If there is one place listed among the top five places you do not want to be in, aside from the grave and prison, l am sure the hospital will come third! But as with everything in life, we have had cause to visit hospitals even if it is against our wishes. I am sure, like me, you also ‘gel’ with some Doctors more than others because of their bedside manner. I have always believed learning how to deal with a patient’s mental and emotional state is just as important as getting them back on their feet but the primary aim for any Doctor, is to ensure they give the best possible treatment they can. With this in mind, the courage of medical practitioners in fighting this pandemic is inspiring and their heroism, endless. The fact that they are putting their own lives at risk to save the lives of the Covid patients they attend to cannot be more appreciated. Much as we applaud their skill and courage, we cannot but worry about the emotional and mental impact this will have on them because of the danger in which they work under. We feel for their families and loved ones who live in constant fear and worry about them in the battlefield so to speak. They say you never know the strength of a tree until the wind blows and our Doctors and Nurses have proven their mettle with the way they have managed this virus. They are the Front Liners. We give kudos to all sectors involved in flattening the curve, from the task force to the Health Minister, the government and the Governors, the health commissioners and the medical staff in various centers built to fight and contain this virus. WE SALUTE YOU!

EMBELLISHED FACE MASK
Embellished couture masks might not seem the most practical of options, but for up-andcoming label Voravaj Bangkok, “couture is life”. Designer Voravaj Varazatiravatt was experimenting with facemasks long before the outbreak of Covid-19. Each couture mask features intricate crystal and bead embellishments that take between 36 – 84 hours to handcraft, he wants to create a fun and unique campaign that not only encourages people to self-protect with flair, but also inspires others to turn their talents into creativity during lockdown
•
Fit is key: Pay close attention because if the mask does not seal properly on your face, it will not protect against fine particles and it will also not be comfortable. Wear it tight: It’s more comfortable when it’s tighter. Make sure the straps are tight enough to fit the face. Avoid lipstick: Try not to wear lipstick while wearing face mask. Keep it clean: Cloth face masks need to be kept clean always. After one wear, wash and keep in a neat place. Pair with small-framed sunglasses: Good face masks tend to sit quite high on the bridge of your nose, making larger sunglasses uncomfortable to wear. Smile with your eyes: Learning to use your eyes to communicate is the new way forward because you will use them a lot more with your nose and mouth covered.

Masks It looks like we’re going to be wearing face masks for a while to reduce the spread of COVID-19 which is all the more reason to find one that you like. The NCDC has recommended that people wear masks when going out in public while keeping social distance. French costume designer Anne Sophie Cochevelou has created exquisite face masks for every day she’s been on lockdown, each reflecting a different theme. Inspired by the Spanish phrase “másque a la cara”, which literally means “more than a face”, she questions whether masks can actually be used to show identity rather than conceal it. Describing masks as “an intimate banner” or “personal flag”, Cochevelou believes they can bring another dimension to our faces much like makeup or jewelry. While these masks are purely for art, she is also selling wearable ones that are less extravagant but equally as creative.

