This year’s I Love Burnsville Week includes so many events, it can’t be contained to a week. It kicked off May 18 and 19 with a communitywide garage sales and closes Saturday, June 9, with a family music and book festival at the Performing Arts Center and a musical “Meltdown” at The GARAGE teen center. The city launched I Love Burnsville Week in 2008 as a showcase of events, amenities and city services in Burnsville. “It’s a celebration of Burnsville, and it’s reconnecting neighborhoods,” Deputy City Manager Tom Hansen said at the time. “It’s promoting community. It’s celebrating youth. And it’s promoting healthy cities. It’s an opportunity for us to concentrate a lot of things into one week, where we can do a lot to accomplish goals the (City Council) has for Burnsville.” Find a full schedule of events inside this special section of Sun Thisweek. The Appliances/Electronics Drop-Off Event during I Love Burnsville Week will be Saturday, June 2, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the City of Burnsville Maintenance Facility, 13713 Frontier Court. People can bring their unwanted appliances and electronics to the Burnsville Maintenance Center for low-cost and environmentally-safe disposal. The city will also have drop-off stations for mattresses/box springs, scrap metal items and bicycles. See below for items that will be accepted. Be prepared to pay at time of drop-off; cash or check only. Monday, June 4 • Intro to Pickle Ball – 10 a.m.-1 p.m., North River Hills Park, all ages. Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. The sport is played on a court with the same dimensions as a doubles badminton court. The net is similar to a tennis net, but is two inches lower. The game is played with a hard paddle and a polymer whiffle ball. Paddles and balls will be provided.

On the Main Stage Eric Litwin (author) – 9-9:45 a.m. The author of “Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes” makes a rare Minnesota appearance. Litwin will read/perform his book and talk about his experiences with Pete the Cat. A book signing follows. Book sales on-site. Okee Dokee Brothers – 10-10:45 a.m. Inspired by their own backyard adventures, the Okee Dokee Brothers perform light-hearted, original music that reminds audiences of their own make-believes and treehouse-pretendings. Concerts are held outdoors at the Civic Center Amphitheater with a rain location at Nicollet Junior High. Nonperishable food item donations can be exchanged for a Pepsi-product soft drink.
