ver 20 years S&S Speedways has fueled a passion for racing. Today, this Stroudsburg indoor gokart facility continues to ignite the excitement that all began as a spark of inspiration shared between two kart racing pros. Randy & Denise Smith met as teens on the circuit. A long family history of racing fostered a fierce passion for the sport with both achieving high ranking National Champion honors.

to become a “home-away-fromhome” for those with a passion for the sport. “Private parties are very popular,” tells Denise with birthday, bachelor/ bachelorette, holiday, corporate team building and “just for fun” parties grabbing a lot of attention, as well as “off season” practice. “S&S Speedways is the perfect place to get seat time,” say

Quarter Midget Racecar drivers Mackenzie and Gracie Hixon. While the pair embraces warm weather track get-togethers, they agree this indoor opportunity keeps them in tune when the chill is in season admitting parties still rank high in their eyes gushing,” It’s an exciting and competitive place to have fun with friends.”

It’s their “lifelong passion for racing” that inspired the couple to create a destination for sharing this sensation with new and experienced riders. From groups that meet monthly assembling teams for a routine race; to occasions bearing little need for persuasion for one and all to join in the fun, the facility has grown

ith age comes experience, add in a beautiful atmosphere and you’ve got the catalyst behind Crescent Lodge’s success spanning over 70 years! A blend of bucolic scenery with lush greenery surrounds this Paradise Valley destination with exceptional food and lodging opportunities to relax and enjoy all the area has to offer. Looking back, owner Bob Dunlop shares the family history on how Crescent came to be a Pocono Mountains “headquarters” with a centralized location considered key to the family owned operation’s success.

“We’re [Crescent Lodge] close to probably everything you can think of,” he smiles, listing attractions to find all the action with a mix of serenity for relax-in’ that makes everything come together as an ideal retreat that started with his father. Reliving a childhood surrounded by family friends invited to stay for a day (or two); he recalls it soon became a Friday night ritual to pickup way more than a few guests at the old train station. The once nine room, one cottage site; evolved seemingly overnight to 30 comfortable accommodations with 12 in the stately main building and 18 private cottages.

A then “one choice menu” now features an a la carte collection of fine dining selections thanks to the creativity of his son, Executive Chef Wayne Dunlap. The blend of gourmet and traditional cuisine is considered an ideal meal option for lodge guests wanting to stay on-scene, as well as attracting a loyal local following. Looking to the future, a full circle selection of superb surroundings, tranquil lodging and fabulous fare continue to make Crescent Lodge lookin’ good as a place where guests can visit or stay for a true mountain getaway.

* While enjoying these waterfalls, remember that although these places are beautiful, visitors must always exercise caution. Water-splashed rocks & paths around streams and rivers can become very slippery, and swimming in these areas is never recommended.

Let’s turn our attention to one of nature’s own fast flying phenomenon. A Pocono Mountains inhabitant that is simply astounding!

The Peregrine Falcon, a Pennsylvania endangered bird species, feeds exclusively on other birds by striking them in flight. In a vertical dive called a “stoop,” an adult peregrine can reach speeds of over 200 miles per hour traveling faster than any other animal on the planet! Joe Kosack/PGC Photo
