here is no doubt that this year has been one from hell! But we’re coping OK. We have missed our guests and there is every chance they have missed us! They’ve missed the snow, they’ve missed the enjoyment of a snow holiday and they’ve missed the fabulous comfort of our beautiful accommodation providers. We here at the paper then though we might bring you some of the accommodation offers that were available in 1949, courtesy of the 1949 edition of Schuss Magazine – the official journal of the Ski Club of Victoria. Under the heading, SKI-ING FACILITIES DEVELOP the opening paragraph states “Developments which have taken place on Bogong High Plains during summer and autumn months increase the ski-ing facilities in the area to a considerable extent. Indeed there is now opening up what may well be termed a new phase in Victorian ski-ing. These developments are concerned mainly with accommodation and transport.”

Huts in Remote Locations: On Fainter Route – Tawonga Hut. South-Western Area – Young’s Hut. On Mt Bogong Route – Roper’s Hut. North Eastern Area – Kelly’s, Johnston’s, Fitzgerald’s Huts. Enquiries for the latter hut should be made to Mr. B. Fitzgerals, ‘Shannon Vale’ via Omeo. The remainder may be booked at the S.C.V office at nominal rates. I NEED HELP I’m Anxious…

I

Real guts is being smart enough to say “I’ve stuffed up – and I’m here to cop my just desserts!” Real guts is to be able to admit making a mistake- and facing the consequences. They tell me that owning up is where you earn respect. I wish to whoever that I had the guts to own up!

Where do I go for help? Would any of my mates be able to help? In all reality I know it’s wrong to deface property in this town. I know I’m lucky to be living in a great place and I know it looks crappy to see graffiti all over the town – especially graffiti all over artwork that was done by a really talented team – and to see the toilets flower bombed.

I’m hoping, that because of the shit that I have done – a couple of my real good mates will have a chat with me and with the youth officer in town to see how we can fix this crap. And then, if it has to be - I’ll walk in to the local cop shop and tell them it’s me that has stuffed up – and that I’m here to start cleaning up. That way I’ll earn the respect of my mates, my family and the community – and that means a lot. The Youth Worker’s number is: 03 5754 3531. •

’m distressed. I’m not sure what is going on in the world at the moment. I don’t feel there is any guidance at home. I’m not sure who to turn to – but I know I’m frustrated, angry and pissed off! That’s why I do this crap.

One thing I don’t need is for my mates to be thinking I’m a hero for doing this crap. That’s just stupid. If my mates really were my mates, they’d be thinking about ways of helping. They know that defacing property – spraying garbage on walls or flour bombing the toilets – is just dumb, stupid and f@#$!d! They know it’s a sign of weakness – but I don’t want to be seen as weak in their eyes! That’s not tough! But what is tough? Being stupid? Nah, that’s not tough. Doing crazy things! Nah, there’s no guts in that. Real guts is being able to own up when you cock-up!

WORKMATES I took my 8-year-old to the office on Take Your Kid to Work Day. As we were walking around, she starting crying and getting very cranky, so I asked her what was wrong. As my co-workers gathered round, she sobbed, “Daddy, where are all the clowns that you said you worked with?!" very human being is driven by this search for significance. We all want our lives to count for something. All the attention, wealth, or notoriety the world has to offer really doesn’t satisfy the need. With that in mind, let’s look at Romans 12:1-8. This passage talks about a proper evaluation of our strengths which are to be used for God’s glory. If we understand and apply four principles from this section, it will really help us to find eternal significance.

2. Realistically evaluate your gifts. Verse 3. How do you value your gifts? Do you acknowledge your gifts, even if it is only to yourself? We all have gifts. We are not to think too highly or too lowly of ourselves and our gifts; we are to get it just right – but how? Think of yourself with sober judgment in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. 3. Refuse to compare yourself with other people. When God created this physical body, He knows what he is doing when he creates this physical body and He knows what He

1. Remember your priorities. Verse 1: In our times of COVID, stage 4 or 3 restrictions, having work or not? Still recovering from the bushfires? Struggling with a new diagnosis of cancer. Or just living your daily routine as best you can. God could have disowned us but instead He chose us. He says, “Don’t conform any longer to the pattern of this world.” You see, the world around us is obsessed with image. What will people say? What will people think?

is doing when He creates His church. Like members of the body we all have different gifts and different measures of the same gift. We need to evaluate not only where our strengths are but to have a realistic assessment of the degree of our gift. God is evaluating us according to our potential and according to our opportunities.

If all goes well this should be Carols by Candlelight on the Les Peart Oval. Further details as the time approaches.

APR 17-18 Alpine Challenge has been postponed to this weekend in April 2021. Refer: https://www.runningwild. net.au/

4. Remain focused in the area of your strength. Romans 12:6. That is not what it says, is it? It says if your gift is prophesying, that is what you are supposed to do. Prophesy. If your gift is teaching, you stay with teaching. It goes on to say you do it generously. When you have discovered your primary area of giftedness, stay focused in your area of strength and your area of passion and you will be fulfilled. God has given different gifts to the body for the building up of the body. When you use your gift fully for the glory of God, you begin to light little torches along the way to show people through the darkness to the light of Jesus Christ. •
