T
he local pick that packs a kick, Pocono Garlic Festival returns to Shawnee Mountain Labor Day Weekend, Saturday & Sunday, September 3 & 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bursting with garlicious food and fun for everyone, this annual festival not only opens doors to innovative uses for garlic, it’s filled with live entertainment, cooking demos, displays and more! Delivering details into the festival’s 1994 formation, Sharon Rothman tells how four family-owned farms spawned the gathering with the goal of igniting enthusiasm for this popular “Bumper” crop. Low and behold 22 years later, garlicky gala numbers continue to grow. “People get really passionate about garlic,” Rothman describes adding, “It’s infused in our culture and in just about every ethnic dish you can imagine.” On event vendor variations, PGF Chef Dan Rothman adds, “The festival committee takes pride that no two are alike, with several dozen garlic stations that are enough to make anyone’s mouth salivate.”

full steam ahead to Scranton
“[I
t’s the] time of your life without a dime in your pocket,” a draw Chris DiMattio considers continuously attracting visitors to LA FESTA ITALIANA more than 40 years. This free festival embracing Italian heritage sights, sounds and tastes, collides with the rich culture of Downtown Scranton September 2nd through the 5th with a clever mix of family friendly fun. From local merchants and over 80 vendors; to kid’s rides and an outstanding entertainment lineup, there are endless
opportunities to explore what’s in store...and on stage.
Performers including The DUPREES, The EURORHYTHMS and The POETS fill four stages, with cameos sure to amaze from Nikki Rasmus’ tribute to Connie Francis, to DiMattio’s own salute to Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin featuring Kenny McGraw & Brass & Ivory Band. Opening doors to experience all this Labor Day Weekend excitement, organizers encourage a look-see into
everything stirring in and around Scranton with DiMattio agreeing, “You can do so much within a one mile radius!”

hey grow up so fast...CLAWS ‘N’ PAWS—the unique animal experience tucked away in the beautiful mountainesque scenery surrounding Lake Ariel, has been welcoming generations of guests to explore the WILD life for over 40 years. Taking a twist and looking at other “generations,” returns our readers for an update on Abby, Alex and Kensie. This feisty trio of truly lovable snow leopard cubs effortlessly draws a crowd ready to witness their mischievous antics. Just 10 weeks old when we last visited in July, the sister and brothers now pounce and play in their pen alongside their parents.
Eager to educate guests, a daily dose of cub data is shared each day at 2 p.m. From a spot situated outside
their home, a park professional tells of their development and growth and by growth we mean an amazing leap to 18 pounds in just over a month. “I think about how lucky I am,” smiles CLAWS ‘N’ PAWS’ Vince Hall referring to the task of playing with the cub cuties during presentations (and as many times a day he possibly can).
October with school group discounts available. General admission is $18.50 for adults, $17.50 seniors age 65 & up with kids age 2-11 $13.50. Don’t miss their coupon below for $1 off each adult ticket!
“They are just a delight to watch running around the pen,” he says, encouraging a visit to meet the cubs along with all the other amazing animals.
