Waverly Antiques Show and Sale The Final Waverly Antiques Show and Sale will take place at the Waverly Community House on Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16. The show, known as the premier showcase for exhibitors in fine antiques and collectibles, will feature displays and representatives from some of the region’s most esteemed dealerships. Guests can browse beautiful glassware from Anne’s Treasures, vintage jewelry from Antique & Estate Jewelry, furniture from Bittersweet Antiques, rare books and prints from The Serious Collector and much more. Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in a Historic Walking Tour with Waverly resident and historian, Robert Jaeger. The tour will focus on the Waverly Historic District with the Waverly Community House as its center. Jaeger will discuss the early settlers of Waverly Township and the important role that Waverly and surrounding towns played in the Underground Railroad. The tour will begin with a brief film in the Scout Room at the Waverly Community House at 2:30 p.m., with the walk immediately following, rain or shine. The Historic Walking Tour is available at no cost to Antiques Show guests. Show hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Autumn in the Poconos Saturday, September 22 is the first day of fall, the Autumnal Equinox. Autumn is a special time in the Poconos, a time when the lush green landscape transforms into a beautiful backdrop of fiery foliage. Because the four-county region encompasses more than 2,000 square miles of vegetation, three distinct color zones emerge with varying peak periods. The Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau maintains a 24-hour Fall Foliage Hotline during September and October to help spectators learn when, where and how to see the most beautiful autumn foliage. Information can be obtained by calling (570) 421-5565. The Pocono Mountains region hosts a variety of autumn celebrations each year. Savor the harvest season with an outdoor Wine Dinner at a farm-to-table restaurant, stop by an exciting Oktoberfest event, or enjoy a memorable day of rustic apple butter-making. September 29 is National Public Lands Day With 117 State Parks and three Conservation Areas, Pennsylvania’s State Park System is among largest in the country. Many of the Commonwealth’s beautiful public parks are located right here in the Poconos, and offer recreation and education opportunities to locals and visitors alike. Once a year, the parks receive special attention during a nationwide volunteer initiative known as National Public Lands Day. This year, National Public Lands Day (NPLD) falls on Saturday, September 29. National Public Lands Day began in 1994 and has grown to become our Nation’s largest single-day volunteer event for public lands. Last year, more than 170,000 volunteers helped improve public sites across the United States. The initiative also supports the Let’s Move Outside program by providing unique opportunities for kids to be active outdoors. Fee free days at National Historic Sites and volunteer programs at local parks provide great opportunities for people of all ages to get active and enjoy Pennsylvania’s public lands.

Tree ID and Trail Walks at Grey Towers The Grey Towers National Historic Site will host Tree ID and Trail Walks on Saturday, September 15 at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The 90-minute walks will be lead by members of the US Forest Service and feature information on the many native and planted trees that have shaded the estate since the 1900s. Gifford and Cornelia Pinchot planted more than 100 trees on the property after it was clear-cut at the turn of the century. Participants will learn about some of the more unique trees and how the estate now serves as a living example of conservation and resource management. The new Grey Towers Tree and Trail Guide will be shared during the programs. Each walk is limited to 20 participants and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Regular tour fees of $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for youth will apply. Walk participants have the option of touring the mansion at half price before or after the programs. Tours will take place rain or shine. Apple Butter-Making at Bushkill Falls Saturday, September 22 is Apple ButterMaking Day at Bushkill Falls! Stop by the “Niagara of Pennsylvania” and experience the day-long process of reducing apples down to rich apple butter. Although the brew begins cooking before the gates open, guests are welcome at 9 a.m., and are encouraged to take turns stirring the sweet concoction in the copper kettle. Enjoy some entertainment while the butter comes together. Ironman 70.3 and Finish Line Festival

Shawnee Mountain Hosts Rodeo & Chili Cook-Off

The Shawnee Mountain Ski Area will host its 16th annual Professional Rodeo on Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23. Experience the excitement as professional cowboys compete in fullysanctioned Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) events including Saddle Bronc Riding, Bull Riding, Bareback Riding, Calf Roping and more. Professional cowgirls will be there to show their skills in Barrel Racing events. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and cheer on the cowboys and girls as they compete for thousands of dollars in prize money, or arrive early for the legendary Chili Cook-off. Rodeo events begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and gates open at 11:30 a.m. for the 5th annual ChiliCookoff. Guests are invited to sample and then vote on a variety of chilis from area restaurants, vendors and individual cooks. Enjoy live country music from the Sidekicks Country Band all weekend, browse the vendors’ bazaar, or take part in line dancing on Saturday afternoon.
