Thompson’s London is proud to present a new exhibition of paintings by Robert Kelsey, celebrating the artist’s 20th Anniversary with the gallery. The exhibition features Robert Kelsey's latest paintings, a celebration of his 20th anniversary with the gallery, and documents his artistic endeavours since his last successful show with us. The exhibition includes iconic paintings of London and the River Thames as well as Kelsey’s unbeatable depictions of Scottish landscapes that illustrate his trademark style, following in the footsteps of the Colourists such as Peploe. Kelsey travels and paints widely around the UK and Mediterranean and this body of work is no exception. Be it the serenity and grandeur of Venice or the revered landscapes of Tuscany, Kelsey has made his mark alongside a great tradition of landscape painters. Born in 1949 in Glasgow, Kelsey attended the Glasgow School of Art from 1966-1970 studying painting under David Donaldson, James Robertson and Alexander Goudie, graduating in 1970. He then went on to pursue a career in art education before making the decision to paint full-time in 1995. In 2009 Kelsey was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. In 2010 he received an Honorary Masters Degree from the University of the West of Scotland. In 2012 he was elected President of the Glasgow Art Club. It is a testament to his artistic commitment and enthusiasm that he continues to serve both in his studio and academic disciplines.

Kelsey has been recognised as playing a role on the history of Scottish painting by art historians Paul Harris and Julian Halsby in their anthology of Scottish art ‘Scottish Painters: 1600 to the Present’. We welcome Robert Kelsey back to the gallery for the 20th anniversary of Thompson’s Galleries partnership with this esteemed artist.
