Annual Harvest at Quiet V Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm will host its 38th Annual nnua ual Harvest Festival on Saturday and Sunday, October 6 and 7 from rom 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Themed Going Green - Past and Present, this his year’s festival will include fun and educational activities that showcase ase planetfriendly practices. The festival’s many demonstrations emphasize the early American act of repurposing through skills such as broom making, basketry, spinning and weaving, yarn dyeing, tatting, coopering and more. There will also be demonstrations of early meal preparation methods including butter churning, Dutch oven cooking and outdoor brick oven baking. Enjoy family-friendly autumn entertainment at the Harvest Festival. There will be hearty country food, live folk music and plenty of activities for children including pony rides, storytelling, wagon rides and more. The Civil War Encampment is an annual highlight at the Harvest Festival. The authentic reenactment portrays the drill and everyday life of 19th century soldiers and gives guests a glimpse into local history and heritage. Festivities will be held rain or shine throughout the weekend. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 3 through 12. Quiet Valley is located off Business Route 209 south of Stroudsburg. Shawnee Mountain Hosts Autumn Timber Festival Head to the Shawnee Mountain Ski Area on October 6 and 7 and celebrate autumn in the Poconos at the annual Autumn Timber Festival! The fall favorite returns to the festival grounds with entertaining events and activities for the whole family. Watch amazing Timber Team Lumberjack Shows, see chainsaw sculpture demos, and cheer on the canine athletes of the Marvelous Mutts as they fly through the air in agility and Frisbee showcases. There will be live music from the Cramer Brothers Band and the Lost Ramblers, as well as Wildlife shows from the Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Enjoy great food and crafts from local vendors, see juggling shows and stilt walkers, and watch “Sue Wee” and “Ugly Pig” races. There will be plenty of fun and activities for kids including a Time Travelling Medicine Magic Show. Heighten your festival experience with a mountaintop view of fiery fall foliage. A scenic chairlift ride is a beautiful way to end a day at the Autumn Timber Festival. Activities are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Slopeside seating is available for timber events, and guests are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the gate. Parking for this event is free. Halloween Haunted Lantern Tours Looking for a fun, family-friendly way to celebrate the spirit of the season? Grab a flashlight and head to Eckley Miners’ Village for a Halloween Haunted Lantern Tour! Walk the darkened 19th century streets of the village and encounter spooky scenes sure to entertain! Fright facilitators lead multiple nightly tours along the haunted path and stop for surprises along the way. Ten silly, scary skits will make guests laugh, scream and even sing along. Tours take place on Fridays and Saturdays from October 12 through 28. Doors open at 6 p.m. The first tour departs at 6:30 p.m. and the final tour begins at 9 p.m. sharp. Scary movies will be shown in the Village Auditorium between trips. Guests are encouraged to bring a flashlight, or purchase a lantern at the Village Museum. Ghost Tours at the Old Jail Museum Statuesquely situated above Jim Thorpe’s busy streets is the legendary Old Jail Museum, the site of the infamous Molly Maguire executions. For years, jail employees have heard reports of suspicious disturbances. Guests are encouraged to experience the chilling encounters firsthand during weekly candlelit Ghost Tours at the museum. The tours will be held on October 13, 20 and 27 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and detail the disturbing feelings, strange voices and shadowy images reported in the building. Organizers insist: this is not a “haunted house.” Tour admission costs $10 for adults and $7 for students. The program is not recommended for children under 12 years of age. Town History Jim Thorpe, founded as Mauch Chunk, has a colorful history that dates back to the early 1800s. The 26th Annual Fall Foliage Art Show and Sale will take place minutes from Downtown Hawley at the Dorflinger Glass Cutting Factory in White Mills. Events are scheduled from Friday, October 5 through Sunday, October 7. The beloved autumn showcase benefits local nonprofit organizations and features exhibits from area vendors including Miss Elly’s Antiques & Such and The Glass Hat. Exhibits include estate and fine jewelry, vintage linens and textiles, antique toys and dolls, art glass and porcelain, books and more. Friday’s Patron’s Preview and Harvest Tea will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. and include a “sneak peek” at the show with catered seasonal fare. Admission is $10.
