Welcome to Nepal Projects Nepal Projects is a humanitarian initiative established by Menu and brought to reality by NGO Danida, to assist and enlighten the people of Nepal. Through supporting local craftsmanship and nurturing traditional skills, we hope to generate more jobs and opportunities to create a positive impact on the lives of less-advantaged communities.
Recently reported to be one of the lowest developing countries in the world, over half of Nepal’s population live below the poverty line, surviving on as little as USD1.25 a day.
With high levels of unemployment and a natural disaster devastating poor, rural communities, human trafficking poses a major threat to the people of Nepal. Predominantly targeting vulnerable young women and girls for forced labour and sexual exploitation.

Every year, an estimated 12,000 to 15,000 women and girls are trafficked from Nepal into Asia with the majority ending up in Indian brothels and some being sent as far as South Korea and South Africa.
These women and girls endure some of the most unimaginable living and working conditions with daily exposure to beatings, sexual abuse and rape, and often contracting life threatening diseases, such as HIV.

At Menu we believe in making design matter for the greater good. Nepal Projects unifies our Scandinavian design heritage with the rich history of Nepali arts and crafts. To bring this project to life, we collaborated with three amazing producers, all of whom were carefully selected based on a mutual passion and desire to see change in their society, whilst diligently operating with fair trade principles.
Combined with a talented team of Scandinavian designers, we work closely with these artisans to learn and understand their skills, enabling us to design products which reflect and cherish these skills and craftsmanship. By sharing knowledge and educating one another, we can create great design and sustainable prospects in order to rebuild communities and restore economic growth in Nepal.

The outcome is a range of beautiful objects for the home – from the iconic felted woollen teddy to the exquisitely woven, cashmere textiles - everything is made with the utmost passion, craftsmanship and care.
We believe that it is our responsibility to create awareness of the endless possibilities and potential of working with local craftsmen. Through the production of these unique design objects, we hope to showcase the skills and crafts of these artisans and to inspire other companies to make an impact on the lives of others as well.
