hristmas customs are brought to life as a quarter century celebration, Old Time Christmas events, return to Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm. These peaceful winter farm tours detail 19th century holiday traditions through reenactments and living displays amidst a quaint bucolic backdrop. Weekends through December 13, costumed guides lead lantern-lit tours through the farm, pausing for stories and scenes of good cheer. Beginning alongside a crackling fire then proceeding to a rustic cabin for scenes from a traditional Victorian Christmas, Old Time Christmas continues evolving into a new family tradition across the region. Moving on, it’s off to the barnyard where an inspirational living nativity scene awaits. Enjoy storytelling in the cabins, music and caroling in the one-room schoolhouse and a special visit from Belschnikel in the original farmhouse; where the traditional Pennsylvania German character will appear to remind children that it’s never too late to be good! A final stop in the Engel Education Building with refreshments available to all, rounds it out with complimentary hot chocolate and cookies to sweeten the spirits. Tours take place every fifteen minutes from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, December 5, 6, 12 and 13. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 3 through 12 with under age 3 admitted free.

ecember 15 marks Barley Creek Brewing Company’s 20 year anniversary with owner Trip Ruvane looking back at the surreal evolution that has made this Tannersville attraction so irresistible. Recalling how the NEPA native longed to leave big city life and return to his grass roots, he knew he had to come in with something unique and so the area’s local micro-brewery was born. Calling it “Something that really hadn’t been done around here,” he takes pride in sharing acclaim with those who have helped, along with those who continue to cultivate Creek credits. “I’ve got to thank the Bob Uguccionis of the world,” he says telling how the, then Pocono Mountain Vacation Bureau Executive Director, reasoned Barley Creek needed to be much more than just a restaurant. Hearing

Cheers

loud and clear, tours introducing guests to the brewing process commenced with great popularity still to date. Now, with over 80 styles of beer, he explains continued success doesn’t come easy turning attention to his loyal fans. Responding religiously to a barrage of customer comments and suggestions crucial to operations, he adds as welcomed constructive input. Turning attention toward thanking those “Who don’t normally get thanked,” he tells how the Pint Size Park came into play serving host to non-profit agencies that benefit

the people of the county. Adding thoughts toward a stellar staff, believed significant to conveying the Creek’s entertaining atmosphere, he reveals new plans for further evolution — a distillery and food truck. “The number one reason I enjoy Barley Creek and all its challenges is that it provides ample opportunities to have fun with family and friends,” he admits. Listing “Two main reasons I don’t sink when I try new things,” he concludes sharing recognition with his “better half” Eileen Ruvane, along with “unstoppable manager” Stephanie Magrosky Rath.

Christmas T

here’s nothing like capturing the warmth and comfort of a Country Christmas, a mix of wondrous winter fun and clever gift ideas that Country Junction has masterfully maintained as an annual attraction. With Santa’s Winterfest returning weekends now through December 20, this Lehighton destination opens its doors to a world of memorable experiences. Welcoming all to make “The most wonderful memories,” the World’s Largest General Store transforms into a polar playground for this popular holiday event. Family-friendly festivities can be found for everyone—and they do mean everyone— with an invite going out to pet owners, as well as the young and young at heart!

30 This Week in the Poconos

Winterfest is open Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with priceless photo opportunities ready to fill scrapbooks. Picture this...capturing those moments when youngsters’ eyes light up as they see Santa, or just as their favorite holiday character enters the room ready to greet all.

Echoing the “What a wonderful world” view, Jan Everett comments on capturing the holiday spirit at Country Junction. Calling it “The BEST place for GREAT FAMILY FUN;” she extends an invitation to join in with song, dance and play alongside elves and a collage of costumed cast members.