Of course, this isn’t to trivialize the global pandemic. The coronavirus pandemic is not an excuse for a fashion show, but as we lose our ability to communicate through smiles and visual cues with most of our faces covered up, we have to come up with alternative ways of making a first impression. Fashion has always been a platform for self-expression. JULIYA KROS
CA-COVID BEGIN BREAD DONATION For the coalition against Covid-19, the journey to feed millions of people started with a loaf of bread. Five thousand of them were given out across three distribution centres on day one. The donation began at Tinubu Square on Lagos Island where men, women and children were able to benefit. A beneficiary said “I will like to appreciate those ABISOLA DEJONWO-TOKAN people that gave us this bread. We thank them, we appreciate them and those who have being giving. You know we are many and this thing cannot be enough for us but we really appreciate them”. We travelled the short distance to Lekki where another CACOVID bread distribution centre has been set up to attend to a bigger crowd of people. Even in the pouring rain CA-COVID said they are dedicated to make sure food resources reach out to people who need them regardless of weather. We then arrived at the new market space in the Oniru area where CA-COVID bread was shared out to people who need them. CA-COVID joined forces with Abisola Dejonwo-Tokan the owner of Dejabys. A bakery which specializes in butter rich bread and here is what she has to say, “I started this initiative about a week ago and CA-COVID decided to support us by sponsoring the initiative of giving and helping relief the hunger situation going on in the country as a result of covid-19 that is around and so far, so good it’s been good. Today is the first day with CA-COVID sponsoring us”. Within the minute of finishing up in Oniru, more cars loaded with bread reached Muri Okunola park in Victoria Island where once again, a group of the hungry and homeless gathered within seconds. A beneficiary said “I have been having accommodation problems for the past six years. I have been homeless, jobless no money to feed. I stay here at Muri Okunola park outside gate day and night and things have been very difficult for me. No source of income, no investment no nothing especially we the poor people that are fighting for daily survival, it has been terrible with us but we thank God Almighty that we still have good Nigerians that are coming out to help us with food and drinks and also bread”. This spread out reach is expected to last for two weeks. In the meantime, bigger food relief packages are on the way as CA-COVID continues its journey to reach 1.7 million households struggling to survive economic effects of the covid-19 pandemic in Nigeria. STYLE
Being able to dress chic and stylish every day is a skill that can be difficult to master. Luckily for you, we’ve rounded up the top style tips that every woman should know. While they may seem small and simple, these handy tips will revolutionize the way that you dress on a daily basis. Whether you’re headed to work, out for drinks, or even to Sunday brunch, these advice gems are sure to see you looking fashionable and fabulous every time you step out of the house.
for TIPS EVERYBODY
THISDAY Style Vol. 22, 9138 Sunday, May 17, 2020 Buy These Three Essential Jackets You may know that a little black dress and a white T-shirt are wardrobe essentials, but do you know the must-have jackets for your closet? A tailored blazer, casual jacket and denim jacket are the three designs that are non-negotiable for every stylish lady. While a tailored blazer will have you covered for work and formal occasions, the denim jacket will take care of casual looks. The casual jacket, on the other hand, is perfect for edgy outfits and evening drinks. Whenever you’re running late, you can quickly grab one of these on your way out the door.
Don’t Be Afraid to Mix Patterns Patterns are an excellent way to add some life and fun to your wardrobe, and mixing patterns is even better. So, if you’ve been sticking to basic block colours for the past ten years, now’s the time to be bold and embrace checks, stripes, florals, gingham, and more. Just remember to make sure that your patterns complement rather than clash. To do so, try choosing one focal design/colour when accenting your outfit with another. Alternatively, opt for two patterns with matching or complementary colour palettes.

Organize and Edit Your Closet When it comes to dressing stylishly, organizing and editing your closet is essential. After all, how can you create a great outfit if you can’t even see what you own? Start by decluttering your wardrobe and donating or selling anything that you don’t wear or love anymore. Then, organize the remaining items neatly into categories. Hang what should be hung and fold the rest. Also, invest in a shoe rack so that you can easily visualize complete outfits. After doing so, your closet will feel much more inspiring, and you’ll nix those “nothing to wear” moments.
Balance Your Top and Bottom While those catwalk models might make pulling off an entirely loose or tight outfit appear simple, it’s not. For most of us, a successful look comes from striking the right balance. As such, it’s important to plan outfits where the top and bottom complement each other. If you’re wearing a loose shirt, try pairing it with tight pants, and if you’re wearing wide-leg pants or a full skirt, consider partnering it with a fitted or cropped top. WUNMI BELLO

Find a Good Tailor The work of a good tailor can make even a bargain wardrobe look a designer one. While you may not initially want to spend the extra money to get items altered, you’ll quickly learn that the extra wear you get out of them far outweighs the cost. Whether it’s a pair of jeans that have been hemmed or a dress that’s been taken in, nothing beats a garment that’s precisely fitted. Another great tip is to get your tailor to change buttons to fancier styles. Doing so will make all your jackets and coats look infinitely more luxurious.
Create a DIY Styling Kit Even perfectly planned outfits can fall apart when something goes wrong. For those times, a styling kit can be a lifesaver. If you’re not a stylist by trade, create a kit for yourself by stocking up on the essential items for the job. A stainremoving spray or pen, a lint-roller, a pill remover, a needle, and some thread, and safety pins are all must-have emergency items. Other necessary articles include double-sided tape for fixing loose hems and gaping tops, a bra clip for hiding visible straps, and a makeup sponge for banishing deodorant marks.

