There’s a Yoruba word, Otoge. I initially did not know what it meant but it simply means Enough is Enough! Enough of police killings. Enough of innocent lives being taken at their prime. Enough of police brutality. Enough of using weapons meant to protect us to harm us. Enough of oppression, suppression and possession. Enough of hunger. Enough of anger. Enough of hopes dashed. Enough of pain. Enough of bitterness. Enough of austerity. Enough of bad governance. Enough of suffering. Enough of dreams dashed. Enough of undeserving worthlessness. Enough of voices lost. Enough of everything and anything that stunts our growth as a people. Enough is Enough! It is with great pride l watch our youths take a stand. Take a stand because they have been pushed to the edge and finally...finally...the boat has toppled over. Finally the voice of the masses have been heard. Finally the youths have taken a stand! They will not keep quiet anymore. They will not sit back and turn the other cheek anymore. They will not tolerate the untold brutality meted out at them anymore. Trust deficit is a major problem now between the police and the youths. The President needs to address the nation to give their morales a boost. The government needs to embark on reforms of the entire police force starting from recruitment level where they are taught how to relate with the public properly. SARS is a product of inherent defects in our system. The basic principles of democracy states that power belongs to the people and not the government elected by the people they are meant to serve. Now that the youths are being heard loud and clear, now that they have plucked up the courage to move from underdog to top dog, now that the world has seen and felt their pain, maybe, just maybe, the government can finally LISTEN AND ACT to quench this flame that has been incited and long overdue! THE YOUTHS TAKE A STAND!

I

t is indeed a great time to be alive, the youth have defiled all odds and come together to protest against Police brutality in Nigeria in a campaign tagged #ENDSARS. The youth dared to take a stand demanding for the Nigerian Government to put a stop the Special Anti-robbery Squad who on a daily basis, harass and kill young men and women just for looking a certain way or having certain gadgets or driving certain cars. The youths of Nigeria are saying enough is a enough and are also demanding total reform of the police force amidst other issues affecting them as average Nigerians. It is something to applaud; that these young men and women who have been tagged by these same oppressors as ‘Lazy’ are the ones trying to fix a problem they didn’t create. But this is not only a protest but a cry for freedom. Freedom against oppression. Freedom against the laws that do not protect the land. Freedom from untold sufferings and hardship

meted out on youths who played no role in the decay of the economy as it is today. These youths are victims of men with guns not well trained on when and how to use them. These gun holders are children of the poor the government failed to train. And today, there are not allowing the children of today live in peace. These are uniformed men in their bulletproof regalia meant to protect us. They are meant curb armed robbery but instead, they are the armed robbers! They terrorize, bully and intimidate. With a pitiful salary of N50k a month, living in the most inhabitable accommodations, having barely enough to feed themselves talk-less of their families, should it really come as a surprise that they are frustrated tyrants preying on the ‘supposed privileged’ innocent victims? A hungry man has no conscience. A hungry and angry man...with a gun at his disposal...well, one can only imagine falling prey to such a person. So is it a wonder that victims have lost their lives under their watch? No!

These SARD men have terrorized, maimed and brutally killed innocent victims unfortunate enough to have been at the wrong end of their weapons. How many innocent lives have to be lost before the gauntlet is thrown? How many homes have to be broken with such a loss? How many mothers have to unfold their wrappers and embrace their breasts in anguish as they shed harrowing tears of pain at the loss of their children in the hands of SARS operatives? Which youth has ever heard anything good about Nigeria? When have they ever experienced peace in this land that used to flow with milk and honey? All they hear was ‘When we were’ not ‘How we are’! How long can they live under such untold hardship thrust upon them because our leaders failed us! If they do not fight for better rulership, better governance, better infrastructure, better political systems, better management of the nation’s revenues, there will be no Nigeria worth living in in time to come. As parents, we did not fight strongly enough and this generation is not going to sit back and fold their arms like we did. With the funds they have raised, they have done more than what the government did with a zillion times more. They have taken control of their situation and are sending their message across with peaceful protests. So organized are they that they have no leader. They all speak with one voice. The protest is happening nation

