared as a model in Adekunle Gold’s Sade video. Later, met Mary Remmy Njoku, who gave me a shot on some of her productions; the rest, as they say, is history. I wouldn’t say it was a smooth ride to where am today, but at the same time, I don’t like to dwell too much on challenges because I understand that challenges are normal and they make you better.
Would you say your growing-up years had any influence on this chosen career path?
Yes. To be quite candid, my growing-up years probably influenced my career choice. I mentioned earlier that I was involved in different adverts, even as a little girl. You know, my mother still appears in adverts and she is in her sixties. I guess that is why she wasn’t against my choice. Also, am an extrovert, and a lot of my friends were in the entertainment scene, so I felt at home from day one.
In previous interviews, you mentioned a younger brother living with Autism. Can you tell us more about your experience growing up with an Autistic sibling and how it has impacted your life?
I am always happy to talk about the love of my life, Ben Irele. Growing up with Ben gave me a broader picture of life. I learned early that special children like Ben are out there. No matter how much you read about it, you will never know if you have never had a sibling like that. It has made me fiercely hardworking and ambitious because will eventually take over his care from my mother, and I want to be very ready for that.
How has having an Autistic brother shaped your perspective on Autism?
It has made me understand that there is more to life than what regular folks know. Seeing how he struggles and how it has affected my family is
I want people to know that Autism is not a disease or a curse,” she says. “It’s just a different way of experiencing the world. We need to create a society that is more accepting of this difference and provides the support and resources that people with Autism need to thrive
tough. But he’s also been a source of inspiration for me. He’s an amazing person, and he’s taught me so much about resilience and love. There are millions of special children like Ben, yet the Nigerian society does not prioritise them. I am like an expert on the topic because of my decades of experience caring for Ben. I’m constantly researching and educating myself daily.
In 2019, you founded the Efe Irele Autism Foundation. Can you tell us more about the inspiration behind starting the Foundation and its work to raise awareness about Autism in Nigeria?
Growing up with Ben, I saw firsthand how difficult it can be for families. There’s still a lot of misinformation and stigma around Autism, and
my favourite moments are when I see the joys (sometimes tears) on the faces of the parents of these children. They are like, yes, someone gets what they are going through.
I wanted to do something to change that. I also wanted to help families going through what my family went through and offer them support and resources.
I made a video about this a few years ago. Autism is still very much stigmatised in Nigeria. People even treat their own children with the condition very badly. Some “hide” them at home so others won’t mock them. We shouldn’t be doing this. These were some of the reasons that informed my starting the Foundation. Four years in, and we are doing great. We have a few different initiatives. One of them is an awareness campaign. We work to educate people about what Autism is and what it’s like to live with it. We also offer resources to families, such as support groups and counselling services.
Another thing we do is fundraising. We raise money to support organisations that work with autistic individuals and their families. We also provide grants to families needing financial assistance for therapy or medical bills. It’s a work in progress; we are taking it one day at a time.
Even though my Foundation is primarily focused on Autism, we still look at other spectrums as well. To celebrate the April month of Autism Awareness, we have been visiting families living with children with special needs. When we visit, we talk to the family and neighbours so they can understand these children and treat them better.
What are some of the misconceptions about Autism in Nigeria that you hope to dispel through your work with the Efe Irele Autism Foundation?
Many people still do not understand Autism despite our best efforts. The slogan for my Foundation is “Making you understand”. When you understand that Autism is not a disease, you will be able to treat and care for children in that condition. Many people still do not understand, but we will keep trying.
What are some of the achievements and mile-
stones you are proud of as an Autism advocate?
Financially supporting families with special children that are struggling financially. You need money to care for special children. You need people to look after them if you are working, you need therapists, and sometimes they need medications. We assist families who are having difficulty with funds.
Can you share some memorable moments or experiences you have had while working with individuals with Autism through your Foundation?
So many memorable moments. As I meet more special children, I see new spectrums. Very interesting. But my favourite moments are when I see the joys (sometimes tears) on the faces of the parents of these children. They are like, yes, someone gets what they are going through.
