Respectively, the two examples given in this question are incorrect. They are not privatised; they are under a contract. Privatisation refers to the transfer of ownership property or business, in the two cases provided above, the Alpine Shire governs the staffing through a contract with a company. All contracts have an end date, privatisation doesn’t.
6. The whole shire, including ‘Bright and other areas in the shire,’ should be the focus as a tourist destination, including the non-shire areas of Falls Creek and Mount Hotham. 7.
No. I believe it should be illegal so that councillors represent the residents of the shire and not a political party.

ALPINE SHIRE CANDIDATE RESPONSES 9. For each of the towns in the Alpine Shire I would consult with the: Chamber of Commerce, Senior Citizens Association, Ratepayers Association, Local community Facebook group. 10. False. 11. Bright Metro. 12. Yes. 13. I care deeply about helping others. I believe we need compassionate leadership that considers all perspectives and is focused on long-term sustainability. 14. • Investing in locals – Local residents needs must come first. I will prioritise critical town services to be installed / upgraded such as sewerage, proper pavements, and roads to ensure all residents, no matter where they live have access to quality appropriate services. • Sustainable environmental initiatives – We are facing a climate emergency and a biodiversity emergency. I advocate for initiatives that will see our community work towards achieving net zero carbon emissions each year. My decision-making will consider the environment and be focused on the protection of our precious wildlife and fragile ecosystems. • Economic Recovery and Industrial Diversity. As we emerge from the challenges of 2020, I will focus on a diversification of business and employment throughout our region. I believe that tourism is incredibly important to our
community and would like to see a focus on promotion of the towns with lower visitation to ensure that our entire community can thrive and grow. • ___________________________________

MISSING BOOK A copy of Dr Ruth Lawrence’s Thesis titled ‘The Interaction between the Environment, Land Use and Hydrology of the Bogong High Plains between 1850 and 1985’ was left for this community in the care of Mr Bill Sutton. Bill was happy to lend the book and until now it was always returned – until this last 18 months. This is a valuable piece of the area’s history and we hope this notice may prompt someone’s memory. Please contact your Ed on 0400 350 488. THE PROVERBIAL QUESTION A chicken and an egg were in bed together, involved in a passionate love-making session. After a short duration, the egg rolled over, lit a cigarette and reclined gracefully. The chicken grabbed the covers, turned away from the egg and humphed “Well I guess we’ve answered that question!”

The best outcome for the greatest number should be sought. 5. Privatisation or contracting should be situation dependent. 6. Council needs to be sure that any tourism promotion is what communities of the other towns/areas want. 7. Any political alignment has potential to detract from local issues. 8. Jacinta Arden, Joan Kirner, Jenny O’Connor. 9. It depends on what the consultation is about and where – then input from the relevant groups should be sought. 10. Not my area of expertise.
11. Wandiligong. 12. I don’t ‘believe’ it - I understand the science. 13. “I have skills and experience to get value for money, understand the laws governing Local Government and to shape the present and future with communities.” 14. • Ensure that Council continues to deliver excellent value across the shire providing core services thus activating resources to pursue discretionary projects, working with communities. Monitor finances, risks and outputs against budget and other management targets. • Continue to drive low carbon initiatives within Council and within the Alpine Shire. Collaborate with others doing the same, adapt and adopt ideas that reduce green-house gas emissions and the volume of waste sent to land-fill, as well as reduce costs. There are many options available. Climate change mitigation and adaptation is required as part and parcel of all that we do! • Work towards broadening the economic base across the shire and year, some tourism opportunities, some agriculture, some business and services, some population and demographic dependant. Incentives, planning and infrastructure are the tools local government has as well as working with partners eg the Department of Agriculture, Alpine Health, housing developers. Balancing use of the tools is determined by deliberation and consultation including with community members, not by election promises. •
