Week In the Poconos is a great resource for us for “T his things that are happening in the Pocono region. We look

forward to getting each edition to see what is featured in the magazine each time. Our return travelers ask for it when they come in because it has a great calendar of events and is a good guide for restaurants and shops—there are also some really good coupons in there!” Calling TWIP the “Go to piece for us when customers ask about the Poconos;” she goes on to say, “Our Welcome Center is on the way to the Poconos for many of our travelers, even if they are on their way to New York City, they want to know what there is to do on the way and they go right through that region so this is the perfect resource for us to give to them.” - Lura Colinet Welcome Center Supervisor

Shawnee

Playhouse

he Pocono Mountains, known for its natural beauty, country charm and an abundance of outdoor activities, also hosts a thriving performing arts scene. Venues such as Shawnee Playhouse in Shawneeon-Delaware offer an intimate setting surrounding world-class theater with outstanding comedy series in tune with the season. As Halloween arrives, theatrical inspiration thrives with Scary, Scary Night—A Halloween Comedy by E. Michael Lunsford taking center stage Friday, October 28 to Sunday, October 30. Calling the performance “murder most funny,” Becky Haskell shares storyline details on the tale about “twenty somethings” Derek and Prudence as they start Halloween arriving late to a costume shop. Hating anything to do with bodies, coffins, ghosts and all things ghoulish, Derek’s seemingly unfounded hesitance to holiday

haunts turns out to be realistically reasonable as the costume store manager hides a deep dark secret...a dead body he needs to off load! An enjoyable mix of hilarity, touch of romance, bit of crazy and some surprising twists fill this fresh new comedy directed by Loree Flanagan and featuring Dan Eash, Luke Swierczek, Matt Christie, Aubrey Haskell, Marty Courtney and Kari Kenidi. On with the show...8 p.m. Friday, October 28th and Saturday, the 29th with 2 p.m. Sunday, October 30th. Tickets are $18 Adults, $15 Seniors 55 and up with Ages 17 and under $10. Follow This Week in the Poconos LIVE Entertainment segment to the left and keep right in tune with afternoon and evening upcoming performances and how to reach The Shawnee Playhouse!

“I

t opened up a lot of doors,” says Mike Doyle, CEO of Rent Like A Champion describing results of this “sports focused” tech company’s appearance on the popular television show Shark Tank this past October. Started close to 10 years ago, the Chicago based business connects fulltime homeowners with those seeking stays where the play is. From college football to pro golf events, now with the backing of major “Shark” savvy investors Mark Cuban and Chris Sacca, they’re looking at branching out into the

Pocono Mountains home to one of the top NASCAR destinations in the nation— Pocono Raceway. “[It] fell into place,” Doyle details telling how when the show actually re-aired, it caught the attention of a professional that does logistics for an undisclosed NASCAR team. Reporting that keeping team members from mechanics and pit crew to personnel all together at times poses a predicament, the representative asked how RLC could help keep them connected. And so off to the races it was!

With two Raceway events planned next summer, teams hope to have all homes booked by the end of this year. “We’ve put a lot of time crafting documents to help make it an easy process,” he concluded directing attention to the company website RentLikeAChampion.com.

T

his Week in the Poconos magazine—The popular Pocono Pines based publication that’s shown locals and visitors alike, Where to Go, What to Do and What to See for more than 85 years invites you on a journey through the pages of Pocono Mountains progress. Revisiting the images and places reminding many of the faces that made the region what it is today, let’s look back more than 50 years ago at our October 1966 edition.

Here you’ll find Holley Ross Pottery illustrating the same ongoing offering of “Threefold Entertainment” that started back in 1945 guests still cherish today! Demonstrations and pottery making, a large factory showroom and Woodland Glen with Swinging Bridge, Sawdust Trails and Picturesque Lake continue to invite all to this destination “midway between Cresco and Newfoundland.”

“A place to make a memory.” - Charlotte Laing, Holley Ross Pottery October 2015

eather You're W D eciding what to do This Week in the Poconos sometimes hinges upon the weather. With an assortment of ideas on to-do’s, lands us in Stroudsburg for an ideal indoor opportunity the whole family can enjoy—S&S Speedways indoor go-kart facility.

Fueling a passion for racing more than 20 years in the making, new and experienced riders gather at this exciting destination for some fun, laughter and “seat time” recreation. From groups that meet monthly assembling teams for a routine race, to occasions (bearing little need for persuasion) one and all can join in. S&S’s Denise Smith shares what’s accelerating this sport sensation.

“Private parties are very popular,” she says with birthday, bachelor/ bachelorette, holiday, corporate team building and “just for fun” parties grabbing a lot of attention. Whether, the weather dishes a dilemma or a sanity saving release is what you seek, consider an indoor go-kart prescription or two and call me in the morning... to tell us all about your S&S Speedway experience.