How do you balance your career as an actress and your responsibilities as an autism advocate and foundation founder?
It is difficult. You even left some parts out. Movie producer and entrepreneur too. How do I juggle them? The truth is that cannot say precisely. I do my best and take it one step at a time, I keep working hard. I keep trying to get better at my acting, and I am growing as a producer. My movie, True Colours, is now on Amazon. I will be coming out with bigger projects this year.
Can you share some feedback or positive impacts you have received from the community and individuals with Autism since starting your Foundation?
have had a lot of positive feedbacks from various quarters. Many people with family members living with Autism are now more open about their circumstances, and that is a big step in the right direction.
Finally, what message do you have for individuals with Autism, their families, and the broader community in Nigeria about inclusivity and acceptance of individuals with neurodiverse conditions?
Firstly, let’s stop hiding the truth. Secondly, let’s understand that Autism is not a disease so the issue of a cure is not even on the table. It is a condition. Thirdly, let’s learn to live with them and support them. Let’s stop treating them badly.

TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE RIGHT HOME FRAGRANCES
Our sense of smell is a powerful tool that can evoke emotions, trigger memories, and influence our moods. A pleasant scent can significantly affect how we perceive our environment. That’s why choosing the right home fragrance is essential for creating a cosy and inviting atmosphere in your living space. If you’re still getting familiar with the various fragrance options available on the market, it can be challenging to choose a fragrance that suits your needs. In this article, we’ll share tips to help you choose the most appropriate home fragrance that makes your space feel welcoming and delightful.
By Oroma Jumbo
The Importance of Home Fragrances. Home fragrances are more than just a pleasant aroma; they can significantly impact our well-being, mood, and productivity. A beautiful scent can make us feel relaxed, calm, and happy. At the same time, an unpleasant one can cause discomfort, stress, and even headaches. In contrast, the right fragrance can create a cosy and inviting atmosphere that reflects your style and makes your home feel like a sanctuary.
Home fragrances can also help eliminate unpleasant odours, such as cooking smells, pet odours, or cigarette smoke, and create a fresh and clean environment. They can also add a finishing touch to your home decor, making it feel complete and well put together. Whether you prefer a floral, woody, or fruity scent, there are plenty of options, ranging from candles to diffusers, sprays, and more.
Different Types of Home Fragrances. Various home fragrances are available on the market, each with unique properties and benefits. Some of the popular types include:
Scented Candles
Candles are a classic and timeless way to add fragrance to your home. They come in several scents, sizes, and shapes and can create a warm and cosy ambience with their soft glow. Candles create a relaxing atmosphere in your bedroom, living room, or bathroom. They can be used alone or in combination with other fragrance products.
Diffusers
Diffusers are a great candle alternative, especially if you’re concerned about open flames or smoke. They work by diffusing essential or fragrance oils into the air, creating a subtle and long-lasting scent.
Room Sprays
Room sprays are a quick and easy way to freshen up your living space and add a burst of fragrance. Room sprays are perfect for refreshing small spaces or providing a quick pick-me-up that you can carry on the go.
Wax Melts
Wax melts are a popular and affordable way to add fragrance to your home. They work by melting scented wax in a warmer, releasing a beautiful aroma. Wax melts come in a slew of scents and are ideal for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere in your living room or bedroom.
Oil Burners
Oil burners are a popular home fragrance option that
involves heating a small amount of scented oil using a tea light or electric heater. Producers typically blend essential oils, carrier oils and synthetic fragrances to create the oil. The aroma released from an oil burner generally is more subtle than other home fragrance options. Still, the scent can last for several hours. Oil burners are often used for aromatherapy, as different scents can affect mood and well-being differently.
ncense & Incense sticks
Incense is made from aromatic plant materials and burned to release fragrant smoke. The scent is often characterised by warm, woody, and earthy tones, accompanied by citrus, floral, and spice notes. Its calming properties make it popular for meditation, yoga, and spiritual practices.