Invest in Styles that Work for Your Shape Having an endless supply of outfits that look great on you requires strategic shopping. In particular, investing in designs that work for your body shape is essential. If you’re not sure what clothes work best for you, have a look at the most flattering items you already own. If those wide leg pants, jeans and that empire waist dress are working for you, you should shop for other pieces with the same silhouette. Then, have fun experimenting with different fabrics, colours, and embellishments while maintaining the confidence of knowing that you already look fantastic. OLA ADEWALE
Curate Your Colours to Suit Your Skin Tone Have you ever wondered why some colours look great on you and others don’t? It’s because of your skin tone. To ensure every outfit you wear looks amazing, try filling your wardrobe with the colours that flatter you the most. If you have a cool complexion, shop for garments in colours like white, black, grey, silver, and blue. If your undertones are warm, on the other hand, stock up on designs in shades of brown, yellow, gold, olive, and red. IDIA AISIEN
LISA FOLAWIYO
Upgrade a Casual Outfit with a Scarf Another great accessory tip is to upgrade casual outfits by adding a scarf. By just slipping on a scarf before heading out the door, you can make any relaxed outfit appear more put together and polished. The instant style upgrade is one that celebrities and off-duty models use all the time. So, the next time you’re rocking jeans and a T-shirt, try following their lead and elevating your ensemble with a scarf.
Show Just the Right Amount of Skin Showing just the right amount of skin is essential to creating a stunning evening ensemble. To ensure that you nail the right look, try showing off just one part of your body. If your best feature is your legs, opt for a long-sleeve, mini dress. If you want to show off your cleavage with a deep-V design, pick one that’s full-length. When in doubt, try revealing less, not more. Too much skin will often look a little trashy while hardly any can still appear elegant.

Prepare for the Fitting Room Don’t ever go shopping when you’re unprepared to face the fitting room. If you’re in too much of a rush or are too tired to try things on, you should wait and go shopping another time. As fits and sizes vary between stores and designs, trying on items is essential, especially if you don’t want to return them later. Also, remember to dress for the item for which you’re shopping to get the best perspective. Trying on an evening gown with high heels and the appropriate lingerie will always look better than with sneakers and a sports bra.

Don’t Forget to Accessorise Adding accessories should be the final step to completing all your outfits. Whether it’s something as simple as a belt or as decadent as flashy necklaces, accessories have the power to transform your look from good to great. Therefore, it’s important to invest in good accessories and remember to wear them. Stylish shoes, bags, hats, sunglasses, and Jewlery are all essential items to own and wear for a fashionable finishing touch. MARII PAZZ

Learn How to Layer Layering can take an outfit from plain to perfect, and while it can be a hard skill to master, it’s one worth learning. Find inspiration from your favourite street style stars and try mimicking their looks with your own wardrobe. Also, don’t be afraid to experiment. Try wearing a white crewneck T-shirt under a dress, a fish stocking underneath. The results can be incredibly playful and seriously stylish.

The striped tee, originating as a uniform in the French navy, will forever be très chic. If printed tees are a little too loud for your taste, a striped T-shirt is an excellent alternative to tastefully brighten up an outfit. Doctors and nurses are seen as life savers who are trained to bring comfort and healing when people are unwell but still, hospitals are not a place people love to visit if they can help it. Aside from providing treatments, medical practitioners also have to counsel their patients and uplift their moods when the patients are consumed by fear and uncertainty. The role of a medical practitioner is not just to operate, give tablets and injections. It goes further than that. Their bedside manners also play a role in the growth of a patient’s recovery pshycoligically, mentally and physically which is very pertinent in the healing process. In a time of crises like the Corona virus pandemic, these medical practitioners have shown courage, fearlessness and devotion to battle the wave of the virus and flatten its curve. In this edition’s COVID 19 series, EXECUTIVE EDITOR, RUTH OSIME explores the lives of frontliners by drawing attention to their courage and heroism in performing their duties. They are working endlessly to save our lives and most importantly, putting their own lives at risk as they heed to the call of duty! Through the coronavirus crisis, Nigeria painfully realized how ill-prepared her healthcare system was to fight this virus. But fortunately, they stepped up to the plate by building centers to meet the needs and demands of its citizens under this pandemic. Some buildings were also donated to use as healthcare centers as well, the THISDAY Dome being one of such centers. Naturally, these frontliners are the heroes of today and are greatly admired for their courage and tenacity. Never has their role as frontliners been more appreciated. Going to the battlefront and coming home safe and sound is the prayer the world has for them. Guest correspondents AZUKA OGUJIUBA & KONYE NWABOGOR report.

Every day, you go to work, are you filled with anxiety? Personally, what steps have you had to take to ensure you protect your family and loved ones from contracting the virus?
No, I am not filled with anxiety. I ensure all precautionary steps are taken and this prevents infection. My family gets up to date information and materials needed to prevent contacting the virus and this for me, is adequate although I have had to stay away from home this period. The President announced recently that medical insurances are being planned for medical staff who might lose their lives in the call of duty. What other extra steps do you think the government should take to boost the morale of front liners like yourselves?

