? ? NATION hiber A

dding a twist to our Pocono Did You Know segment, finds us blending ways we look at winter weather preparation...after all we are a hiberNATION. As winter sets in the seasonal chill challenges every man, woman and beast to cease shedding layers, opting for some to be in-home-stayers while others continue to absorb the great outdoors.

With a look first at the former then turning to latter, finds Liberty Homes Custom Builders furnishing facts for assurance we’ll rest easy suggesting nesting will be with these sealings three: 1) Openings in areas including duct chases 2) Around electrical wires 3) Waste and water lines. This will help keep the warm in and cold out with the bonus of tackling those turbulent fuel and electric bills.

On the other hand when considering our neighbors in the wild, The Nature Conservancy’s Bud Cook opens our eyes to the fact that black bears aren’t true hibernators! Explaining, while they become dormant during the colder months; warm late-winter days find them emerging in search of ways of satisfying their need for sustenance.

Reminding always admire nature from afar, both agree to mix things up by bundling up and heading out as a hyperNATION for some exciting Pocono Mountains play!

ART

the gift of W

e all consider ourselves somewhat creative (each in our own way) when it comes to holiday gift giving. Whether finding a personalized sweater when you’re stumped on what to get her, or finding that cleverly phrased plaque for a man-cave he now can’t remember where it’s at; we all strive to stump those we love when asked of pre-present hints. Turning attention toward truly considering what will inspire a spark of your recipient’s own creative juices, turns attention to Pocono Arts Council. As its tradition, the ARTSPACE Gallery, located in the PoconoArts Cultural Center at 18 N. Seventh St., Stroudsburg, will

open its doors as an art gift shop for the Holiday season.

PoconoArts member artists and fine craftsmen, in a variety of mediums, will display their work beginning November 25th and running through January 2, 2017. Gift items created by local artists will be available in all price ranges. Hours for the holiday store are weekdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays. A special artist reception and PoconoArts Annual Meeting is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 1. During that time all PoconoArts members will receive a 10% discount on items purchased at

the store with an invitation for nonmembers to join that evening and take advantage of the discount. The Pocono Arts Council is a local arts service organization serving Monroe, Pike and Wayne counties with the belief “Culture builds community.” Its mission is to build the community artistically and culturally by providing leadership, service and education. Further information can be found online at www.poconoarts.org or calling 570-476-4460.

K

eeping the time theme marching on, we’re drawn to tell more about This Week in the Poconos magazine and its pages in-between, that shared our November neighbors’ scene across the Pocono Mountains decades ago. The time was November 1966 and we remember it like it was yesterday. Likely because our merchants and destinations that appeared here 50 years ago are still here today!

Crescent Lodge lists “candlelight dining” sharing that same warm invitation to enjoy exceptional food and lodging today! A true tradition has the Paradise Valley destination again hosting a Thanksgiving holiday feast that’s, to say the least, an utterly outstanding evening from 1 to 6 p.m.

30 This Week in the Poconos

Turn the pages to The Mountaintop Lodge at Lake Naomi. Recent years find this exquisite bed and breakfast nestled along Route 940 recharged with a Coffee & Pastry Shop that’s been a frequent stop for many seeking a scrumptious sweet or cafe treat.

We’ll continue to share modern methods of delivering these past issues of This Week in the Poconos magazine through our TWIP thru Time series online at ThisWeek.net. This Week in the Poconos