Potpourri
Potpourri is a customisable home fragrance option that can last for weeks or months. It is a mixture of dried flowers, herbs, spices, and fragrant materials, usually placed in a decorative bowl or sachet to add a pleasant aroma to a room. Common materials include lavender, rose petals, cinnamon sticks, and cloves.
Scented Sachets
Scent sachets are small cloth bags with materials that release a pleasant aroma. They can be made using various materials and are available in different shapes, sizes, and designs. You can easily place them in small spaces like drawers and closets.
Factors to Consider When Choosing Home Fragrances
Choosing the right home fragrance can be overwhelming, especially if you need help figuring out where to start. Here are some factors to consider when selecting the perfect scent for your home:
The Room’s Purpose
The room’s purpose is the first consideration when choosing a home fragrance. Different rooms in your home require different scents. For instance, you might want a relaxing and calming aroma in your bedroom. A fresh and energising scent might suit your kitchen or home office.
The Season and Time of Day
The season and time of day can also influence your home fragrance choice. You might opt for a fresh and citrusy fragrance in the summer, such as lemon or grapefruit. Similarly, depending on your mood and activities, you might want to choose a different fragrance for daytime and night time.
The Scent Notes
Aromas typically comprise three layers of notes: top notes, middle notes, and base notes. Top notes are the initial impressions of a fragrance and last for a few minutes, while middle notes are the fragrance’s heart and last for several hours. Base notes are a fragrance’s foundation and can last several days. Choosing a fragrance with the right scent notes can create a well-balanced and harmonious atmosphere in your living space.
The Fragrance Product Type
Candles create a warm and cosy ambience, while diffusers create a subtle and long-lasting fragrance. Room sprays are ideal for quick and easy freshening up, while wax melts are a budget-friendly way to add fragrance to your home. Incense can create a calming atmosphere, while potpourri is a decorative way to subtly fragrance a space. Scent sachets are a great way to add scent to a wardrobe or drawers, while oil burners are a popular way to add a strong scent to a room.

MIKE ADENUGA AT 70 A LIVING LESSON IN BUSINESS
By Yomi Owope
He had his eyes set on a prize: a license to operate in Nigeria. But the opposition was fierce, the stakes were high, and his adversaries were many. When his application was rejected, the man knew he was up against forces that could make or break him. He turned to his vast network of contacts, using everything he had learned from decades in business and personal relationships, hoping for a breakthrough. The road ahead was filled with danger, and he was faced with accusations of bribery and underhanded tactics. But he refused to back down. As the tension mounted, he found himself at the centre of a deadly game of power and raw dogfighting. But with his unwavering determination and cunning, he navigated the treacherous landscape and emerged victorious. In the end, Mike Adenuga was granted a GSM license, and his company, Globacom, rose to become a dominant force in the Nigerian telecommunications industry.
Even though his first company, Consolidated Oil, became one of the biggest oil exploration firms in Nigeria, it was his foray into telecommunications that would make him a legend.
Despite his enormous wealth and success (Forbes named him Africa’s sixth richest man), Adenuga is known for his reclusive nature, avoiding the media spotlight and most social events. Unlike the modernday tycoon, you will not find him reeling out life lessons on Twitter or playing with his grandchildren on Instagram. He hasn’t written a book nor given a lecture, as though telling the world that his life’s experience and his entrepreneurial journey is an MBA course by itself. Throughout his career, Adenuga has faced numerous challenges but has always risen to the occasion and built back better.
He is known for his sharp mind, strategic thinking, and unyielding determination, evidenced in his determination to establish the only 100% Nigerianowned mobile telecoms company. He has built a business empire that spans multiple industries and has become a role model for entrepreneurs across Africa and beyond. One notable personal trait is his strong work ethic and hands-on approach to business, often involving himself in the day-to-day operations of his companies. He is also a risk-taker, willing to invest in ventures others consider too risky.
