Base on the phenomenon of rapid urbanization in the coming decades, psychologist predicts that there are more people would be suffered by mental illness such as depression, and in particular schizophrenia. Psychologists claim that the loss of natural living environment is one of reason causing this social problem. Refer to a study conducted in Denmark in 2001 showed that people who grew up in capital have a higher risk suffered by schizophrenia.
The 2 experiments above show that how the man-made environment influences the mental health in human and mouse. First one is conducted in hospital among the patient after heart surgery, it was discovered patient who views more natural environment that they could recover faster and take fewer painkillers than the patient who always view the abstract paint.
Another experiment is conducted in mouse showing that what if there are more sensory stimulations in the artificial environment, the nerve in mouse’s brain could grow faster and more developed.
Zheng Sheng College is the test ground of this thesis. It was registered as a private school in 1998. Most of the teens in this school are sent by court with criminal background to stay in this school for either the vocational training or traditional secondary school education.

For the planning consideration, in order to minimize the demolition, one of the existing blocks, the classroom block is kept, and also because the intention of creating certain controlled environment, 4 linear blocks forms the entire massing. Secondly for the consideration the intake of daylight and viewing propose, the blocking is slight shifted. Response to the site merit mentioned above, a better visual connection with the local community and the mountain behind is important, so there is a stepping approach of the blockings. Thirdly for the reinforcement of the internal community, 2 internal courtyards is formed, student community and the community with neighborhood. Fourthly in order to further breakdown of the massing into human scale for intimacy of space, a village scale of topology is deployed.

Programmatically all the isolated rehabilitation programs face to adjacent beach and mountain such as the outdoor activities rooms and counselling rooms, while the reentry program faces to the local community, such as the different shops and restaurant which is operated by the student as a vocational training platform.
Architecturally the gesture of building form is basically penetrated by different kind of tubes that extracted from the fabric of existing classroom block. Each tubes encourage the people to have particular focus while walking by the openness and light penetration in the tubular journey,, and most importantly which is cooperate with various therapies.

In order to solve of the storage of public housing in urban area, the government proposed a North East New Territories New Development Area to remove the agricultural land in Ma Shi Po village in 2013. In this project, one of the common local materials – corrugated metal sheet is deployed to develop a prototype housing system which could be a new way out from current farming industry. Firstly the prototype is designed in a way that can elevate the farmland in the terrace and roof level to compensate the land used. Therefore its section appears in a trapezium form for the stability consideration. Structurally because of the particularity in the section of corrugated sheet, it could achieve a long span for the use of house (depth: 75mm for span: 6m), and combination with a thin layer concrete (25mm thick) on top which could further enhance its structural and thermal performance. In addition, the assemblage of each corrugated house tends to be erected in a simple way, within a short time, and minimize the manpower. These properties suit for the variety of usage in farm and also provide mobility to the farmer suffered by fast urbanization in Northeast New Territories. Furthermore, in terms of expandability, the corrugated house could be expanded or connect with another unit in an interlocking way horizontally and vertically, and with the additional elevated walkway, group by group community is formed conveniently and autonomously. Ultimately this kind system tends to enhance the promotion of farming industry to the general public to create a self-sustain farm by recycling and reusing the organic waste from city, and generate energy by itself.

For easy transportation, each corrugated sheet will be manufactured into the size of 1250 x 7000 mm. The width could fit into the roller for curving the sheet on site. The overlaping of the sheet is suggested to be 1.5 lap for ensuring the strength of the sheet.

FARM CYCLE
She learnt how to farm when she moved to Ma Shi Po village. She rent 4000 sq. m farmland for her practice to support her families. Their house is a bedroom originally. It was enlarged by adding kitchen and bathroom each time. It took 31 years to complete the house.
POTENTIAL HOUSE PROTOTYPE WITH DIFFERENTTheSIZE ANDofSTOREY current practic farming is mainly rely on the urban dweller outside the village. Food waste is collected in the restaurant and market in Luen Wo Hui. Compost is formed from the food waste and act as organic fertilizers in farm. Fresh Vegetables grown would be sold back to Luen Wo Hui Market.
Cycle of Urban Farming
The Ma Shi Po village is proposed to develop to a automatic recyling system. Uncultivated land is revitalized and rent to urban dweller to plant. Additional structure is built for commerical development. Waste collected in the village could be recyled to form organic fertilizers or generate electricity for public facitlies like street lamp in the village.

