Matthew Alexander Matthew Alexander, renowned landscape painter returns to Thompson’s Gallery for his latest, comprehensive, solo show of new paintings. Alexander began by exhibiting in the major galleries of the South of England and strong demand for his style encouraged him to submit to major exhibitions in London where he was warmly received in institutions such as the Royal Academy, The Royal Watercolour Society, The Royal Institute of Oil Painters and The Royal Society of British Painters – to which he was elected as a member in 1985. As a result of his inclusion in these acclaimed institutions, along with his reputable skills as a traditional painter, Alexander’s name grew in notoriety and he developed a name for himself amongst the regular calendar of London exhibitors. It is testament to his drive and ambition that his well-trodden scenes remain as engaging and important today as they were when they were first seen. His dedication to ‘use paint within the confines of the framed picture’, as he says of his approach, has led him to be compared with the masters of traditional landscape painting, such as Edward Seago. This, therefore, places Alexander as one of our country’s finest living landscape painters. Thompson’s Gallery are thrilled to welcome the artist back to the gallery for his latest solo exhibition, we hope that you will be able to join us in celebrating the artist’s latest contributions to the medium.
