Train Excursion to Eastburg & Oktoberfest On Saturday, October 15, Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton offers a Train Excursion to East Stroudsburg. You’re invited to this historic occasion, as the East Stroudsburg Community Alliance (ECA) reveals progress on the 1854 East Stroudsburg Railroad Station restoration (Dansbury Depot) with a ribbon cutting, and hosts a daylong celebration in Millers Park. Tour the historic Depot and purchase a snack in the station coffee shop/cafe, enjoy artifacts and images of the station’s history, view a photo documentary of the rehabilitation, and visit the Historic Railroad Switching Tower. In adjacent Millers Park, ECA hosts Oktoberfest with live music and entertainment, railroad groups, vendors, historic organizations, a moon-bounce, pumpkin painting, cider-making, scare-crow building, old-fashioned children’s games, and face painting.

Dansbury Depot Reconstruction

The train, pulled by historic diesel locomotives, departs Steamtown at 9:00am for arrival in East Stroudsburg at 11:15am. After a 2-hour layover, the train returns to Scranton with arrival there at 4:30pm. Tickets are $54.00/ages 17 to 61; $49.00/ ages 62 and older; $32.00/children 6 to 16; and, free/ages 5 and under with paying adult; excursion fare includes Park entrance. Elvis Festival at Fernwood Hotel & Resort

The Pocono Mountains Elvis Festival returns to Fernwood Hotel and Resort from Friday, October 21 to Sunday, October 23. The Festival features a 3-day, by-invitation Elvis Contest, Saturday night show From Burbank to Vegas starring Shawn Klush with backup vocalists Sweet Inspirations, an Elvis collectibles sale, a Sunday Gospel Competition, a Spooktacular Saturday after-hours party, and the Change of Habit Tribute Band. Grey Towers, ancestral of home of conservationist and 2-term Governor Gifford Pinchot, is administered by the USDA Forest Service, the agency founded in 1905 by Pinchot and President Theodore Roosevelt. A COLORFUL Time to be in the Poconos! Autumn is a beautiful time in the Pocono Mountains of Northeast Pennsylvania! The landscape blazes with color as leaf bearing trees prepare for winter, creating one of Mother Nature’s richest displays. The lush palette of scarlet, gold, and orange is the perfect backdrop for relaxing solitude, a romantic picnic, and happy family photos. Depending on the severity of the previous winter, the amount of rainfall, and other factors, signs of color tint the mountains in September. This intensifies until hues become brightest in October, then disappear in the chill November air. The Pocono Mountains span 2,400+ square miles, with 3 distinct zones in which colors peak at varying times. In northern Wayne County and Pike County, the trees reach their zenith Anne Martino between October 1st and 14th. In the central zone of Monroe County www.annemartinofotos.com and lower Pike County, the most colorful time is mid-October. In Carbon County and the southern zone, catch the best display between October 19th and 31st. The flamboyant foliage of the Pocono Mountains is due to expansive mountain views, climate, and variety of tree species. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is a meeting ground for trees of the southern and northern states of the east, with boundaries of species overlapping in the Poconos.