In stage 1, starting with the analysis of 2 high rise buildings built between 1960 to 1970 in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong, the performance of the building envelope, the functionality and space arrangement in the buildings and the living habits of occupants are found out for further understanding of the building skin. In addition,to make use of the advantages of the original geometry of these 2 high rise buildings, 3 schematic designs are carried out to investigate the possiblemodular unit of the building skin. One of the designs (Scheme 3, the capsule indicated in the booklet) is chosen to further study its geometric variation such asvarying its height, width and depth to tackle the environmental and programmatic issues. Concept 2: Programme vs. Height Gradient
In stage 2, based on the said skin design with capsules, a tower design is created to house a series of programmes including residential, office and retail areasand a club house with a green roof. Research through reviewing precedent case studies shows a phenomenon that people tend to add temporary structures to fulfil their functional needs such as adding planter and laundry areas. Therefore, a certain amount of space is created by the user from interior to exterior. Yet,this kind of extension of space can also be from exterior to interior to create a system integrating the building skin and furniture from one side of the buildingto another. “Gummy Tube” is the term used to describe this kind of RE]SHAPE + SHIFT space. Secondly, in order to distinguish the 2 major building uses, that is, commercial andresidential uses, a 2 towers approach is proposed and they are connected by the Gummy Tube at some point to create the transitional or public space such as the green roof and club house.

A typical urban site (60m x 35m) surrounded by buildings in Sheung Wan is introduced. In order to maximize the daylight penetration and view, and to increase the accessibility of pedestrian circulation for the retail shop, a three towers approach with atriums is proposed to created a building cluster with the Gummy Tube mentioned above. Furthermore, curved glazing surfaces with mullion are also formed in the atriums to strengthen the visual continuity of the Gummy Tube. Hence, the overall building form is reshaped to form transitional spaces and atriums and each individual unit is shifted horizontally to create a space from exterior to interior and from interior to exterior. Energetic and sparkling effects should be re-expressed in the old station pier for celebration and to attract visitors locally and internationally. Fish market is the idea for it. Fishing movement is the concept to generate the structure of fish market. The form of the structure is subtly formulated by flex of fishing rod and its movements, and passive and active zones with various functions also could be defined by the angle of flex. Through the dynamic structure and related programme in fish market, a rhythmic atmosphere would be refilled in the station pier again.

“Design Institute for Inspiration, Experimentation, Exploration and Creative Minds. To facilitate the Design Process, two Spaces are generated, one being the Design Studio to enhance Conceptual Thinking; and the other being Disciplinary Design Workshops to enhance Development Process. 4 design Studios are positioned perpendicular to each other at fifth and sixth floors facing east and embrace a courtyard planted with bamboos so that every studio opens up onto it. Every design studio could be divided up into 4 small studios for small class discussion. Another level of studios is put on top with displacement to form various pocket spaces and alley spaces for outdoor exhibition and critics. The courtyard enhances visual communication between levels and classes of students, and learning activities could be unfolded into outdoor spaces. This further facilitates the flexibility of studio spaces. With the courtyard design, natural lighting and breeze are drawn into the studios and enhanced cross ventilation. Sun light is filtered into the courtyard casting dancing bamboo shadows on timber deck, which invite designer students to wander around in close contact with nature as it is always the most powerful inspiration source.

Living Time Machine is the concept to bring visitor to traverse through time and space to appreciate the beauty of the modernism, H-Blocks, Mei Ho House and its life in the past. The Journey starts at the bridge over a pool of water, there lays a sculpture court in between the H-Block building and New Intervention. To the best memory of Mei Ho House, the H-Block building is adapted as a Youth Hostel on upper floors. Walls are replaced with translucent material so that it gives a pure form under the sun and its glory glows at night. The middle block now serves for vertical transportation, the glass curtain façade allow one to see through the lift lobby which is a reminiscent of the communal spaces in the past. The lower two floors facing the sculpture court is now open up and cater for HK Traditional Snacks Workshop. The Sculpture Court in the middle is landscaped to capture activities in the past: woman washing clothes along the river, children playing around, old men reading newspapers etc. “Modern” Strategies, Raised Floor, Roof Garden, Sculptures Ramps and Staircase are exploited in the new wing so that the general public could learn more about the Modern as wall as Mei Ho House. A Tea House at lower connects with the landscape sculpture court. On Upper floor, there are Galleries, Community Shop and Educational Workshop where the local residents can enjoy their lives. The link Bridge between New and Old is transparent with slice of past image as to provide a vision of seeing through the present through history.

With reference to the bamboo house by Father Mangunwijaya at Kali Code Riverbank in Indonesia, a modular design research project for institution and accommodation use is proposed for the urban poor in Indonesian. With the mixed-use of bamboo, timber and plaster, and the new construction and jointing system, a simple triangular structure could be erected. In addition, an appropriate use of chemical preservative such as Boric acid could help the structure have higher fire resistance and be effective against borers, termites and fungi.
