Halloween Dramatic Readings at Grey Towers

Visit the Grey Towers National Historic Site on Saturday, October 27 for a chilling night of 19th century entertainment. The Grey Towers Heritage Association and the US Forest Service at Grey Towers present A Night with Poe: a series of Halloween dramatic readings by the American Readers Theatre Company. The eerie performances begin at 6 p.m. in the Great Hall at Grey Towers and include adaptations of four works by Edgar Allan Poe. Dramatic readings were a common form of entertainment for 19th century families. The Pinchot family, original residents of Grey Towers, included selected works by Poe in their personal library collection. Tickets for the event cost $20 per guest. A second performance may be added at 8 p.m. if the 6 p.m. show is filled. Interested parties may purchase tickets at Grey Towers or online at www.greytowers.org. Additional information can be obtained by calling (570) 296-9625. Grey Towers will also host a Cemetery Walk on Sunday, October 28 at 1:30 p.m. Laurel Hill Cemetery, Milford’s original town graveyard, lies on the grounds of Grey Towers. Great Pocono Pumpkin Festival RETURNS !

The Great Pocono Pumpkin Festival is back with exciting fall fun for the whole family! The “Largest Pumpkin Festival in the Poconos” returns to Country Junction on weekends through October 28. Bring the kids and play all day! Pay just $8 for unlimited carnival rides on the Midway or hours of entertainment in the Ghost Town! Enjoy hayrides, a corn maze, costumed characters and treasure digs. Stop by the “real” pirate ship and get a temporary tattoo! Visit the Enchanted Woods and the Magic Garden, and meet the animals in the petting zoo. Don’t miss this year’s newest attraction, the exciting 3-D Explosion! There will be plenty of pumpkins for picking and chuckin’, delicious fair food and refreshments, and costumes and decorations in the barn. Festival hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Parking is free and party packages are available. Shawnee Playhouse Debuts Feature Comedies The historic Shawnee Playhouse, located in beautiful Shawnee on Delaware, has provided entertainment and opportunity to theatre enthusiasts young and old for over a century. Experience the excitement of a day at the theater! The Playhouse will host two family-friendly feature comedies from October 25 through November 4. Laugh Lines is described as an old-fashioned “vaudeville with all the extras.” The lighthearted comedy show features flying pies, obvious ventriloquism, ridiculous characters and amusing music. The Kaleidoscope Players entertain with exaggerated acrobatics and silly dances. The show debuts at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 25 with performances through November 3. Pat VanVarick & Marty Courtney The Playhouse welcomes acclaimed entertainer Robb Taylor to the stage in William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. Taylor takes on the starring role of Don Pedro in the beloved tale of misinformed lovers. The show, presented by Pocono Shakes Theatre Company, debuts on Friday, October 26 at 2 p.m. and continues through November 4.

Halloween Haunted Lantern Tours Looking for a fun, family-friendly way to celebrate the spirit of the season? Grab a flashlight and head to Eckley Miners’ Village for a Halloween Haunted Lantern Tour! Walk the darkened streets of the 19th century village and encounter spooky scenes sure to entertain! Fright facilitators lead multiple nightly tours along a haunted path and stop for surprises along the way. Ten silly, scary skits will have you laughing, screaming and even singing along!
