Winter Arrives in the Poconos Winter officially arrives in the Poconos with the Winter Solstice on December 21, 2012. First Day Hikes Looking for a fun, healthy way to begin 2013? Hit the trails in the Poconos! Fun First Day Hikes will be held at Promised Land and Nescopeck State Parks on Tuesday, January 1. Enjoy an easy to moderate hike at Promised Land State Park from 1 to 2:30 p.m. If there is enough snow on the ground, the outing will be a snowshoe trek. Registration is required. Learn a Snow Sport at Shawnee Mountain Thursday, January 3 is “Learn a Snow Sport Day� at Shawnee Mountain! Spend a winter’s day at the beginner-friendly ski resort and enjoy great fun for a good cause! Shawnee Mountain will offer 100 Introductory Learn to Ski packages featuring beginner lift access, rentals and lessons for just $20 each.
