BIGGER AND BETTER
NORTHEAST OHIO’S MUSEUMS AND ATTRACTIONS JUST KEEP THE HITS COMING.

> The Beat Goes On The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame turned 25 in 2020, but it isn’t gathering any moss. A planned $100 million expansion will add a guitar pick-shaped addition packing 50,000 square feet of new exhibition and event space. Plus, a new band shell overlooking Lake Erie will crank up the volume for concerts and performances. (As if you needed yet another excuse to revel in this iconic CLE landmark.) > Fossil-Fueled The only thing bigger than the massive dinosaur skeletons at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History is its ongoing $150 million expansion. Not only did the 100-year-old museum recently gave facelifts to its courtyard, main lobby and auditorium, but it’s also adding a new 50,000-square-foot wing that will welcome guests with new educational opportunities and signature collection items like human ancestor, Lucy, and moon rocks upon completion in 2024. > 117 Reasons to Get Excited Imagine a sprawling LGBTO+ community hub with 100,000 square feet spread across three complexes—including bars, retail, entertainment, public art and a sports complex called
The Fieldhouse. Enter Studio West 117, currently rising up at the edge of
Lakewood and Cleveland. Slated for a phase-one opening in spring 2022, the project will be anchored by the newly renovated historic Phantasy theater and will also boast Lakewood’s first public rooftop patio. > Touch Down in Canton Canton’s Pro Football Hall of Fame scores big with a ton of upcoming additions to its Hall of Fame Village.
Plans for Phase Two include the Constellation Center for Excellence (a 75,000-square-foot sports research and athletic performance mecca), plus a Hilton Tapestry Hotel and Don Shula’s Steakhouse. Throw in a
Helix Esports entertainment complex and indoor football-themed waterpark, and fans just might never leave.
[ By Tricia L. Chaves ] Pandemic be damned, a slew of new restaurants are ready(ing) to serve the masked masses. Just ask DJ-turnedrestaurateur Kyler Smith, who forecasts warming up the Warehouse District with Filter and Lightroom—bringing Miami vibes and LA luxury to The Land. Nearby on East 4th Street, the aptlynamed Indie will provide the perfect bookend to the Rock Hall as a musicinspired venue. Not far away in The Old Arcade, Puerto Rican specialties rotate weekdays at The Blessed Cafe. Beyond its namesake dishes, Banh Mi & Noodles delights diners with pho, dim sum and rice bowls. And what started as chef Doug Katz’s ghost kitchen concept—the Indianinfluenced Amba—will be a brick-and-mortar in Hingetown.
SHAPING THE SKYLINE
CLEVELAND 2.0 IS ON THE RISE (HIGH-RISE, THAT IS).
The Lumen
By Jen Jones Donatelli and Ken Schneck Downtown Cleveland has a goal of reaching 30,000 residents by 2030, and the city has no shortage of shiny new spots to attract them. Cases in point: the 29-story The Beacon (featuring unobstructed city views) and the 34-story The Lumen (Playhouse Square’s shining star). New projects also abound along Euclid Avenue, including the 23-story City Club Apartments (replete with rooftop pool). For those residents who work at Sherwin-Williams, they’ll soon have a short commute as the new $600 million, 36-story headquarters comes to life nearby Public Square. Outside of Downtown, new investment continues to pour into Cleveland’s neighborhoods, such as Ohio City— where mixed-use development INTRO will be one of the country’s tallest timber-frame building when completed across from the historic West Side Market. But that’s far from the only lofty project in progress! Also in Ohio City, Bridgeworks will bring a mix of residential and retail to the corner of Detroit and West 25th, while Circle Square Development is hard at work bringing more housing, workspace and even a new public library to University Circle. Neighborhoods like Fairfax, Hough and Slavic Village are following suit with ambitious projects-in-progress including Innovation Square, Chester75 and 5115 The Rising, respectively.
