THE COFFEE BEAN & TEA LEAF® CELEBRATES SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIP WITH BLUE DOG RESCUE AUSTIN, Texas (December 21, 2009) – The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf’s locally owned franchisee, Lone Star Bean, today announced that its month-long program with Blue Dog Rescue has been a tremendous success. During the month of November, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf raised nearly $1,500 for the local non-profit organization benefiting homeless dogs. The program had two components: Customers helped create awareness with the purchase of a bracelet at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf’s two Austin locations for a minimum donation of $1. All proceeds (excluding production costs) were donated to Blue Dog Rescue to support their foster program. In addition, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf hosted three Blue Dog Rescue informational foster events to provide prospective families with additional information on the animals and the organization. “Blue Dog Rescue greatly appreciates the support that we received from The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf’s promotion. Not only did the initiative raise crucial awareness for our programs, but also substantial funds that will make a difference in the lives of our four-legged friends,” said Amy Waggoner, Blue Dog Rescue board member. In addition to its fundraising efforts, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf now sells Blue Dog Rescue’s 2010 Music and Mutts calendar in both of its stores - 221 S. Lamar Blvd. (one block south of Lady Bird Lake), and 3718 N. Lamar Blvd. (on the southwest corner of North Lamar & 38th Street). About Blue Dog Rescue Blue Dog Rescue is a volunteer organization whose purpose is to end the needless killing of homeless dogs. In 2006, Austin killed over 12,000 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens at one area animal shelter alone. Many of them were healthy, well-behaved animals who could have made someone a wonderful pet. They were killed because there wasn't enough room to keep them until homes could be found for them. Most Blue Dogs have come from Central Texas animal shelters. Blue Dog Rescue takes only those animals that are in danger of being euthanized. Blue Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, funded by donations, fundraisers, and adoption fees, that works to find permanent, loving homes for homeless dogs in the Central Texas area.