In addition to his business interests, Adenuga is a philanthropist, dedicating a significant portion of his wealth to social causes. His charitable work includes supporting healthcare initiatives and disaster relief efforts. He has also funded several scholarships for underprivileged students, believing education is the key to lifting people out of poverty. He has established the Mike Adenuga Foundation, whose primary mission is promoting social and economic independence among people. The foundation’s mission is focused on creating and supporting initiatives in various key areas such as sustainable resource management, improving infrastructure, educational opportunities, healthcare systems, and enhancing living conditions for African citizens. These achievements have not gone unnoticed; he has received numerous awards and accolades. He holds Nigeria’s second-highest title of Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON). Before being conferred with the GCON, he had earlier been awarded, at different times, the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) and the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON). In 2017, he was conferred with The Companion of the Star of Ghana, the highest national award in Ghana. He bagged the “Chevalier la Legion d’Honneur” award that same year. In July 2018, the French President, Emmanuel Macron, elevated him to ‘Commander of the Legion of Honour’, France’s highest national honour. Adenuga’s 70th birthday is an opportunity to celebrate his life and reflect on his impact on Nigeria and Africa. His entrepreneurial spirit, business acumen, and philanthropic contributions continue to inspire many. As he continues to lead Globacom Nigeria and contribute to the betterment of his country and continent, we can only expect more great things from him in the years to come.

MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR SMARTPHONE WITH THESE 7 OVERLOOKED
FEATURES
By Oroma Jumbo
Statistics state that about 86.41% of the world’s population owns smartphones; this means that 6.9 billion people (and counting) use smartphones daily.
Smartphones offer a variety of features that allow users to do more than make phone calls and send messages. These days the average smartphone lets you browse the internet and run software applications like a computer, hence why people often refer to them as micro-computers.
Many smartphone users (over 50%) do not use their phones to their full potential. We are all familiar with third-party applications downloaded from app stores, social media apps like Instagram and TikTok, entertainment apps like Spotify and Netflix; the list goes on. However, how often do you use your mobile device’s in-built apps and features?
Here are a few known and not-so-well-known features that will make your overall user experience more satisfying and likely enhance your productivity.
VOICE ASSISTANT
Apple devices have Siri. Android devices have a few, with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant being two of the most popular.
This web-connected software uses voice and speech recognition to listen to and perform commands. You can use it to make calls, send messages, play specific songs, set reminders and timers, conduct calculations and web searches, and so much more. The best thing? You do not need to have your phone in hand.
Imagine a scenario where your hands are tied up; perhaps you’re cooking and suddenly remember that you need to add an item to your mobile grocery list. Instead of halting halfway or waiting— risking the possibility of forgetting—you can call out to your phone for help. You can also use it to locate your phone when you know it is nearby but out of sight. Hands-down, the best feature.
TEXT REPLACEMENT
If you constantly have to type out the same bits of information or exit other apps to copy information from your notes app, you can set up text shortcuts in your keyboard settings to save time and make communication easier. For example, you can set your keyboard to replace “my address” with your full address, directions, and phone number. This feature is available on Android and Apple devices.
SPLIT-SCREEN MODE
You can view two apps simultaneously on your mobile device; this makes comparing information or sending messages easier while viewing another app. Unfortunately, this is only available on Android devices.
The closest alternative to this on the iPhone is the fast app-switching feature which lets you swipe either left or right from the bottom of your phone, enabling you to switch between apps without having to swipe up to view all open apps.
DND AND FOCUS MODES
You may have come across the Do Not Disturb (DND) feature. This feature lets you temporarily silence calls, messages and notifications when turned on.
If sounds and vibrations easily wake you up at night or you are trying to stick to or maintain a bedtime routine, you can set your phone to silence itself automatically during your bedtime
hours. You can also go a further step and automate it to turn on at certain hours. If you are worried you might miss important calls from loved ones or colleagues, add their numbers to your Favourite lists and allow their calls and notifications to disable the feature.
The iPhone lets you set up different focus modes to silence or allow notifications from specific apps or people. You can turn these on for an hour, until evening, or until you leave a particular location.
COPY TEXT FROM PHOTOS
If you own an iPhone and have ever taken a photo of a document or a sign board from which you intend to pull information, all you have to do is hold down your screen over the text, and you can copy and paste it into another app. If the text is a phone number or an email address, you can call or email directly from the Photos app. The same method allows you to copy from paused videos if you own an iPhone XS or a later model.