Madagascar claims to have found a cure for corona virus which they have apparently tried and tested. What is your take on this product?
I absolutely think it is worth a shot. We should definitely analyze the proposed cure for its efficacy. This cure has been accepted and rejected in several parts of the world. We know that there is no cure for covid-19 and all that is being used is based on trial and error and then seeing a reduction in viral load of an infected patient which is the same thing Madagascar has done. Madagascar claims that at least 55 COVID-19 patients in the country had recovered after treatment with the herbal remedy for the disease. Currently the purported herbal cure for COVID-19 is on its way to Nigeria for clinical analysis of its efficacy by the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), as said by the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Mr. Boss Mustapha.
I believe the government is doing as much as they can with available resources. The most important thing is to ensure front liners in all isolation centers and hospitals are well protected by having necessary protective equipment. Once that is available, work goes on smoothly.
6
Is it true that taking vitamin D or C and spending more time in the sun can boost your immunity against the virus?
No. There is no such thing as boosted immunity. In actuality, you wouldn’t want to do this. Vitamin supplements aren’t beneficial to you unless you are deficient. The best way to support your immune system is to get enough sleep, exercise, eat a balanced diet and live a healthy life which involves cutting out smoking and alcohol intake.

We recognize the psychological effect of being isolated for COVID-19 on patients and how it affects their mental, social, and emotional wellbeing, and so apart from the work we do as healthcare workers in allaying their fears, we also have therapists that speak with them and help them. There are also information brochures we give them on admission that provide all they need to know about the virus, so a lot of them are well informed. Understandably, there’s a lot of anxiety out there because this is a relatively new virus and we are yet to completely understand it but it is important to mention at this point, that it is wrong to stigmatize people that have COVID-19 as this leads to people hiding the illness and prevents them from seeking healthcare immediately. It is also pertinent to note that People that have COVID eventually RECOVER and at that point are not able to infect others. COVID-19 is not a death sentence as about 80% of cases have mild to moderate symptoms.
It does not make any logical sense for the lockdown to be lifted seeing that we are still on the climb but then, the government obviously made this decision for economic reasons and has tried to put measures in place for a successful ease of the lockdown. However, it is sad to see how social distancing and all other measures put in place are being flouted by citizens which will inevitably lead to a surge in the number of cases.
There is training for health workers of different cadre which gives them the necessary tools and information needed to properly handle cases related to covid-19. Also, if a healthcare worker has any issue with working in a hazmat suit, such a person can be exempted for example if it is a case of asthma.

Most people are gravely afraid of this virus. They see it as a death sentence and worse still, a stigma which is very unfair to its victims. Due to this, many people, even with all the awareness being created, live in denial and as such, there have been more deaths that could have been avoided if attended to early enough. Now, when patients come, how do you assuage their fears? Do you have to sometime counsel them to make them deal with the virus better mentally and emotionally?

There’s an Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocol we employ before we enter and exit the isolation Centre which ideally should ensure that we do not contract the virus if followed religiously but then you can never be too careful. Sometimes the thought comes, and you wonder if you’ve been infected. Because of this potential risk, we are all currently accommodated in isolation from our families just so that we don’t expose them to the virus in case we contract it. Personally, it’s been weeks since I last went home.
How logical is it to lift a lockdown when the curve has not flattened? Considering social distancing is not well observed in certain areas, will the virus not automatically spike up as has been reported in some countries that have done so?
Do you have a selection of doctors in certified hospitals for Corona virus treatments specially assigned to treat Covid-19 patients? And if a doctor is known to have an underlining ailment, is he/she exempted from treating patients?
What is your take on the closing down of certain private hospitals because a contacted person entered the premises? Is it logical to do so and if not, what more rational measures should be taken instead of closing it down?
more stringent measures do you take to doubly ensure they do not catch the virus?
Obviously there is great research being done in an attempt to create a vaccine to cure this virus. What are the phases needed to be done before a vaccine can be approved?

and the side effects and adverse reactions are taken into consideration. For now, our best bet remains maintaining current levels or a slow rise in levels of infection by the use of face masks (correctly) and social distancing so that our isolation centers are not overwhelmed.

