SplenDoR - part I
We are thrilled to be able to offer LIVE IN-PERSON BIDDING at our summer auctions! While the new guidelines presented by the CDC and the recent lifting of the mask mandate by Maine’s Governor Mills are encouraging, we’ve decided that even as the rules change at the state level, they’re not ready to change at the Thomaston Place level. For now, masks will still be required for all auction guests and staff regardless of vaccination status. We will continue to provide multiple remote viewing and bidding options to ensure an entertaining auction experience. Indulge your senses in the richness and grandeur of the rarities offered in our July Splendor auction! This three-day feast of fine and decorative arts assembled from estates throughout the Northeast is designed to arouse the enthusiasm of collectors, curators and decorators alike. July Splendor kicks off on Friday with an eclectic mix of vehicles, including a Mitsubishi 3000 GT, 1924 Ford Model T, and a Kubel T-82R Kubelwagen replica; plus a selection of garden equipment and furniture; and an excellent group of Native American artifacts. Friday also includes musical instruments, such as a Steinway Model M grand piano; art glass, such as a Vistosi Murano Pulcini bird; fine ceramics, including Flora Danica porcelain; art photography; folk art furniture pieces, and more. Please note that there is no in person bidding offered on Friday, July 9th, however, it will be streamed live on all bidding platforms. Saturday presents a dazzling array of 17th c. Old Master paintings; plus works by Severin Roesen, Earl Cunningham, William Mason Brown, William Trost Richards, Colin Campbell Cooper, Harrison Bird Brown and more. Featured from a large selection of antique furniture will be a mahogany secretary attributed to John & Thomas Seymour, a green painted country store cabinet, and an English Regency cellarette by Benjamin Banks. There will be a large selection of Chinese items, including a Ming dynasty vase and Tang dynasty terra cotta bull figure, and many decorative items offered as well. Sunday wraps up the sale with outstanding artwork by Willem De Kooning, Paul Cadmus, Eric Sloane, Frederick Judd Waugh, Aiden Lassell Ripley, Childe Hassam, Yozo Hamaguchi, Richard Howard Hunt, Jack Lorimer Gray, and Emile Gruppe; plus an important abstract painting attributed to Cesar Domela. An early carousel figure group will be led by an extremely rare sea monster by E. Joy Morris for the Phila. Toboggan Co. A large selection of fine jewelry and watches will be sold Sunday, including an Art Deco platinum, ruby bead and diamond bracelet, and watches by Rolex and Jules Jurgensen. The decorative arts selection will include estate silver, such as a Georg Jensen sterling candelabrum, and flatware sets and a tureen by Tiffany & Co.; four early 20th c. Tiffany Studios table lamps; Arts & Crafts and Victorian furniture; and selections of Japanese, Russian and Middle Eastern items. — Kaja & the staff