You can use the Google Photos app on an Android phone, although this is just limited to photos. To copy from videos, you must take a screenshot of the particular frame you need first.
SCAN DOCUMENTS
Don’t you love technology? Before smartphones existed, you had to wait till you had access to a scanner to scan and save documents. Now, with the help of your phone’s camera, you can easily do this from the Notes app on an iPhone or Google Drive on Android. You also get the option to save your scan as a pdf or jpeg.
IDENTIFY OBJECTS IN PHOTOS
You can use this feature to identify almost anything in photographs. often use it when someone posts an item I like on Instagram. Rather than waiting on a response when ask, “Where did you get that from?” I take a screenshot, open the Google Photos app and use the Google Lens feature to search the web. often find what I’m searching for or get directed to similar items. Furniture, plants, clothing and accessories, as long as it’s on the internet, you can find it.
Apple has a similar feature built into the Photos app but could be more efficient. Fortunately, Apple device users can also download the Google Photos app.
WHEN THE DRESS CODE SAYS CASUAL CHIC
The casual chic is one of those dress codes which might sound confusing but is pretty much one of the easiest to navigate. Whether you’re going out for brunch, meeting friends for a movie, or attending a business lunch, the casual chic dress code is perfect for all occasions. All about striking a balance between formal and casual attire, it combines comfort and elegance, allowing you to look stylish while also feeling relaxed.
One of the key elements of this dress code is simplicity. The idea is to keep your outfit minimalistic yet stylish. Stick to neutral colours like beige, black, white, and navy blue. These colours always stay in style and are easy to mix and match.
For women, a great casual chic outfit could be a pair of skinny jeans paired with a white blouse and a blazer. Accessorize with a statement necklace, a pair of sunglasses, and a pair of comfortable flats or heels. While a pair of chinos, a crisp white shirt, and a navy blue blazer can create a great casual chic look for men. Complete the outfit with a pair of loafers or sneakers and a leather belt.
Another thing to take into consideration is comfort. The clothes you choose should be easy to wear and allow you to move around freely. Opt for breathable cotton, linen, and silk fabrics that feel comfortable against the skin. Avoid clothes that are too tight or too loose. You want to strike a balance between comfort and style.
When it comes to accessories, less is more. Choose a few statement pieces, like a watch, a scarf, or a statement bag. These accessories can elevate your outfit and add a touch of personality. Avoid over-accessorizing or wearing too many colours or patterns. Remember, simplicity is key. Finally, make sure your hair and makeup are natural and effortless. A messy bun or a simple ponytail perfectly complements a casual chic outfit. Keep your makeup light and natural, focusing on enhancing your features rather than hiding them. You want to look polished and puttogether but not overdone.
With a few key pieces and well-chosen accessories, you can create a chic and effortless outfit that is perfect for any occasion. So next time you get an invite that reads casual chic, remember these tips and get ready to kill it.

THE WILDFLOWER
By Bukola Amoboye
The Wildflower is an emotional drama that pulls us into the reality of three women faced with different forms of abuse from the men around them. One suffered domestic violence from her husband until he killed her and fled, leaving their two daughters behind, another was nearly raped by a neighbor but managed to injure him before escaping while the other was raped by her boss who happened to be a successful and influential architect. The latter decided to rise up and fight for justice, taking her boss to court and winning after multiple women confess to surviving similar experiences with the same man.
The Wildflower is directed by Biodun Stephen and written by Niyi Akinmolayan, Mannie Oiseomaye, Amaka Chidioka and many more. It was first released to Nigerian cinemas in May, 2022 and began streaming on Netflix on the 21st of April, 2023.
It features stellar performances from many of the cast including Damilare Kuku, Deyemi Okanlawon, Zubby Michael, Toyin Abraham, Kiki Omeili, Etinosa Idemudia, amongst others.