A group of Chinese doctors recently came to Nigeria. How do you as a doctor feel about that?
Our doctors are putting in great work and a lot of sacrifice into the fight against COVID. We’ve employed a case management system that works and has led to successful recovery rates and also minimal infection of frontline healthcare workers. In view of this, l don’t think it was necessary to bring in the doctors from China. I’m yet to see how the entry of the Chinese doctors has positively impacted our treatment protocol.

minimal social distancing. Is it also true that the virus cannot spread as much as it has done in international shores because of our climate? So, is it safe to assume we might not be hit as bad in terms of recorded cases? Personally, what steps have you had to take to ensure you protect your family and loved ones from contracting the virus?
13
But usually, the symptoms will disappear, and the person will have a feeling of a better state of health. No fever reduced or no cough, no chest pain, no breathlessness, no body pains and gradual return of sense of smell and taste if it was lost. Basically, it’s individualized.
The virus has defied all those myths obviously with the rate of spread here and even in Northern Nigeria. For now, the weather doesn’t affect its spread. It’ll be very wrong to assume we won’t be hit as bad in terms of recorded cases. If we test enough, we’d get similar numbers. I’m pretty sure many have contracted it and gotten better. Because statistics shows that about 80% will present with mild or no symptoms. So, Lagos state government did well in protecting our families. All frontline workers with direct contact with patients have been housed away from their family members. I only see family members through video calls. And I keep educating them about any updates on the disease to help keep them safe as much as possible. Do you believe enough people are being tested enough to give us a relatively accurate figure of infected cases or might the numbers be far worse than projected?
14
The government itself has said several times that we aren’t testing enough. I think by the time we get optimal with our testing, most people would have contracted it and gotten better. So, we won’t have the scary figures being projected. It has been said that some people might have had little or no symptoms and the virus can even leave bodies untreated. For who fall into this category, what can they take at home to further ensure they rid themselves of the virus completely?

People, especially Africans are warm natured and love to embrace and hug each other as an expression of love. After a while of living with fear and social distancing, these old habits might return. Do you think this is more likely to happen especially after a vaccine has been found? Would people become less afraid of the virus or do you believe social distancing will still remain regardless?
12
So, in my opinion, we’ve really not observed the physical/social distancing appropriately from the onset. The old habits are returning already with people learning more about the virus and its relatively low mortality. I’m not sure the vaccine will affect anything anytime soon because it’s still in the trial stages and nothing is confirmed, plus I see many Nigerians refusing it because of all we’ve heard and read on social media spaces and a major question on the lips of many remains “Why not try the vaccine in countries with worse numbers and mortality”? There are still some who don’t believe in the virus even in the developed countries. Social distancing where commercial buses and markets are still full plus the way people living in the slums co-habit isn’t actually social distancing. So, we will just continue living the way we’ve been with
Generally, viruses are self-limiting and most leave untreated. For those with mild symptoms, I’d advise that they try to get tested first of all, so it can help the country know how bad we got hit and help better contact tracing in case they have people around them that it could not be mild on. Because being with mild symptoms or none at all doesn’t mean someone can’t transmit the disease. But generally, Vitamins would do to help boost the immune system and standard dose of paracetamol for any fever. People should ensure they get tested to reduce the spread. How long should it take to know whether or not you are out of the woods just in case you have or think you got a mild dose of the virus? What key things do you look out for to know if it has left your system?
16
Like I said earlier, I’d advise anyone with symptoms to get tested. There are different criteria to be sure one is clear of the virus. Very important is two negative PCR results 48 hours apart. There are other criteria also I can’t fully discuss here. You can refer to the NCDC guidelines for discharging a patient for that.

How can you tell the difference between having the flu, malaria, cough and the Corona virus? Though similar in symptoms, what differentiates them from the virus? Personally, what steps have you had to take to ensure you protect your family and loved ones from contracting the virus?
17
It is true some of these diseases mentioned present with similar symptoms like fever, headache, generalized aches and pains, fatigue, etc. The most common distinctive symptoms of covid-19 are; dry cough and shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing, diarrhea, loss of smell and taste. Some of the patients with covid-19 may have a history of contact with infected person(s) or a history of travel to countries with cases of covid-19. Some of these patients may be asymptomatic despite being highly contagious. Another difference is seen in complications. With flu, complications are less likely to occur because of immunity built up over time, whereas, in covid-19, severe respiratory complications may come on extremely quickly. Education is key!!! I always emphasize on the importance of practicing hand and respiratory hygiene at all times, as well as, maintaining at least 2-meter distance between themselves and others even while wearing a face mask.
18
Having been described as flu like, does this mean that like the flu, if you have had the virus before you can have it again?
As the covid-19 outbreak continues to evolve, there remains a lot of uncertainty. There is currently no evidence that people who have recovered from covid-19 and have antibodies are protected from a second infection, but experts say that patients who test positive again after recovery are not cases of

