Dakota County Parks hopes for snow fun Winter activities slated in the coming months by Tad Johnson SUN THISWEEK

Winter is the perfect time for getting outside and enjoying snow sports and much more. While last year was one of the slowest in terms of snowfall in recent memory, some meteorologists are predicting more of the white stuff than usual this winter. Dakota County Parks offers several outdoor activities in the winter. The county maintains miles of dualtracked, classic cross-country ski and packed ski skating trails, including at Lebanon Hills Regional Park, which was voted “Best Place to Cross-country Ski” in 2004. Dakota County Parks’ Environmental and Outdoor Education Program periodically offers classic cross-country ski lessons. Classic cross-country ski equipment is available to rent at the Lebanon Hills Visitor Center in Lebanon Hills Regional Park. A Dakota County Cross-country Ski Pass is required for all skiers ages 18 and

older. Lone Rock Trail in UMore Park does not require a ski pass. Daily and season ski passes are available for purchase online and at the Lebanon Hills Visitor Center. Classic cross-country ski touring trails are at Lebanon Hills Regional Park – Visitor Center, Jensen Lake Trailhead, Holland Lake Trailhead, Schulze Lake Trailhead; Spring Lake Park Reserve, Schaar’s Bluff Trailhead; and UMore Park, Lone Rock Trail. Ski skating trails are at Lebanon Hills Regional Park, Ski Skate Trailhead, and Spring Lake Park Reserve, Schaar’s Bluff Trailhead. To find trail conditions, go online at www.co.dakota.mn.us/LeisureRecreation/ CountyParks or call (651) 438-4636.

Snowshoeing Snowshoeing provides the health benefits of walking in the wintertime. Dakota County Parks’ Environmental and Outdoor Education Program periodically offers beginner level courses. Snowshoes are available for rent at the

Lebanon Hills Visitor Center in Lebanon Hills Regional Park. Ungroomed, wooded snowshoe trail locations are at Lebanon Hills Regional Park, Miesville Ravine Park Reserve, and Spring Lake Park Reserve.