Deyemi Okanlawon gives a gripping performance as the main villain in this story it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing this role. Damilare Kuku also stood out as female lead, giving us tear-jerking moments, letting us into the imagined world of a rape victim.
Through the lens of these relatable character, especially the female ones. The movie realistically cap-
tured some of the kinds of things women of different age groups go through in the cases of harassment and assault.
Asides the brilliant acting from most of the main cast, some of the other captivating elements of this moving include; cinematography, color grading, which helped set the mood for the entire film. the sound track and, costumes.
The plot however was a bit disjointed, the challenges of trying to capture three different stories in one were obvious. We didn’t get proper resolutions for the other two victims as obviously, more attention was paid to the last rape victim.
In an attempt to capture all of these stories, even the ending felt rushed. The entire movie was building up to that point but we were let down by how quickly it was all resolved. The tension and suspense could have been played out and sustained a little more. The initial threat was lost too quickly and suddenly our villain didn’t seem so powerful anymore. For a character that had been built up to have so many connections and influences, he was taken down all too easily. It would have probably been better to make it into a series or focus on just one story.
‘The Wildflower’ is a good movie with relatable stories and character and comes highly recommended by us, however we think the story had a lot of potentials that could have been better explored.
A GUIDE TO DIFFERENT NAIL SHAPES
Are you looking for a quick and easy way to switch up your look? Look no further than your nails! Choosing the right nail shape is just as important as choosing the right outfit or hairstyle. The shape of your nails can say a lot about your personality and style, so choosing a shape that reflects who you are is important. Whether you prefer classic elegance or a modern edge, there’s a nail shape out there that’s perfect for you. So, go ahead and experiment with different shapes until you find the one that makes you feel your best – your nails will thank you for it!
By Oroma Jumbo
Round nails
The classic round style has curved edges and tips. Though they resemble oval nails when grown out, round nails are more circular. This shape is most flattering for those with round nail beds and can make wide nail beds look narrower. It’s less likely to break, making it a practical choice for those who use their hands frequently. Short lengths enhance this style’s durability.
Square nails
This style resembles a square or rectangle, with straight and sharp edges squared off at the tip. Short square nails are durable due to their precise straight edges and are ideal for individuals working with their hands. However, they may not be suitable for those with shorter, thicker fingers, as they can give the appearance of stubby fingers. However, its sharp corners can cause damage by snagging or scratching objects.
Squoval nails
The Squoval nail shape combines square and oval shapes, resulting in a softer appearance due to the rounded edges. This shape is highly favoured as it complements any nail bed and length. Aim for a length that falls between short and medium to achieve the perfect Squoval look.
Oval nails
This style is characterised by a rounded shape with inwardly curving corners. It is particularly popular among people with medium-length nails and narrow nail beds. Due to the slight filing of
the sides, this shape is less sturdy than others. However, it looks great in all lengths.
Almond nails
Almond nails are named after the nut, with slim, tapered sides that end in a rounded point. This shape is the most flattering for medium-length nails, as it can make your fingers look longer and thinner. Even though their sides are filed, they can still be quite strong when kept short. They may need acrylic or gel reinforcement if they are longer.
Coffin nails
This nail shape is an angular version of the square shape, with a straight edge that tapers inward and resembles a coffin. It gives the illusion of longer nails and provides a perfect canvas for nail art. Because of its structure, it requires additional support from gel or acrylic, as filing the sides of the nails compromises their strength.
Stiletto nails
The stiletto knife inspired the name of this popular style. These nails are tapered on both sides and end in a spikey point, almost resembling a triangle. The longer the nails, the more dramatic the effect. It is recommended for acrylic or gel nails and can be paired with impressive nail art designs. However, it is the most fragile and least practical of all nail shapes and is prone to snagging and scratching.
These are just a few of the many types of shapes that exist. No matter which nail shape you choose, caring for your nails is a must to keep them healthy and strong. Moisturise your hands frequently, perhaps with nail-strengthening hand cream. Use cuticle oil daily to keep your nails hydrated and prevent breakage. Avoid using your nails as tools, and always wear gloves when doing household chores!