Aside from the academics and practice of Medicine, we know Doctors are psychologically trained to handle ailments of any sorts. Apparently there is also an oath all Doctors have to swear by before they become medical practitioners. What is this oath called and what does it represent or mean?
Although medical Doctors rarely encourage the herbal medicinal approach, we have heard of various conditions like the turmeric/ginger/ lemon/honey where you boil in water and inhale the vapor. We have also heard about placing onions on your chest overnight to expunge the impurities inside your body. What is your take on remedies like this?
19
It is called the Hippocratic oath. It is the oath of ethics and obligation taken by a physician at the commencement of his/her medical practice. Over time, the medical community has changed this oath to accommodate the shifts in Medicine and our society, but the core values remain the same. In the oath, the physician pledges to prescribe only

Dozens of possible vaccines are in various stages of development around the world. Some have begun clinical trials; however, certain things cannot be rushed. Even when researchers find a vaccine that works against covid-19, it could take 12-18 months before it’s ready for the public.
Choose Your Bling Wisely Use Shoes to Change Your Look
A bandage dress is the ultimate totem of complete body confidence but does require footwear that compliments either in form or colour. Usually, these will be heels or full-blown stilettos. Try giving your dress the little oomph it needs by matching your shoes to your dress.
Add Texture to Your Dress with Layers
One of the easiest ways to up-style your dress is to pair it with a matching duster or blazer. Adding these items will give your dress texture and a polished look.
POKELLO NARE
All you need are a few statement pieces of jewellery to style your dress to perfection. A good rule of thumb is to choose your silver based on the neckline of your dress. Wear dresses with plunging necklines with long necklaces and noticeable pendants. Understated and elegant jewellery works best for work events and formal occasions while chunky and flashy jewellery screams casual and relaxed. Alternating your silver is one of the more straightforward approaches to styling your bandage dress.
TOKE MAKINWA
I think herbal remedies can and should only be embraced when there is scientific evidence proving that these remedies can be used in treating the illness, as well as establishing their efficacy and safety through rigorous clinical trials. It’s important to understand that although many herbal, dietary supplements and some prescription drugs come from natural sources, “natural” doesn’t always mean it’s a safer or better option for your health. Also, caution must be taken against misinformation, especially on social media about the effectiveness of certain remedies. Many plants and substances are being proposed without the minimum requirements and evidence of quality, safety and efficacy. The use of products to treat covid-19, which have not been critically investigated can put people in danger, giving a false sense of security and distracting them from hand hygiene and physical distancing which are important in covid-19 prevention and may also increase self-medication and the risk to patient safety.
Hair Styles Impact Overall Looks
Varying your hairstyle is one of the most affordable and simple ways to change the look of your dress. If you find that you usually wear your hair up, consider letting it flow freely and adding voluminous curls to the ends. However, always ensure that the hairstyle you choose in the end will match your dress, in particular, its neckline.
Bags and Clutches are Friends
Knowing how much or how little to accessorize your dress is half the battle won. When it comes to bandage dresses, less is always more. Carrying the right bag serves to dress up or dress down your outfit with ease and little effort. One rule of thumb to remember is that the size of your handbag should be inversely proportional to how formal the event is. An official evening party requires a clutch purse that is just enough to carry your bare essentials, for daytime or informal event, opt for a trendy bag that complements your dress and mood.

