in Swifts Creek, created in response to the breathtaking Falls Creek environment. As guests of the Falls Creek Alpine Resort’s Artist-in-Residence Program, the artists spent a number of weeks over the past two summers roaming the high plains and creating work in oil paints, pastels, photography, printmaking and basketry. They also shared their skills with the local community in a series of drawing and printmaking workshops.

Alpine Summers Exhibition

The unique and precious alpine environment was a constant source of delight and discovery for the artists. Their work explores the presence of the monolithic mountains, sweeping vistas and drop-offs in varying light and weather, detailed studies of the minutiae of the moss beds, the profusion of life in the alpine herb fields, the chain of ponds at Pretty Valley, and the sensuous forms of the ancient snow gums.

A very special exhibition will be on show this Easter at Falls Creek – Alpine Summers, featuring the work of a group of artists from the Great Alpine Gallery

The exhibition will show the work of Deirdre Jack, Penny Carruthers, Anne Richardson, Tiffany Forster, Tracey Johnson, Lynn Lochrie and Ann Bingham.

The date is Saturday 20th April, 2019, 10:45am – 2:30pm. The Meeting Point: Visitor Information Centre, Slalom Street, Falls Creek. Bookings Please to: https://www. eventbrite.com.au/Trails, Tales and Tucker. Further details from 03 5758 1200. •

All of the works will be for sale – this is a great opportunity to take home a memento of this unique part of the word. “Please come and share the delight we discovered wandering around the high plains for weeks on end with our noses in the profusion of herbs, seeking out bling beetles, holding onto camera tripods in the wild wind, setting up canvases in the mist and spending days in the ancient presence of the snow gums, tracing their lines” said Tracey Johnson, one of the artists. The works will be on show at the Falls Creek Board Room, Slalom Plaza, (above Foodworks) Friday 19 April - Monday 22 April, 10am-4pm. Please join the team at 2pm Saturday 20 April for the exhibition opening, refreshments supplied. Further details: Tracey Johnson: 0418 221 078. •

MOTORING TIPS

Ways to Save Money

1. Buy Economical Tyres. It’s tempting to go cheap, but that can prove to be a mistake. Tests show they often increase stopping distance, have a negative effect on handling. They may also hit your fuel economy and need replacing more often. 2. Drive gently when the car is cold. Cars are at their least efficient when they are cold. If you drive hard straight from start-up, you are redoubling the wasted fuel, and also wearing out the engine more quickly in the process. 3. Empty your boot. Don’t carry unnecessary weight around with you. On average, every 50kg will increase your fuel consumption by 2%. A TIME TO REMEMBER ANZAC Day

T

he years flash by; the numbers of actual returned service personnel diminishes – and yet the respect increases. Fortunately conflicts of the scale of WW1 and WW11 have not re-occurred. New returned service personnel are now coming from the ranks of Vietnam Vets and those who have seen service in the Middle East. Numbers are being maintained by other service personnel and all are supported by the very appreciative public. ANZAC Day is the one of the few opportunities in the year where people can come together with a solemn and sincere purpose. It is a day that engenders pride and reinforces the gratefulness carried by the bulk of the nation. It is expected that this year will be no different.