wide and these young Nigerians have been able to organize themselves in a way that they have no leaders but are demanding collectively that till they start to see changes, the protest will go on. And how have they been able to sustain this protest nation wide for over eight days you ask?! The revelations are simply amazing. They have been able to pull together funds in millions which are on a daily basis, transparently disbursed to different states in Nigeria through a group to help sustain the protesters. Food and water is delivered on a daily basis at different locations with the protesters cleaning up after themselves so as not to litter the streets. Mobile toilets are available for easy convenience, lawyers are available to represent detained protesters, doctors on ground to help the injured or attend to any sudden medical emergency that arise during the long hour of protest and much more. These young adults have held it down for days and don’t look like they are ready to throw in the towels till their demands are met. In their own little way they have showed us that things can work if we all speak in one voice. They are showing the older generation and the Nigerian Government that the system can work only if, everyone plays their part and play it well and fair. They want to live and most importantly, they want a Nigeria that they will be proud of. The ENDSARS movement is indeed a wakeup clarion call and now is the time for us all to stand united and the youth have shown us just how.

VOICES FROM THE STREET PROTEST “We are sick of having to complain about one police incident or the other. The people that are supposed to be protecting us are harassing us, they are robbing us, they are killing us! These men must get off our streets. No going back, no backing down. We have put up with this menace for too long. Young innocent lives are being cut short too often. So much harassment, so much extortion. It’s time to #ENDSARS for good”. FALZ (Artiste)

“This is just the beginning. Now they know we have a voice! And we the youths understand the power we have. We shall continue to speak up about other pressing issues/police brutality and good governance!”

Now, more than ever, the government needs to realize that the change we seek is being brought not by them but by the youth, if you can’t listen to us, the protest will not stop, if you don’t implant our response, we will come out in more numbers, play time is done. The sadness in Nigeria now is felt so deeply, the people want change, we are tired, our tired is tired, being Nigerian does not have to be this hard. #end sarsnowow#endsarsbrutality#end policebrutality TOKE MAKINWA (Media Personality)

“This has gone long enough and we MUST take action! I will be leading a protest to #ENDSARS on Thursday, October 8th 2020. They MUST listen to us, they MUST make/effects REAL and VISIBLE changes! Empty promises won’t work this time”.

RUNTOWN (Artiste)

“We spent the night in front of the Lagos House to pass across a Loud message! We are still here!!! Please join us now!! The message is loud and clear; We are Tired!!!! Now is the time for the Youths of this Nation to rise and secure whatever is left of our future!! Or else there will be nothing left for us and our unborn children!!! We cannot continue to hope and pray for things to become better. We must stand up and claim our future! If we do not, the suffering, brutality and deaths have only just started!!! E go red!!! Wake Up my brothers and Sisters”!!!! #AlutaContinua

We just celebrated our 60th Independence Day but tell me one thing that is working for us to celebrate? It is not over my beautiful people, it has just begun. God forbid that Jamil will grow up and nothing has changed or has even gotten worse. We will hold these leaders accountable. They have played with our lives for too long. They live like rock stars with our money. It is time to call them all out TIWA SAVAGE (Artiste)

“The state of our country, Nigeria is tricky; it has been from before I was born. My greatest concern in all of this is that SARS will end now as it allegedly has several times in the past (I recall giving calls to end SARS during my USA tour in April 2019 and it morphed into a different entity down the line with a different form or a different name. In my opinion, abolishing the unit is a definite first step but we cannot afford to stop there.” BURNA BOY (Artiste)

“Amidst it all. We must not forget the reasons we are protesting; we must not forget the peaceful manner of the protests and we must most certainly not back down until our demands are met! You either live for something or you die for nothing. SARS ending is a great start but the task is far from completed! Now let’s end police brutality as a whole”. DAVIDO (Artiste)