The bandage dress was a gift to the fashion world from the 1990s, a collection of form-fitting dresses that showed off every inch of the feminine profile. Over the years, the bandage dresses have become an indispensable part of every woman’s wardrobe, and remain as hot as ever. Bandage dresses are closet staples for many of us because you do not need to have a perfect figure to pull them off. BATTLE OF THE BULGE - PART 8 Recap and vital statistics: I am 5 feet and 10 inches tall and 60 years old. I was super-slim till about 10 years ago, then gradually got fat. I started this weight loss programme on March 16th when I weighed a whopping 120kg and measured 49-47-51 (chest-waisthips) inches. I’ve had ups and downs - bad days when I reverted to gluttony and did little or no exercise…and good days when I’ve dieted/exercised conscientiously. Fortunately, the good days have outnumbered the bad days; and I now weigh 111kg and measure 47-44.5-48.5. Eagle-eyed readers will notice that this week’s numbers are exactly the same as last week’s; and the reason is simple: I’ve repeatedly let myself down in recent days. I won’t go into the embarrassing details. Suffice it to say that having sworn – to myself and on this page – that I would adopt a disciplined fast-track strategy and eat like a bird and exercise like a cheetah, with a view to losing 2-3kg in 7 days, I did the complete opposite. But we need to thank God for small mercies; and I’m grateful that I - miraculously! – didn’t gain an ounce, despite massive misbehaviour. If truth be told, I’ve been struggling to stabilise psychologically because my mother is very ill; and it’s hard to be strict about food and exercise when you are witnessing a once elegant and accomplished parent painfully inching towards the end of her life. OK so, I am trying to figure out how to drag myself out of the doldrums and motivate myself to resume my weight loss journey, bearing in mind that looking slim is not my only priority. I also want to avoid obesity-related ailments like heart disease and diabetes. Last week, I said I would try Dr Michael Moseley’s crash diet (800 calories a day). But I’m currently finding the prospect of such hardline abstemiousness too daunting; and I thought I should share the different alternative diet plans I’m looking at with you guys. Americans spend $65 BILLION a year on weight loss and I got these ideas from the American Healthline website, which is free, so try it! There’s a quiz on the website that asks you to list your dietary preferences and then suggests diet plans that might suit you. My quiz results threw up the following options: Mediterranean Diet has a long-standing reputation as one of the healthiest eating patterns around. It’s also considered one of the most popular plans among dieters because it’s flexible, rich in flavorful foods, and brimming with health benefits Mayo Clinic Diet is a balanced meal plan that focuses on healthy foods and regular exercise. Because it significantly cuts calories, it’s probably helpful for weight loss. That said, it may be restrictive and hard to follow.
TIMES… CAN WE CHOOSE TO LIVE AND NOT DIE? OF
The Weight Watchers Diet is a good choice if you’re looking for slow and steady weight loss. It also has a strong support network that may help keep you on track. Flexitarian Diet focuses mostly on minimally processed, plant-based foods, but encourages meat and animal products in moderation. It may aid weight loss and reduce the risk of some chronic diseases. Paleo Diet may help you lose weight, promote heart health, and support blood sugar control. However, it restricts several healthy food groups and may be more expensive than other diets Dash Diet may be an easy and effective way to reduce blood pressure in people with high blood pressure, thereby lowering the risk of heart disease. Pollotarian Diet focuses on whole, plant-based foods and includes poultry in moderation. It may benefit heart health, aid weight loss, and protect against type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases. Flexible Dieting allows you to eat anything as long as you stay within specific daily macronutrient targets. If you have a good understanding of your nutritional needs and can keep processed snack foods to a minimum, this diet may help you lose weight. Traditional Indian Diet emphasizes plant foods like vegetables, lentils, and fruits, and includes meat occasionally. Eating these foods while cutting back on sugary foods and beverages and increasing protein intake may help you lose weight. Too many choices each one involving an array of pros and cons. I don’t actually believe in astrology. The story is told of a missionary expedition that went on a medical outreach in the remote parts of Lagos State. Accessible only by water, dugout canoes the main mode of transportation, the community was cut off from the bustling metropolis and devoid of all the many amenities that reminds one of being a part of a larger society. As the expedition prepared to return home, they sighted a young girl hiding by her small, dilapidated home. Something about her stopped them in their tracks and approaching her they found a beautiful girl, not looking a day older than thirteen with an arm so heavily infected it had grotesque open sores oozing with fluid. The pain on the girls face was palpable as was the shame in her soul. It turned out she was eighteen years old and for four years had carried this burden, dropping out of school and kept hidden from sight. The doctors took one look and determined to transfer her to the city where the battle to save the arm began. For nine months they tried, cleaning, treating, grafting, medicating until one day they concluded the infection had gone so deep for so long her entire being was now in danger and if they would save her life they needed to lose her arm. It was a big decision to make for she was also left handed and learning to cope with one arm was tough enough not to talk of now learning to do everything from scratch with your weaker hand. With unparalleled bravery, already displayed all through the battle to save her arm, she went to the theatre and her entire arm was taken. The Creator of All mankind set within each one a freedom of choice, the highest of which is that over life and death. Because life comes in various forms, death also has its dimensions too but in every case, human beings have been given the authority to make choices that will either lead to sustaining life or accelerating death. Having chosen not to die, she took to life with gusto, learnt in record time to use her right hand, writing, crafting, drawing and painting. She determined to return to school and succeeded in securing a place in one of the country’s foremost private secondary schools on a full scholarship. As I watched her leading her peers and even adults by example I was buoyed by how her story reflects everything wrong about our nation and yet fully embodies everything possible too. Like the diseased arm that was slowly taking her life, Nigeria desperately needs a surgical procedure that removes the corrupt cancer of inept leadership killing us thereby releasing the spirit of hope that restores life. We the people are the surgeons so when the time comes again may we choose life over death.

