hawnee Mountain Ski Area invites one and all to Costume Carnival Day Sunday, March 19! This festive atmosphere now in its 33rd year, folds a ton of amusement into the mountain’s exhilarating mix of snow sport sensations with perks to joining the day’s celebrations. Come in full costume and grab a FREE same day lift ticket! That’s right—FREE!

While wearing the creative gear on the slopes isn’t necessary, you do have to flaunt it at the ticket window. Judging at a 1 p.m. costume parade makes for an ideal way to promenade for great prizes. Categories set to seize glory include: Best Family, Funniest, Most Original and Best Junior. We ARE family...must be immediate family members such as spouses and children under

the age of 21 living at home with up to four passes permitted for FREE. Let’s reiterate—costumes are clearly a must to participate. Shawnee reserves the right to decide whether or not the getup qualifies, so while just wearing face paint, masks, jewelry, swords or sports jerseys may be a hoot; it doesn’t qualify for the day’s loot—prizes or the free lift ticket.

aking time to appreciate tremendous talent flourishing throughout the region has venues, with good reason, inviting guests to take in free live performances. Advocating the experience of enjoying these outstanding local vocals is considered an ideal situation; as patrons partake in not only fantastic tunes, they get to converse with them before or after they rehearse. Calling local performers, “Talented, altruistic and just great people,” Barley Creek Brewing Company owner Trip Ruvane explains, “The artists are mostly playing for the guests so a lot of cover songs with skilled instrumentals, and yes, original scores just add to the artistry of making fun.” Performing May 11 at the Tannersville destination, Joe O’Malley responds, “Barley

Creek is one of my favorites [places to perform].” Playing for more than 10 years with a lengthy playlist alongside, he agrees, “Interacting with people makes it much more fun.” From soloists and duos, to the outrageously popular bands of Summerfest, Ruvane shares some insight on why melodies matter.

“Barley Creek’s goal is to create a memorable experience for our guests,” he vows, adding, “Live music that you won’t find at most of the chain restaurants helps create memories and that experience.” Obliging an encore for more he smiles,” Everyone loves music.”

s winter makes way to a springtime mix of “play,” we’ve collected a few pointers from our area animal friends on how to win the affection of their female selection with This Week’s fun fact courtesy of Bill Williams from the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Did you know With the breeding season for Pennsylvania bobcats taking place right about now, it’s good to know how far a male bobcat is willing to go traveling up to 20 miles in a single night in search of a receptive female.

How about how those male Timberdoodles! When these feathery “flirters” set sights on “wooing” females, they go way out of the way flying upwards of 300 feet on twittering wings before spiraling back to earth in a zigzag pattern sounding a liquid, warbling song. So take it from these Pocono Mountains hopeful romantics when considering what tactical antics intended to attract—before you act.

ocono Irish American Club was founded over 40 years ago with a mission to, “Promote and preserve Irish and American culture.” Since its inception, the organization has enlisted ongoing efforts to further exemplify this illustrious heritage with none more recognizable than the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Just under two miles embodies a Main Street route through the Borough of Stroudsburg. Eastward on ending in East Stroudsburg, festivities are set to start 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 19. Lined with a seemingly endless tapestry of emerald green, generations of spectators

and participants revel in the day’s festivities. Calling the event “A great day for the Poconos,” Club President, Ken Corcoran comments,” We appreciate everybody who supports our club and the parade.” Title sponsor two years running, Bob Kelly of Kelly Realty Group, agrees, “It’s a great family atmosphere on Main Street.” “I’ve watched it grow in popularity,” he smiles, observing not only a “robust” assortment of amazing parade participants but the boost for area businesses.

Reasoning, ”The parade drives people to downtown Stroudsburg,” he invites others to join in applause and merriment with a day spent curbside cheering for area organizations while supporting Pocono Irish American Club’s ongoing communitywide efforts. Go on...grab your greenery and take in some sensational Sunday scenery surrounded by great food, fun and St. Patty’s Day prolonged festivities with one of the Poconos prominent parades presented by Pocono Irish American Club March 19.

hen thinking of building a home, questions come to mind on what to do and where to find a reputable resource as you chart the course toward new construction. As home shows slate dates across the region March into April, John Holahan of Liberty Homes Custom Builders in Pocono Lake, shares reasons to attend and where he chose to station his annual participation. “We know people are trying to gather as much information they can in

order to decide where to build and with whom,” he comments, adding, “These home shows allow interested home buyers an opportunity to vet several companies within an afternoon.”

The Pocono Mountains premier builder for nearly 40 years with a pulse on communitywide growth reminds, “Reject the premise one size fits all,” reasoning, “You want a home to fit YOUR needs and personality.”

Noting, “They [home buyers] don’t have to decide there and then what they will build and who will build it they just have to decide who stays on their list of possible home builders, and who doesn’t,” he smiles.