“My niece was harassed by SARS for carrying a laptop. Her own laptop, she was slapped across the face for simply asking why her laptop was being seized. At only 13, she had to deal with police brutality. Complaints were made and nothing was done. No one is spared and we are all affected. Mr President, this is the current state of your country: the stability of a nation is largely dependent on leadership and every head of house has one chance to build their legacy. Sir you’ve had two, how poor the country is today is a reflection of your leadership, your legacy. I am getting weary and tired of being optimistic about change but even then, I can’t complain. I am one of the privileged few but that doesn’t mean that I get to give up now. Enough is enough we are better than this. #endsars #endsarsbrutality GENEVIEVE NNAJI (Actress/Producer)

“I have been fighting for over 40 years precisely against this system of democratic rule where the police have the authorization to shoot innocent protestors on the streets. What is happening on the streets of Nigeria right now is unacceptable and every police officer and government must be held accountable for every life lost because this is a peaceful protest, the police are meant to protect lives and property, the police are meant to protect the citizens of this country not kill the citizens.” #endsars #endpolicebrutality FEMI KUTI (Artiste)

“How can our own people be killing our own people? Everyone is tired of singing the same song over and over. Perpetrators have been given a blank cheque, and cloak of protection for FAR too long. Arbitrary killings, kidnappings and extortion not only need to stop, but erring officers MUST be punished. No country can progress if officers that rape, kill, kidnap, extort, bully (both in and out of uniform) are not forced to face the repercussions of their actions. The entire system that oils this behaviour must be stopped”. And its heart-warming to see the younger generation (men and women even younger than I am) spear heading this. I’d like to extend my condolences to the families affected in any way by the excesses of SARS. I also want to commend our teeming youths for their peaceful protests going on right now in various states of the Federation. Even though the intention of the unit SARS was to maintain security, it has been taken the other way round. It has gone beyond just calling hotlines, it has gone beyond having reforms. The National Assembly really needs to look into it. The IG of Police needs to consider. We are working for the people. If the unit we set up is not working for the people and the people are calling for its disbandment, then let us do what they are saying. DESMOND ELLIOT (Politician)

IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE YOUTHS ARE RISKING THEIR LIVES TO PROTEST, HERE ARE A FEW REASONS WHY... IFEOMA ABUGU, 20, a young lady who had just graduated and was in NYSC, was arrested in place of her fiancee at his residence in Lokogoma, Abuja. How to Maintain Grillz... To prevent problems, try and 1. limit the amount of time spent

wearing removable grills. If you are already wearing a grill, you should remove it before eating. It should be cleaned daily to remove bacteria and food debris. Avoid using jewelry cleaners or any products that are dangerous to ingest.

2.

Although grillz may initially feel comfortable, ill-fitted grills can wear away at the tooth’s enamel and lead to painful toothaches and even headaches. With long periods of use, badly fitted grills can also permanently move teeth into a new, unhealthy position. The mildest method of cleaning gold, the easiest and most economical, is to mix a bowl of warm water and a little dishwashing liquid into a sudsy solution. Soak the gold jewellery briefly and then gently scrub crevices and design details using a soft toothbrush or eyebrow brush.

3.

Use toothpaste and toothbrush to clean the grill, but make sure you brush twice a day. Also ensure that the toothpaste you use is not deadening the natural glitter of your teeth grills. Carefully take the grills and silicone bar out of the water and firmly place the grills onto your teeth, adjusting if necessary. After holding the grills there for 30 seconds, the silicone bar should harden and you will now have removable grills that fit perfectly to the shape of your teeth.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PREMADE AND CUSTOM-FITTED GRILLZ

($800.00)

Pre-made grills, or affordable goldplated grills, come in one standard size that fits most. They are made from stainless steel or jeweller’s brass and then plated with real gold. You simply purchase your grills and it will come with everything you need to adjust your mouth piece to ensure a comfortable fit. Custom-fitted grills, or solid gold grills, are a more expensive option because they are hand made from pure gold or solid sterling silver and designed to fit an impression of your teeth perfectly. First, you will receive everything you need to create an impression of your teeth then it will be used by your impression to create a custom-fitted grillz designed to give an exact fit to the shape and size of your teeth. Grills come in Sterling Silver, as well as 10K, 14K, and 18K Yellow Gold, White Gold, and Rose Gold. They are solid style, connecting bridge, and open face style grillz.