J Crew becomes the first retailer in the US to file for bankruptcy during the Covid 19 crisis J. Crew Group has announced that it has begun its Chapter 11 proceedings in federal bankruptcy court in Virginia. The company, which includes the brands J. Crew and Madewell, is the first retailer in the U.S. to file for bankruptcy protection since the COVID-19 pandemic forced retailers across the country to close brick-and-mortar stores for at least six weeks. J. Crew said that it has reached an agreement with its lenders to restructure its debt and deleverage its balance sheet. Its lenders will convert about 1.65 billion dollars of the company’s debt into equity, which J. Crew hopes will help it position its brands for long-term
success. The company has also confirmed that Madewell will remain part of J. Crew Group, as several had wondered whether the company might decide to sell the brand off. J. Crew will continue to focus on its e-commerce businesses for both brands, which now represents at least 50 percent of total revenues. Since the company closed its stores in March, it has been holding sales through its e-commerce sites, such as limited timesitewide sales or discounts on clearance items.

The online video platform held what it dubbed the “first-of-its-kind” virtual fashion show and behind-the-scenes event of Carine Roitfeld’s CR Runway and amfAR against Covid-19. The event brought together some of the industry’s most iconic names and faces, filmed from their homes or places of social isolation, to offer a moment of creative inspiration and uplifting entertainment. The event aims to raise awareness for research efforts led by the amfAR Fund to Fight COVID-19 and was directed by Fabien Constant and hosted by Derek Blasberg, Head of Fashion and Beauty, YouTube. Participating designers included Virgil Abloh, Kim Kardashian, Pier PaoloPiccioli, Diane von Furstenberg, Riccardo Tisci, Olivier Rousteing, Simon Porte Jacquemus and Maria Grazia Chiuri amongst others. Models were filmed walking makeshift catwalks in their kitchens, living rooms and balconies, giving viewers a glimpse of high fashion from inside their homes. Asos scales up augmented reality to support social distancing Online retailer Asos has confirmed that it is accelerating its use of augmented reality (AR) technology to simulate real-life model photography to support social distancing in its studios, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. This follows the development and successful trial of its augmented reality tool, ‘See My Fit’ earlier this year, created in partnership with Israeli AR company Zeekit that offers customers a simulated view of a product in different sizes and on different body types. The use of the AR technology means that Asos can offer customers a simulated view of up to 500 products each week on six real-life models, as it digitally maps each product onto the model in a realistic way, taking account of the size, cut and fit of each garment. The technology ensures product presentation remains as “realistic and engaging as possible” explains Asos, while supporting social distancing by removing the need for models to enter the Asos studios. The introduction of the new tech follows a range of Asos initiatives designed to protect model and staff wellbeing, including asking models and Asos Insiders to shoot products from home, and using more ‘flat shot’ images where items are photographed on a hanger rather than on a model.
Supermodel Naomi Campbell Shoots Her Own Magazine Cover with Her Phone
The Queen Launches Creative New Initiative For Kids During Coronavirus Lockdown
Supermodel Naomi Campbell can add professional photographer to her résumé as she recently made history by becoming the first cover star to shoot her own photos for Essence Magazine - also the first time in the publication’s 50-year history that a cover was shot entirely on an iPhone. “While it was a sad reminder for me of all the people in media and production who are not able to work due to the coronavirus, it also brought me hope and encouragement to know that our people and our infrastructures are resilient”, Campbell told Essence. The 50th anniversary issue, to be released May 12, is Campbell’s seventh appearance on the cover. NAOMI
The Queen has announced a new crafting initiative for children on the Royal Family’s Twitter page. The post read: “Every Monday we’ll be sharing fun activities and learning resources for your children to enjoy at home. Today, why not design your own #Investiture medal? Download @RCT’s worksheet here.” The accompanying picture is an outline of an investiture medal which can be coloured in and QUEEN ELIZABETH II adapted. Beside the drawing were the questions: “What colours are you going to use? What patterns and symbols are you going to include? Maybe you want to add something that symbolises you or your family?” A further instruction added: “Personalize your medal thinking about what makes your achievement special or why you are being honoured.” To help children understand the significance of the medal, a second Twitter post on the craft idea clarified: “Medals are given to The Queen or other members of The Royal Family to people for special achievements, bravery, services to the United Kingdom. Who would your medal be for? Share your designs with us below!” The Royal Collection Trust resources, linked in the original Tweet, also includes numerous activities for children to enjoy – from a worksheet on decorating a room at the palace, to designing a carriage and even your own crown!
